  1. Well, YoshiBlade, I only played MM6 very briefly so I'm not totally familiar with the context of the source, but I do love me some Monty Python. Given your above post, I certainly didn't want you to be sad because no one voiced their opinion ... although your olde English could do with some work. I hope those leeches work out for you. When I first listened to this in October, I'll admit that it didn't make a huge impression on me at the time. Listening again, properly, I'm actually quite fond of this. Your choice of instruments interests me the most; that mandolin is so out of place with the EDM style concept-wise, but fits very well with your choice of synth-tones. I like how it builds, but perhaps a bit longer than I'd like; I know this is EDM, but that main progression does get a bit repetitive (0:00-2:48 before there is any real variation). I don't usually like original source sampling, but the quotes you have chosen are very appropriate to the atmosphere of the track - what I mean is you've chosen lines like 'none shall pass' and 'the Black Knight always triumphs' instead of the more cheesy lines ... at least until the end. I especially like the bit between 3:57 and 4:24; the mix here of synth and mandolin is really quite pretty IMO. Great sound design here. I should point out that the mandolin is a bit overpowered by the synth in the latter part of this solo as the sound builds back up, but this may be by design. Cool track, gonna add this to my mix. I like!
  2. Hello, all! Just a few quick updates: Sorry again for the delay on reviews. Life is still complicated these days but I'm working on it! I have been in touch with @DaMonz and he tells me he'll get to the reviews when he can, but he's even busier than I am these days. He's hoping to get started ASAP, but he figures it may be a while. Prominion has sent me a WIP! He's asked that I not post it yet, as he has lots of stuff he knows he can do better. He'll send me something I can post once he's more confident with what he has. No word yet on when he'll join the forum... I've also been in touch with @Trev regarding his claims and we've worked out an arrangement for his track progress moving forward. My own WIP has, admittedly, received little attention this month. I'll be prioritizing this on Thursday through the weekend, so regardless of what I actually get finished, I'll have something on Tuesday. Just a reminder, it will be the very first rough WIP of an un-posted remixer, so it certainly won't be stellar, but any advice would be appreciated - so long as it's constructive and not just heckling. Just because we haven't reviewed a track doesn't mean it can't be worked on in the meantime! Since I'm taking so long to get the reviews out, if anyone has an update to submit, go ahead and we'll review that. I certainly hope that everyone is continuing to work on their WIPs anyway; we have a goal of having 16 complete WIPs by April 1st, and I now have 5 with the addition of Cornerian Hall of Fame, so 11 more to go! We still have some claims left to be had! Check the front page of the thread for the unclaimed area themes - most boss themes and character themes are also open! Thanks to everyone for being patient with me. I am still available if anyone has any questions, concerns, or just want to chat a bit. Looking forward to more amazing music as the year goes on!
  3. No. I remember from personal experience what happens when you mix small children with expensive electronic devices. It rarely ends well for the device. However, my reason for not is not my cynicism regarding the Switch, rather my belief that we, as a culture, spend way to much time investing in extra screens for ourselves and our families. I've got lots of consoles at home - I don't need another screen, much less one that can be taken anywhere, for my young children. Once they're ready for gaming, I'll start them on the NES and SNES and teach them how games have developed, so they get an appreciation for it and value what they have (my hope and goal, anyway). They can go outside if they're bored. Same with phones - they're going to start with a 'dumb' phone before they can get a smart one.
  4. Wow, I really like the melodies you have down for this remix and the 'smoothness' of the sound created by the instruments you have chosen. Sounds great! Although I don't find the lack of bass particularly un-good, I do hear the melody frequency conflicts that @Cyril the Wolf referred to above and I agree with his recommendations. The other note I would have is that supporting harmony background (the bell-like arpeggio?) gets really repetitive. It would be nice to hear a little of the creativity you used for the melody applied to some variation of this harmony in the later parts of the song. Other than that, very pretty mix. Good luck with this!
  5. I'm with @The Damned on this one. Overpriced and gimmicky. I'm sure some of the games are going to be great, but I'm not willing to fork out $600+ CAD just to play the maybe two or three games I have a vague interest in. I'd rather just get a new guitar for that price. I'll get much more use out of that and it already comes with a mobile play option!
  6. There won't be any feedback on SCRAMBLE until we get a new WIP together. I'm hoping to build the new WIP with the 'new' parts this weekend, but we'll have to see. I'm still behind and have quite a few things to do. You have feedback on Cornerian Hall of Fame. I think the only one you don't have feedback on now is the Boss Roll. Oh, and don't take the quiet as inactivity. I'm sure everyone is just working REALLY HARD on their tracks instead of posting, that's all. ---- Yeah, sorry I've been a bit absent lately. Life has been complicated for me recently, but I'm getting my stuff straightened out and should be back on track next week.
  7. Did everyone receive their gifts? I'm hoping mine is still stuck in the aftermath of Christmas package rush...
  8. This is fine, but keep in mind you are going to have to choose one version to build on at some point. Complete WIPs are due in July! ... and thanks, @classic_gamer_76, I'm still keeping your offer in mind.
  9. Claimed! Thanks again, Pichu's Dad - really appreciate all the work you are doing for us! Just so you know: as we have passed the first deadline, I'm only going to require a WIP from you for the next one, but a complete WIP is still required for July. This rule will be the same for all new claims moving forward. Of course, shoot me a PM if you have any questions or concerns. Well, let me know!
  10. No problem. I have removed you from the performers list. ---- Hello and Happy 2017 everyone! I hope everyone is refreshed (or at least done being hung over) and ready to compose with all your new toys for music! Just so everyone knows, I am behind in getting feedback out to everyone so if you haven't received anything from me yet, please be patient - unless of course, you've requested that we hold off on giving you feedback, in which case we'll send you a PM once you are confident enough with the WIP for review. I guess that 3-5/day was a little ambitious. Live and learn! We have three outstanding claims: @The Nikanoru - Titania Prominion - Fortuna @Trev - Bolse I really don't have much excuse to not have something at this point, other than being busy with whatever time I can find trying to review everyone else's tracks. All I can say is that I am subject to my own rules and have a month to submit something or my claim will be open. I am hoping that Prominion and Trev will have something to me soon, as they are under the same rules ... A couple of reminders moving forward: For next check-in, progress must be confirmed (new WIP required). Completed tracks are requested, but not required. I plan to submit this project for OCR approval within the next four months. I have set a goal for the project of 16 complete (not finished) tracks to submit with. I currently have 4 tracks I have labelled complete and 1 labelled finished; if anyone is wondering what I mean by that, a complete track 'is a track with a full framework; one that has a beginning, a middle, and an end that are clearly defined.' This does not mean the structure is set in stone; that would be a finished track, which should only require minor mixing adjustments. 11 more complete tracks needed to complete the goal. I've had to take down Sargasso Space Zone and Fichina, as their tracks have been claimed in other areas. There are still a few tracks I would like to see on the album: Great Fox Theme The Awesome Black Hole (map select music can be included) Meteor Base (SF or SF2) Out of this Dimension (for the truly brave) ...and another reminder that character and boss themes are still available to claim as well. 5 more tracks to be claimed before we reach our goal of 32 claims. The Andross remix is still looking for volunteers, if anyone is bored or having a mental block on their remix. Sequencing/building the framework is our current priority - a few people have said they'd be in like Flynn once we have something in place. I know not much has happened on this yet, but I still want to get everyone in on this, so please, any help you could provide would be appreciated! Here's to a great 2017, everyone - let's make some music!
  11. Well, it's totally up to you if you want to start a remake project for Star Fox SNES. I personally have no problem with this. However, this is a thread for the Star Fox 25th Anniversary Project, so please keep all discussion of the remake project to your thread.
  12. That Lucca shirt is buckets of awesome. Great pick, @Rexy.
  13. My friend chose to go with an Acer 3.0 GHz dual-core laptop, with 8GB RAM and a 2TB 7200RPM HDD from Best Buy - final price, about $750. He is also looking at buying an external audio interface in the somewhat-near future. Thank you everyone who replied. All the advice was much appreciated. Special thanks to @Esperado for the Apple plug. My friend liked this response, even though he eventually ended up with another PC.
  14. Oops - I thought I had done that already. Sorry, Rhino - now updated to Synthbeat verision. Awesome, Ron - thanks for the gift!
  15. To be honest, your reaction made it all worth while. I'm a big fan of VG lore - I have an original Nintendo Power strategy guide at home for a Link to the Past that details things like landscapes, Hylian fashions, and pre-OoT descriptions of the history of Zelda. I couldn't find anything that 'fit' based on your quite specific instructions, but when I saw this, I had the gut feeling that this was the RIGHT THING - and I'm super happy you like it!
  16. I'm glad you liked it, wildfire. Merry Christmas!
  17. Okay, here we go! Thank you to @Siolfor the Jackal, @Starphoenix, and @M_Blacki for sending in WIPs for their tracks. @Ronald Poe, still waiting for that PM - if you need a little extra time, this is fine for this check-in, but we should discuss the details. Prominion has been busy with life lately but tells me he'll have SOMETHING ready soon. @Trev hasn't been in contact with me yet, but he is super-busy on a good day from what I understand - I hope he gets in touch with me soon. And has anyone seen that jerk @The Nikanoru? He won't respond to my PMs... Today I'm going to start setting up PMs to each remixer with feedback, probably at a rate of about 3-5/day. @DS394 and I will make comments on every WIP that we have; because @DaMonz is also very busy these days (I'm sensing a theme here), he may not be able to get to every WIP before New Years, so I'm going to start with folks who have complete or substantial WIPs first then work my way down the list - please be patient! Some folks have expressed concern over reviews on tracks they are not confident with yet; if you do not want your track reviewed at this time, please let me know ASAP so I can take you off the list. You can always contact me if you have any other questions or concerns. Also, just because the directors are reviewing doesn't mean you guys have to stop! I have posted some updates and new WIPs to the spreadsheet, including: 'Cornerian Hall of Fame' - @TheChargingRhino, @classic_gamer_76, @Pichu's Dad - update 'Clipped Wings' - @TheChargingRhino - update Sector Z remix - @Siolfor the Jackal Boss B remix - @Starphoenix I'd like to say here how impressed I am at all the work that has been done so far and how amazed I am at how far we've come in a short time. Thank you to everyone for their hard work this year - let's keep this momentum going!
  18. This was entertaining. Interesting mental image - something between Mario Kart and How High. LOL I get why you liked the soundscape, but I'm with S4L on this. You have such definition and clarity with the rap compared to the rest of the soundscape that the background and beats seem more muffled than they should, IMO. Some clearer kick and snare or at least a bit more boominess with the percussion you have here would really help the soundscape back up the 'power' of the rap. I like your idea of letting the voice shine through - but I don't think a little definition to the background is going to steal the spotlight.
  19. So, I asked a friend of mine to ship this two weeks ago, which they said they would be happy to do - and then I saw that package sitting on their desk this morning. After raising hell and high water, I have learned not to ask anyone else to ship important packages in the winter season. My gift will be air-freighted out tonight. I sure hope my person likes their gift, because I'm spending way more than I expected to get it to them in time for Christmas...
  20. Excellent, I'll wait for your PM. No problem - so is mine. Whenever you're ready, go ahead and send it over.
  21. Sure! At this point, I'm not looking for anything specific, so all contributions are welcome.
  22. I PMed you a full review. I like! ___ Alright, everyone - hard to believe how time has flown, but here we are: check-in time! So, as the first check in, all we require is a current WIP and acknowledgement that everyone is still on board. Now, I have 20 WIPs out of the 27 claims we have for the album; for those of you who have submitted a WIP already, you are in the clear so just post something here and you'll be fine. For the remaining 7 claims with no WIP, we would like to have something from you in the next two weeks - I'm starting the check in now to give you time to do so. Folks I'm missing WIPs from: @The Nikanoru - Titania (what a jerk) Prominion - Fortuna @Starphoenix - Boss B (you've sent me a sample, so I know you have a WIP you can send me!) @M_Blacki - Sector Y @Ronald Poe - Space Armada @Trev - Bolse @Siolfor the Jackal - Sector Z We ARE still early in the project, so I'm not going for the hatchet right away. If you need a bit more time to finish up a WIP, please PM me and we'll see what we can do. That being said, if we do not hear from you, you'll have two weeks from the check in date to get back to me and/or DS394 or you will be cut from the project. @DS394, @DaMonz, and I are going through all the tracks in the next two weeks or so to make sure all the current WIPs have comprehensive reviews from each of us. A couple of remixers are sending me updated WIPs almost daily; we're all pretty busy these days and I don't want to overload the other directors, so please, if you're going to send us an updated version to review, send us one more update before this time next week and we'll review that. No scary stuff, guys. I am very happy with how all this is turning out; we have a great group of remixers here and I'm especially pleased with all the collaborative work going on here. Kudos to @Pichu's Dad and @M_Blacki for their help the last few weeks; @Jorito is also still available for audio support as well, even though he is now directing the Secret of Mana project - just be patient with him, he's busy! Some other stuff: I'm getting my artist guy to start working on a promotional poster and the album cover art this next quarter. I'm going to try to stay in a space-y theme for the cover art, staying with the Lylat motif of the album itself; however, I've also asked @Etzaen to do some art for the 4 main characters, as we need some representation of the pilots as well as the ships. If anyone wants to submit other art, let me know and we'll see what we can do. I plan to submit this project for OCR approval within the next four months. I have set a goal for the project of 16 complete (not finished) tracks to submit with. I currently have 4 tracks I have labelled complete; if anyone is wondering what I mean by that, a complete track 'is a track with a full framework; one that has a beginning, a middle, and an end that are clearly defined.' This does not mean the structure is set in stone; that would be a finished track, which should only require minor mixing adjustments. There is another goal to get the project to 32 claims. We need 5 more claims to reach this goal; let us know if you want in or know someone who does! And with that.. ALL SHIPS CHECK IN!
  23. Thanks for the reply, ACO. I have passed this info along. I actually did both before I posted this.
  24. Hello, OCR! I have a friend outside of OCR who recently fried his soundcard. After much raging about the cost of a new soundcard, he has now decided to buy a new laptop to avoid replacing the soundcard. Go figure. Anyway, he asked me what he should look at and I figured this would be a good question to ask here (forgive me if this question has been asked thousands of times before). What would OCR recommend for a laptop in the 1K-2K range that would suit a composer and production artist who mostly plays, records, and mixes rock and sometimes metal? He currently uses a dual-core PC with the stock soundcard (which is now fried). He said he was looking at switching to a MacBook Pro, but can't afford the $3500 asking price. He told me he's looking at brands or packages - he is completely unwilling to build. Once again, go figure.
