  1. Thank you so much for all of your help SnappleMan. This information is extremely useful and informative. I'll be working in my Reaper tonight, so I'll experiment with EQ using what you suggested. I'm beginning to pick up certain things regarding frequency thanks to all of the advice that I've gotten, but I still have a long way to go. So I'll keep on practicing .
  2. , I absolutely love this idea, you could have the MRI image of OCR or something. Can't wait or this to begin .
  3. If you can read music try going to ninsheetmusic to see how the song looks. I remember going here to find this so that I could play it on the piano, it is fun to play:). I still have the sheets actually; but not the piano. http://www.ninsheetm.us/sheets/TheLegendofZelda/TheLegendofZeldaTwilightPrincess/MidnasDesperation.pdf Time Signature, Key/Informal Key, and Chord changes can help you accomplish the feel that you want for a song. Minda's Desperation/Lament actually reminds me of Moonlight by Beethoven. I hope that this helps .
  4. I just checked my in my Notation Software, and it does sound like a Bright Piano. I was remembering when I played piano on my MIDI keyboard a few years back, and that's what I remembered it sounding like. In this case I think it's a mix of what we both think. It could be a reverbed bright piano, or one that was altered in some way. Edit: In my opinion the brightness gives the song a "sitting under the full moon's light and dreaming into the distance" feel . Just as Twilight Princess has that "wolf under the full moon" feel to it. Check out this site for some soundfonts. The General User Soundfont is the one that has the Bright Piano in it. http://musescore.org/en/handbook/soundfont
  5. That sounds like a Bright Piano. I'll check it out in my DAW as soon as I can.
  6. Thanks Chimpazilla and jnWake . I’m going to watch the tutorial, and tweak the harp as well. Glad you like the arrangement as well jnWake. I’ll post an update by Sunday/Monday night. Edit: yikes XD, my ears are getting better at identifying this stuff. I hear the muddiness that you're talking about jnWake.
  7. 1) Have been doing so since childhood. 2) I’ve played in one (Advanced Orchestra) from Middle School through High School. I played the cello. We played No Leaf Clover during my last year in HS, and the solo was super fun. 3) I’ve written scores in Notation Software, and I can read Alto, Bass, and the Treble Clef. Studying score from other composers is something that I need to do more of. This is an example of my work in Notation Software which is written in C flat or a flat minor. This piece took a month to finish, but I spent 2 weeks total working on it. Hypernova – Core Collapse: http://soundcloud.com/cosmic-sounds-1/hypernova-core-collapse (what do you think of it?) 4) Uhh….my budget is the low low price of free. 5) My main issue is that Notation Software doesn’t give as good of a sound as a DAW can make. So, I’m learning the DAW (Reaper) up and down so that I can eventually combine the two, and be able to solely work in a DAW as well. This is why I was wondering if there was anything else that I need to know about Orchestra with my DAW. So this thread is going to be a Huge help, so thanks. Edit: Homework/Sharing (listening to orchestra as well as other genre is something that I love to do, and I love music from all cultures as well as almost all genre.) I’ve had these on my playlist for a while: Superman Returns (Little Secrets and The Power of the Sun): Strings of Time (Strings of Time) by Alex Roe (RoeTaKa): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecqeh4qo4cU
  8. Thanks SnappleMan, I adjusted the EQ to try to balance it, but it came out a bit quiet, so I'll fix that. I updated the link in the first post again. Thanks for your help everybody . I'll keep posting as I move along so that I can learn more.
  9. XD, I am on the same boat as you. Even more so because I'm a new noobie. Although, I'm driven to get this down as best as I can. Tutorials do help, but it's feedback from others that helps me progress. (Zircon and Rozovians tutorial pages helped a lot). As well as the feedback in the Workshop. Most of my pieces (if not all) are orchestral, so is there anything specific that I would need to be aware of in regards to Compression, EQ, and any other technical issues?
  10. I second hosting this compo on OCR.
  11. Listening to this on Napster after The Piano Guys and (Little Secrets & The Power of the Sun) from Superman Returns. ……Epic.
  12. Update (3/22/13): Thanks Chimpazilla , I took your advice and took it one track at a time, and found out some interesting things within my DAW. I’m going to take it in an orchestral direction soon. Again, any advice is welcome. I believe that I put too much EQ in the track; although, I’m not sure. I also updated the link on the first post as well.
  13. Well, this is my first time posting a very early WIP so that I progress further in remixing. I'm new to having a whole lot of people look at a song/WIP that I did. I’ve been composing in Notation Software (MuseScore) for 8 months, and have been using Reaper for 10 days now. The name that fits this mix so far is Dream Bubble. This is a remix of 2 songs: 1. Kirby Returns to Dreamland (The Arena: Lobby): 2. and the 3DS Nintendo Zone Jingle, It can be heard at 00:23-26 in this video 3. Short Motif: Kirby Crystal Shards (File Select) at 00:19. The first source is the same as the Save Hut from Kirby Superstar; but, I want to list this game as the source. (This game has amazing music by the way). When I first heard the jingle I started to alter it, and then my mind automatically meshed the Kirby song with it. Dream Bubble: http://soundcloud.com/cosmic-sounds-1/dream-bubble Update: (7/6/2013)
  14. Hey Palpable. Was the way that I used the Nintendo Zone Jingle in the WIP that I sent you alright? Considering that the dominant source was the Save Hut/Arena Lobby

  15. This game had an amazing soundtrack. Super Monkey Ball Adventure (Kongri-la): . I couldn't believe how Orchestral and great this song sounded. It's one of my favorite songs from the game.
  16. Making originals is a whole lot easier for me. I love the idea of this competition. I like to compose to pictures of landscapes, space, and basically any background picture. So my question is; will you post a picture of the place where the source is from, because that would also help to give a feel of what to compose. It would actually cause us to place ourselves in the same mindset as a composer. I would love to join this when it begins.
  17. Dropping in to mention this game Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete. It hasn't been remixed yet, since the games events take place after Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete. I haven't played it, but the OST sounds amazing. Just dropping a suggestion.
  18. Dude, after I read your post The biggest smile came across my face, and now I am soooo hyped. Now I just need to improve myself so that I'm ready for it. Could you PM me some tips about Reaper? I have a few questions about it. Thanks !
  19. These competitions are great! I've been following this one since it started. Can't wait for the Wily Castle Remix Guantlet. I want to join it when it happens....I'm just not sure if I'll be good at it; but, it's worth a shot . If I'm able to redownload the Reaper Trial after it expires in mid-late May. I hope that I can.
  20. Hey :), I use Reaper (trial), and was wondering how to export files as a .WAV, instead of a .rpp consolidated file. If you could help me with this then that would be great.

Edit: Never mind :), my question was answered.

  21. I could PM you the WIP so you can hear how it's being used. I have Reaper (trial), and I can export files as a .rpp consolidated file. It says that other DAWs can read it, but I'm not fully sure about that. I'll send it to you and see how it goes. Edit: To be more specific, I'm using (The Arena: Lobby) song from Kirby Returns to Dreamland as the dominant source. Which is same song as the (Save Hut) from Kirby Super Star; but, I want to list it's source as being from Kirby Returns to Dreamland. Can I request this?
  22. I was wondering if I am allowed to use the Nintendo Zone Jingle from the 3DS in a remix. It can be heard at 00:23-26 in this video (if it’s okay to post it here). You will have to turn up the volume to hear it . I plan on using it with another video game song and meshing them into one remix. Can I use the jingle, or not? Thanks .
  23. This song makes me smile whenever I hear it. It's song is amazingly groovy . I listened to it once yesterday, and it's still stuck in my head. Those vocals are amazing as well. Looking forward to seeing its completion.
  24. I dropped into this thread to say Hello . I've been going to this site for 3 years now (beginning in 2010), and have gone through every album and have checked out pretty much every song. This site has helped me so much with its music as I went through High School (graduated 2012), and still does today. I love video games and music, and am looking forward to contributing to this site. I plan on remixing these games one day; Blinx: The Time Sweeper, Froggers Journey: The Forgotten Relic, Banjo Kazooie, Cocoto Fishing Master, and several others.....when I get an idea for them. Looking forward to advancing my compositional ability through this site as well. I use Reaper, but only have the trial version. I am especially up for collaborating with someone so that I can get better at making music.
