OCR04841 - Dragon Warrior IV "Twisted Systerz"
Audiomancer replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Thank you! I've always liked the older stuff, both on the site, and other musical types. I'll take baroque and classical over romantic and especially contemporary any time. 80s music beats following decades all day;) -
Game Set Mash!! 4 - Mega Man vs. Mega Man Successors
Audiomancer replied to DarkeSword's topic in Competitions
You know what? Why not?:) Either team, doesn't matter. Edit, I think I would like the original Mega Man team. Older stuff is more my style;) -
OCR04902 - Final Fantasy VI "Temporary Tina"
Audiomancer replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I thought I might post in this thread, and share the instruments used:) The flute is myself sampled in direct wave in FL Studio. The strings at the beginning are from BBCSO Discover. The vocal is from Arcane, a free Kontakt library that works in the free player, I think. The Celeste is also from BBCSO Discover. The choir and organ are from the old Musyng soundfont (not the kite version). The harpsichord is from the Kontakt 6 factory library, but if I didn't have Kontakt, the harpsichord in Musyng sounds good also. The low brass is BBCSO Discover once again....bass trombone layered with tenor trombone...the French horns are also from that library. The trumpet is a free instrument that DOES require full Kontakt. I would have made do with the free Berlin Orchestra offering if I didn't have NI. I thought perhaps some folks might appreciate the instrument breakdown. I think I might do the same for my other ReMix later 😁 I certainly wouldn't mind hearing such information from others. Respectfully and Semper Fi, Eric, aka Audiomancer. -
Trance gate on bass lines.
Audiomancer replied to Audiomancer's topic in Music Composition & Production
Sorry for the late reply!:) This is a video example of the bass line having a trance gate on it. If you compare this to my Twisted Systerz ReMix, you can hear the difference. I used the same synth (Harmless, I love EQing and "filtering" by harmonics) with a very similar rhythm throughout both. First link is an original with the trance gate, the YouTube link is my mix, without the gate. https://drive.google.com/file/d/16-1L_oZ4kt-bB9nf0H0Fqq96peQZiXEU/view?usp=drivesdk -
Trance gate on bass lines.
Audiomancer replied to Audiomancer's topic in Music Composition & Production
When I have time, hopefully tomorrow, I'll send an A-B example. It's startling. Fiddling with ADSR settings..and in the case of Harmless in FL Studio, the pluck control..is irritating compared to using the free KHS trance gate. -
So I just stumbled upon this....a happy little accident, as it were;) I was meaning to put a trance gate on a pad in an original that I am working on, and accidentally put it on the bass track instead. Hit play, and I'm thinking wtf..... hey, that sounds great:) adjust the parameters a bit, and it can really clean up a bass line that you're wrestling with. I would have used this trick on my ReMix that got posted if I would have discovered this before:) Hope this helps someone!

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AJssa1PUeCC5Y97RUUI30Qj8KBZooWyc/view?usp=drivesdk This is a Christmas thingy I put together. I did this with Caustic 3 on an old phone. I like the Amiga-like MOD format:) Edit: I believe the song is actually called Gloria, and I refer to this as Angels Dancing on High.

Sonic & Knuckles "Million Dollar Death Trap"
Audiomancer replied to Seth Skoda's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I like the added decorative additions. Your saw type lead that you use, would it be possible to slide in some effect like vibrato, detune, or oscillator sync on the longer notes so they have a bit of movement to them? Break time at work is over, this is all I have now....also thanks for your response to my question:) -

I listened to your latest version at work....I'll comment some when I get home and can listen and type/text more easily:) one thing I noticed and will ask really quickly I....is your bass drum tuned to the bass line? It sounds like the pitch of it changes with the pitch of the bass. That sounds nice. I'll be back later. -
I just made a Christmas tune, a version of Gloria. I'll send it your way when I get a moment:)

Sonic & Knuckles "Million Dollar Death Trap"

What DAW are you using?:) Edit: Also, what synths are you using? -
So, I've been debating as to whether I should make a post about what I have experienced and learned through the process of getting something posted, but I figured if even one person is helped, this perhaps maybe long winded post will be worth it. As always, constructive advice is appreciated and encouraged!:) First, spending money does not mean success. You don't need full Kontakt, Serum, Phase Plant, etc. I believe my finally accepted version only has one paid plugin, Hybrid 3 to be specific. 5 Dollars on sale. There is at least one fully fledged DAW you can have for free. Cake-walk, from Bandlab. In fact, if you have lower computing power, Cake-walk lets you freeze and unfreeze tracks with ease....that meaning, it renders a WAV file of your synth on that track, possibly saving CPU power. I wish FL Studio included that. It doesn't, as far as I have searched. Watch Tutorials. If a judge says something you don't quite understand, YouTube it. I would recommend specific channels, but not sure if allowed;) Don't get discouraged. I started playing at age 12, and got paying gigs with rehearsals and everything within a year. Imagine a young teenager's delight at receiving his first bottle of sparkling wine, Ha! Makes me laugh out loud as I type this:-D I remember getting a bass guitar as an adult for fun, and my wife couldn't believe I could play a few well known riffs within an hour just plunking around. Music production....FAR more difficult for me. A couple specifics below:) More delay with parameters adjusted, less reverb. EVERYTHING gets a high pass filter, adjusted for the instrument. Including reverb. Check tuts. Keytracking on various filter types. Helps a filter move with the instrument being filtered. Sidechaining is not only for bass drum and bass. Snare drums and crashes can eat a lot of headroom, too. You can even have leads cut frequencies from background pads. Check tuts:) Next, a few free plugin recommendations! Surge XT. Intimidating interface, but so many presets available. Vital. Free Serum...kind of.. there's much argument. However, I think this is is the most complex synth that's relatively easy to learn sound design on. Check tutorials. Tal Noisemaker. Relatively simple, but really easy to make interesting sounds easily. The "freeform" oscillator is just great on something this simple. Helm. This one is made by the same guy that made Vital, but the presets are nice if you remove the on board effects and add your own to the processing chain. In your face basses and screaming leads that cut through are easily had here. Also, everything is one one page, no menus or drop-downs. Kilohearts Essentials. This is a suite of about 30 free effect plugins.... they're great. Work well with simple interfaces, and include everything needed to at least get your feet wet. I especially appreciate the trance gate, noise gate, and dual delay. TDR Nova. Almost Fabfilter, for free. A dynamic compressor/EQ BBCSO Orchestra Discover. Low resource using free full orchestra. Just because a Kontakt library is free, doesn't mean it works with the free Kontakt Player. Just because a Kontakt library is paid, doesn't mean it works with the free Player. Make Sure You Check! Free Kontakt Player. Crazy what's available for free for this. Last......... Join the d.mn.d Discord server!!! You get quick great feedback! I hope some of this is helpful, and I hope others respond and add, or perhaps politely disagree with what I have said:) Respectfully and Semper Fi, Eric, aka, Audiomancer.

I submitted a revised version of this. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NyIcHOHeNYyCZuMBXx20SjwjOvI8Is3Q/view?usp=drivesdk I let violin take the lead on B section. The legato articulations sound realistic to me, but I have often been accused of sounding too accurate when I play flute live....like an android, lol. Literally, one time I was in a youth orchestra when young, and I was playing the solo from Carmen, Intermezzo, and the conductor told me to "let your hair grow, you don't sound natural. Sounds good though..ok, let's do this. I'm not going to conduct. You play, the orchestra follows you. Let it flow" Got a similar complaint when I was a musician in the Marine Corps, ha! Rambling over;)
