After a good half-hour or so of what seemed like an endless cycling through the same 5 characters, but what was intended as a re-read of the write-ups I did, I stumbled upon this: This doesn't look much like anything I remember from Super Metroid, and I can't say I like this pic compared to the old one, as it portrays him as more of a thrice-and-front-anused Kremling than the dinosaurian nightmare of a beast he really is. Where is this picture from? The wiki article mentions Super Metroid as the source of the image, but I doubt that's correct anymore.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Serious Monkey Business - History
Dafydd replied to Geoffrey Taucer's topic in Projects
Ok, just to get this straight, these CD's are promotional. What does that mean? You give them away for free at various events that OCReMix attends? To ordinary people like myself (were I to attend) or to people "in the biz"? Both? I feel like I've been missing out on something very fundamental and simple here. I'm in no way trying to question what you're doing, I just don't understand how this works, and everyone else seems to. -
Donkey Kong Country 2: Serious Monkey Business - History

Yeah. What does the $1200 pay for exactly? Will the physical copies be for sale to, I dunno, anyone? How many copies will be made and what will they cost a piece? Who gets the money from the sales - OCR? In that case, I'd rather pay the lower price and have that money donated to OCR than pay the higher price so that others can buy it for the lower price, since I'll get a copy either way. -
Elecman's Light Orchestra (Megaman) + Proto Conserto (Megaman 3)
Dafydd replied to Vipes's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
These two will fail horribly. Dunno about the arrangement, but the samples are terrible. These mixes sound like plain MIDIs. Take a song you like here on this site and compare it with your own. -
Zelda: Fill Up My Empty Hearts (Fairy Fountain)

This is fun! Agree on the porno fairies, especially their laugh... -
Huh? 10char

Thinks weren't very interesting until the guitar came in, and after that, until about half of the song was over, I couldn't hear what this was a remix of. Nice music though.

How about a little progressive math metroid metal? :)
Dafydd replied to Harlekin's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Agree on the shrill, this has no low frequencies at all. Nice work though. -

An official OCR album made by just one guy? ... well, I guess all I can say is -
WIP-Releases: Feedback, Discussion + ?s
Dafydd replied to Liontamer's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I actually find it pretty difficult to finish wips that I know people really like, because it puts pressure on me. But I'm weird like that. It would probably work well for most people. -
Myeah. I kind of agree the color is all stuck in the right corner, which is kind of weird. I also miss the waveform in the logo.

OCR01925 - Knuckles' Chaotix "Door into Chaotix"
Dafydd replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Again!? Well, I do like your new (old?) style over your old (new?) one. Though it feels as if you forgot to turn off the hi-pass filter after the intro there, bass is a little weak. I think. Keep chippin' away! -

Hahaha! I guessed Dave Wise pages ago. This is incredibly awesome. I so regret not being on this project now... In 10 years, all the mixes will be made by people in the biz, and 90% of their mixes won't pass the panel. ^^ -
I'm not familiar with the source, but I thought you deserved at least one reply. This is all very nice, samples are good, but the sequencing is a little rigid, as all the notes are hit exactly on time, making it sound like the orchestra is being played by machines, and the dynamics are pretty flat, as the volume of the same remains about the same all the way through, with a few breaks. The themes seem to fit well together, or at least I can't tell this is a medley (not being familiar with the source), and this is a good thing. There doesn't seem to be a "summit" anywhere in the song, which bothers me a bit. Aside from the sequencing rigidness, however, I think should have a fair chance at getting posted if submitted.

I like the badge idea. They could be roughly 20x20 pixels and be lined up on the same row as the username rather than below it. Speaking of which, the little blob indicating whether you're online or not is horribly out of line with the username. It would be much nicer looking if it was aligned (moved up 10 pixels or so). Another idea would be to have the username color indicate online status instead, but most users would probably find that rather confusing. And, since there's been no change since last time I brought it up, I might as well remind you that the username is 1 pixel too far to the right compared to the rows below it.

I agree on that last part. Thanks.

Does this mean the minimum length required for a song to pass (no matter how good it is) has been increased as well? The shortest mix on the site, afaik, is 0:47, and I doubt anything 2:00 would suffice these days. Is there a hard minimum length?

OverClocked ReMix Design ?'s and Issues
Dafydd replied to Liontamer's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
As an experiment, why don't you make a list of people who complained about the sidebar, and then another one of those who complain about it being gone, and then see if anyone is in both lists? I would like to, once again, propose the smiley window be cleaned up. There's one duplicate, one triplicate and one empty slot. This means another 4 smileys could fit in that same window without changing its size. Besides, the order is messy. -
Tiny messagebox appearing when mouse-overing the donate word? Like when you do it over avatars.

I agree on the clicking on the word part. Although technically I suppose it's actually two words, not one...
-
Still haven't gotten used to it. One thing that bothers me (one that I'm sure I'll get used to) is that on this 1680x1050 monitor, the links on top of the page would look better in the center rather than the left end of the top of the screen. Didn't notice when on my 1280x1024 one, and I guess most people don't.

OverClocked ReMix Design ?'s and Issues
Dafydd replied to Liontamer's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
I agree. It's "sportier", but also less welcoming. But I guess it's just a matter of what you're used to. Another issue I have with it is that on my monitor, if no other, the upper part of the headphones in the logo is barely visible against the slightly brighter gray background. This wasn't an issue with the old colors, and to most people, it probably still isn't, but I still thought I should point it out. -
At first, I read as Now that would have been something. While I agree that this project has spanned over a great deal of OCR's history, I wonder why that has any bearing on whether this should be completed or not. Or do you mean we should make it survive simply because it's been alive for so long (not counting the time it's been dead)? Of course, any reason is good enough - I certainly wouldn't mind seeing this being completed at some point. Oh, and, I don't mean to start an argument here, I'm just curious. By the way, this is my first project too. And I've yet to be in one that's been completed, so that would be one reason for me to want to see it so.

OCR01792 - Mario Kart 64 "Holiday Frappe"
Dafydd replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I'll ask again... how was this made? Are you using some crazy sample packs or is this actually being played live? It sounds incredibly real, all of it. -
Egg shakers ftw. Thanks for giving us an MMX mix, it's been too long. Personally, I think the reverb here is a bit excessive, at least on the lower frequencies, and I'm also a bit bothered by how the melodies here deviate from the original a little (in the sense that some of the notes are "wrong", same issue I had with your other mixes too). Aside from the reverb, though, this all sounds very nice, and the new chords you're combining the melodies with work very well. The crescendo after the break about two thirds through is awesome.
