    YOOOO, WE'RE IN EVAAAAAL
Tracks are 98% done, the art is PHENOMENAL, and everything at this point is on DaMonz, me, and staff. It's been a long road, friends, but WE'RE ALMOST THERE. Thanks for all your hard work everyone =)

Black_Doom reacted to Liontamer in OCRA-0060 - Chronology: A Jazz Tribute to Chrono Trigger
Preview Chronology: http://youtu.be/3wiyaNlffwY Download Chronology: http://chronology.ocremix.org Torrent: http://bt.ocremix.org/torrents/Chronology_-_A_Jazz_Tribute_to_Chrono_Trigger.torrent I first played Chrono Trigger when I was seven years old. It was my introduction to JRPGs, anime, and most importantly, video game music. I can vividly remember watching my brother play this game... or was it a movie? It certainly wasn't Super Mario Bros. or Donkey Kong Country. It had complex writing and intricate characters put into a vast and colourful world accompanied by music you might expect to hear in a film. As I learned to play the game, it consumed me. I would rent the game every weekend for what seemed like years. It didn't matter how many times I had completed it because I could restart and it would seem like a new adventure every time. Needless to say, I have a bit of an addictive personality. Over the years, I would go on to obtain many new obsessions and interests that would come and go. Chrono Trigger, however, did not. I am 25 now and, after nearly two decades of playing the game, I can honestly say that it still remains an important part of my life and that every time I play it, I look at it with the same wide eyes and enthusiasm as when I was seven.
I explored Chrono Trigger through all of its facets whether it was trying to copy Akira Toriyama's art (and learning that I'm not very good at drawing), discussing the more intricate plot features on the forums at Chrono Compendium, actively awaiting the English dub of Radical Dreamers so that I could further my knowledge in the Chronoverse, or attempting to learn Yasunori Mitusda's score on piano. I believe at one point I had just about the entire soundtrack learned and it was this that nudged me in the direction of the video game music community and, eventually, OverClocked ReMix.
Fast-forward another half-decade and I decided to pitch the idea for a jazz-based Chrono Trigger album. It seemed like this was going to be an impossible task to accomplish given the genre restriction and general interest from other arrangers at the time so move ahead another couple years and the OC Jazz Collective was born. Through some fluke, I was able to assemble my own "dream team" of musicians and arrangers on OC ReMix who all shared a passion for jazz and video game music. I felt Chrono Trigger would be an ideal candidate for our first release given the game's quickly approaching 20th anniversary and the fact that Mitsuda's music lends itself so well to jazz and improvisation. The musicians and artists on this album have put in countless hours of practice and recording to produce an album which I think sounds authentic and natural. Jazz is a social music best captured in the moment... and while the production process of this album was anything but "in the moment," I think the album's sound and cohesiveness will speak for itself. It has been an honour getting to know and work with these talented artists from different parts of the world. Each of them brings their own unique sound and nuances to the album and without each and every one of them this album would not have been possible. I hope that our devotion to detail will be apparent in the music and that you will enjoy Chronology: A Jazz Tribute to Chrono Trigger.

I think I'll leave a sort of request here: Sonic CD (both soundtracks) and Sonic 3D Blast (Saturn) still don't have any representation in the album, but both games are quite important part of the series, so if you want to help us for some reason, feel free to grab a track or two! Any other claims will not be accepted.

I cannot guarantee a real update for Septemeber's deadline, as I'll start the recordings with various musicians soon (mah bois @Furilas and @AngelCityOutlaw, plus one/two people for the brass). I'll try to update as soon as there's something to tell/show, but since we have multiple tracks to reocrd/mix/finish, I don't know if a real WIP can happen by that time. Don't worry, I plan to finish this one before the end of the year

We've standardized how we use thread tags here because the way people have been using them aren't actually helpful. You can no longer add your own custom tags to threads. You'll be selecting from a list. Here are the tags and what they mean:
    album
If your project is an album. remixer
If you're looking for remixers. artist
If you're looking for an artist to draw cover or insert art. video editor
If you're looking for a video editor to work on a trailer or promotional video for you. composer
If you're looking for a composer for some kind of non-album project, like a game. vocalist
If you're looking for someone to sing for you. instrumentalist
If you're looking for someone to play an instrument for you. engineer
If you're looking for someone to handle the technical aspects of music production for you, like mixing and mastering. director
If you're looking for someone to manage a project for you. This is a catch-all term for co-directors and assistant directors as well. web designer
If you're looking for someone to build a website for your project. lyricist
If you're looking for something to write lyrics for a song. voice actor
If you're looking for someone to provide spoken word or acting for your project.

I have another, totally different WIP coming up. Lots of stuff to do (other projects in particular), but it's coming. Just needed a good kick in the ass and find some inspiration/time!
EDIT: I'm still going with the same source (Final Boss from Sonic 3) -- I'm not switching, just wanted to be clear ^^

So the deadline has passed, and we received 2 new WIPs, one from Zyko and one from Bowlerhat that we're eager to see the next version of. If you're a remixer working on the album, go check them out in the project forum and give feedback!
We also got a sweet update from Tuberz McGee and DusK will send his WIP on August 6th. If you didn't send in anything yet, consider August 6th your extended deadline
New check-in deadline is September 18th, roughly 6 weeks from now. After that we have a final deadline on October 30th, any tracks not finished by that date will be cut.
Good to see the activity so far people, keep it coming!

Big update everyone... today we hit 100%!!! The project is now officially funded. Huge, huge thanks to OCR for the help.
That said, we have 7 days to go, and to celebrate, today I added a new stretch goal. Help me get to the next level, and the next remix I do as a post-launch bonus track will be...
    "Baba Yetu"
By Christopher Tin, from Civilization IV:
It's been requested a lot over the years actually, but man... a hard one to do justice to. But let's keep this funding momentum going over the next few days, and I'll make it happen.
    Thanks again!!!

I'd be happy to take S3 credits, but it wouldn't be orchestral (which I believe is what @Black_Doom was hoping for). What I'm envisioning would be "uplifting" or "epic" trance, like this: Armin van Buuren - Love You More feat. Racoon or maybe more like this: Conjure One - Extraordinary Way (Antillas Club Remix) My track wouldn't have any vocals though, and my buildups/breakdowns wouldn't be *quite* so long, lol (I wouldn't be going for the full "club"/"DJ" experience here, although I may make a separate "club edit" similar to what was done with Super Cartography Bros). It'd probably have more elements of progressive trance, as well (along the lines of Above & Beyond's most recent "artist" album, We Are All We Need).

So the first check in date is coming up in 8 days, next Sunday, July 31st. We've heard from a few people but no updates from @GaMeBoX, @zykO, @WillRock, @DusK, @wildfire, @Lucasonic, @generaloffensive, @Bowlerhat and @jnWake so far, so I guess this reminder is mostly for them
If you have a WIP, want feedback or need any other kind of help, make sure to let me and Black_Doom know. Thanks and good luck!

@KingTiger Yeah, the orchestral arrangement is quite an obvious idea, and I was really hoping to have it, but uplifting EDM may work pretty well, so if you want to remix this iconic track, and you're sure you want to join the project, I can let you do it.

    Friends,
I have awesome news. At long last... after five years of talking about it... American Pixels is here. The project has just landed on Kickstarter for the final push, this 4th of July in the year of our Lord 2016.

This has been a labor of love, blood, sweat, and tears... and damn the music came out awesome, if I do say so myself. Now I just need that last little nudge to cover the cost of mastering, licensing, CD duplication, etc.
Any and all help from the OCR crew to spread the word would be vastly appreciated; let's make this thing EPIC together!

Black_Doom reacted to Eino Keskitalo in OCR03380 - ilomilo "Iso ilo"
Here's the notes that apparently fell through the cracks (though the write-up is now quite funny):
"This summer our family has been spotting flowers, which is what this song is about. The lyrics consist of a list of Finnish wild flowers. The arrangement was done together with Birgitta Susi, who sings. We picked some tunes we both liked from ilomilo as sources. She thought Esther might like hearing a child's voice in the song, so there's the daughter and me talking a bit about the flowers in the background."
There was a bit in the call-out e-mail about reaching out to artists who weren't exactly obvious choices. I never figured I was one of them! I wouldn't say this was out of my comfort zone but I guess it's different from my previous submissions. Big part of course is that it was co-arranged with Birgitta; we are long-time collaborators. It's great to have the album out!
