This is nowhere finished anywhere. I just borrowed my gf's guitar, and obviously can't play worth shit, and the amp is a free vst, but at least I tried The drums are all loops, the whole thing is pretty repetitive and boring, but hey, it's a wip. I thought someone might enjoy it despite all its flaws. Loops indefinitely and seamlessly, should someone want to listen to it 100 times over. SHITTY WIP EDIT Ok, it's not that shitty. EDIT 2: Ok, it's actually quite worth a listen. And if you don't like it, tell me. Maybe it is shitty, in your opinion. But I kinda like it.

I think I have given my MSN account away by mistake.

OCR00155 - Tetris (GB) "McVaffe Quasi Ultimix"
Dafydd replied to m68030's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Ok, so, after talking to Willrock about how McVaffe turned out to be using several remixer names, he found this for me. It's pretty funny how the writeup still says this was made by 2 people (according to Willrock it's the first collab in OCR's history, and it turns out to be made by only one guy. Bummer), while searching for one of them yields no hits in the database. Maybe that's why DJP seems to prefer referring to remixers in writeups using their real names nowadays... -
Damn it, I thought this was going to be the SMS version. I really like that one.

Mega Man 2 - Coiled Copper Wire (Metal Man)
Dafydd replied to Level 99's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Wow, this is really pretty. Don't get to see a lot of this type of music on OCR. I think the melody was played a little hard, and the guitar playing it is too loud. Usually, melodies and high-pitched instruments can do with a little more reverb than the rest and feeling a little more distant, but you've done the opposite, creating a convex soundscape rather than a concave one. Your choice, of course. I really hope this gets posted. Good luck! -
Hating the intro rhodes. You're getting some of the notes wrong in the beginning there, and later one as well I guess it's intentional, but it bothers me. The other instruments and samples are nice. I think this has a fair chance of passing the panel.

OCR01888 - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 "Snowboardin' Sonic"
Dafydd replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
The Gap Company again? Well, I'm a sucker for it too. The drums were a little boring, especially the snare and how it keeps playing at what at least seems like the same velocity. Leads and solos are awesome as usual. -
Someone contacted me on MSN using Willrock's account, giving me a link to a website he said I should check out. I did. I shouldn't have. The url was will.rock.oops-shame-shame.com (DO NOT VISIT IT!). There, I was told to log in using my MSN account. I did so without reading the terms of agreement. Once "logged in" (which I don't think I did, they just stole my login and password, the latter of which I changed immediately after I realized what I had done, but I don't know if that will help), I was taken to a weird website offering to give love life advice using some kind of calculator in exchange for a paid-for subscription involving SMS ... this was where I realized I'd fucked up. These are the terms and conditions, taken directly from the site: Take this as a warning. If anyone, even people you know, contact you on MSN, giving you a link to something that ends in oops-shame-shame.com, stay the fuck out. Now... does anyone think they can actually "temporarily access" my MSN account? Now that I've changed my password, can they log in as me? Or can they log in using a fake account that looks just like mine and fool the MSN network they're logged in as me, sending IM's to people in my contact list?

Whammy bars and guitars getting out of tune
Dafydd replied to Dafydd's topic in Music Composition & Production
So basically, cheap guitars with whammy bars are crap. So why do they make so many cheap guitars with whammy bars??? It's not like whoever knows how to use one properly would buy a cheap guitar. Meh. It's too bad, because I was really considering getting one of those guitars with USB output, and they all have whammy bars and are cheap. Recording guitars via the mic input on your computer always adds so much fuzz and hum to the recording... -
My brother has an electric guitar that neither of us can play to save our lives, but I think it sounds really really bad no matter what I do. It seems impossible to play in tune, even when on the same string. I don't think the frets are out of place, but it seems the harder you push the strings down between two frets, the higher the pitch gets. Sound familiar? The damned thing has a whammy bar, but even when not used, even when unscrewed and unattached to the guitar the whole bridge/saddle section of the guitar moves as you press down the strings between frets. Does this happen on all electric guitars, or only the ones with whammy bars? Can the bridge normally be fixed so it doesn't move, only this is a particularily crappy guitar so it can't be done on this one? I'm considering getting a guitar of my own so I can finally start learning to play, but if it's going to behave like his does, I think it's a lost cause. I never had this happen to me using an acoustic, by the way. I'm assuming it doesn't happen on every electric guitar and that people who play it don't always press down the strings equally hard with each finger, that on their guitars the strings don't get out of tune with each other and themselves because they press too hard, but I feel like I have to ask. Again, never had this happen on an acoustic.

What do you do, remix-wise, besides play the electric bass and the trombone? And what are these questionable tools you using?

OCR01883 - Hitman: Codename 47 "Contract Cleaner"
Dafydd replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I didn't realize there was a way to reinterpret this theme, really. This is wonderful, if a bit airy and distant. Congratulations on your comeback, hope it won't be another 6 years until your next mix -

Donkey Kong Country 2: Serious Monkey Business - History
Dafydd replied to Geoffrey Taucer's topic in Projects
Being too lazy to look through the whole thread since last I posted, "???? ????" couldn't be Dave Wise, could it? -
No improvements since the wip I uploaded that while ago.

Sixto and bLiNd? What is this project coming to? I might as well say it right now - the Ballad of the Windfish is up for grabs, unless someone wants a collab. Otherwise, it'd be cool if someone wanted to build on the arrangement I already have. Now that they're here, it's only a matter of time before more superstars want to join. And my track needs live guitars (acoustic and electric) anyway.

"Rock with electronic" makes no more promise of a rainy-day atmosphere than "electronica" does, but it's certainly possible to give it just that. Whether rock is part of it or not wasn't really the issue. Looking forward to your mix, whatever it is you have in mind.

OCR01859 - Final Fantasy IX "The Rose General"
Dafydd replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Nice! I think some more reverb, especially in the intro, would have been nice, but it's all a matter of taste. Sounds like the mic picks up a little huff, and most of the consonants get garbled like through a phone, but it's ok. I haven't played any of the FF games, so I can't say anything about the source... interesting to hear this type of music here, at any rate. Keep it up. Ticondrius... are you high? You need to listen more to folk music, this piece may be unique to ocr, both in style and quality, but there's lots more like it out in the big world. -
Depends on what platform you're on. As far as I know, the most accurate gbs plugins are for winamp, but if you don't care so much about accuracy, you can also try something like Meridian Advance, which is a stand-alone, simple application, which is unlikely to mess up your computer the way winamp would for someone who doesn't like it. For some games, the soundtrack comes bundled with a gb file (a gameboy rom) that can be opened in any gameboy emulator and which only works as a player for the game soundtrack. That would be another option.

OCR01866 - Super Mario Land "Why So Serious?"
Dafydd replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is great. It's very liberal without ever straying too far from the source, and the gameboy leads really help there. Relaxed and fun - very enjoyable.
