TheChargingRhino reacted to The Nikanoru in Lylat System CLEAR: A Star Fox Tribute Album
There won't be any feedback on SCRAMBLE until we get a new WIP together. I'm hoping to build the new WIP with the 'new' parts this weekend, but we'll have to see. I'm still behind and have quite a few things to do.
You have feedback on Cornerian Hall of Fame. I think the only one you don't have feedback on now is the Boss Roll.
Oh, and don't take the quiet as inactivity. I'm sure everyone is just working REALLY HARD on their tracks instead of posting, that's all.
----
Yeah, sorry I've been a bit absent lately. Life has been complicated for me recently, but I'm getting my stuff straightened out and should be back on track next week.

TheChargingRhino reacted to The Damned in Nintendo Switch
Not having been up on consoles the last... twenty years, is a region-free console a big deal? Is that new, or is that common now?
2.5 to 6 hours of battery on the tablet... more like 2 to 4, at best.
$299 US... so $350 CAN? $375 CAN? Oh god, they're going to charge us $400 CAN, aren't they?
Looks like I'll be getting the Wii U version of BotW.
EDIT: That new Mario game is set in New York. You know what this means? After 30 years, they're finally giving us a tie-in game for the Mario Bros movie!!

TheChargingRhino reacted to DarkeSword in How to use Prefixes
When posting a new topic, ou can choose one of the four preset prefixes. The default prefix is 1. work-in-progress. As you get feedback and develop your track, change the prefix accordingly to indicate the status of your track. This helps the evaluation team keep tabs on your track. Here are the prefixes and what they mean:
work-in-progress
Your track is a work-in-progress and you need feedback from the community. This is the default prefix. ready for review
Change your prefix to this when you want a workshop evaluator to give your track an official look. Once they provide you with feedback, they'll change your track back to 1. work-in-progress. completed
Change your prefix to this when you feel you're done with your track. submitted
Change your prefix to this once you have submitted your completed track to the Judges Panel. As you can see we've numbered the prefixes to help you iterate through the process, but if you want to jump ahead and just post a completed track that doesn't require review, you can do that with the appropriate prefix as well.

Had a great time at MAG, and it was great hanging out with all the OCR peeps! I'm also glad I went to the panel, there are a couple new projects I still need to go download. Good stuff.

OC ReMix presents Heart of a Gamer: A Tribute to Satoru Iwata
December 6, 2015
Contact: press@ocremix.org
FAIRFAX, VA..."On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer." -- Satoru Iwata (1959-2015)
On what would have been Satoru Iwata's 56th birthday, OverClocked ReMix pays tribute to the late game developer and president & CEO of Nintendo with the community's latest album, Heart of a Gamer: A Tribute to Satoru Iwata. Iwata was a gigantic figure in the world of video games whose loss was felt throughout the gaming community and around the world on July 11th of this year.
Heart of a Gamer features six tracks from eight artists arranging themes from eight soundtracks of games developed or contributed to by Satoru Iwata, a man whose life work was making the world a better & brighter place through video games. Organized by director Gerry "The Damned" Wheatley, and featuring artwork of Iwata surrounded by characters of games he worked on by Davy "Odai" Owen, Heart of a Gamer is available for free download at http://ocremix.org/info/Heart_of_a_Gamer:_A_Tribute_to_Satoru_Iwata.
This album was produced to help promote video game music, was made by fans, for fans, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo or HAL Laboratory; all original compositions, characters, and logos are copyright their respective owners.
The album's selection of games from Satoru Iwata's career includes: Super Smash Bros. Melee & Brawl Kirby's Adventure Rollerball Nintendo Land & Balloon Fight EarthBound; and Pokémon Gold Version. "Whether in front of a computer monitor or a boardroom of investors, Iwata's love of games were what came first," observed director Gerry Wheatley. "His devotion to his company was never truer when, in financial trouble, he took a pay cut to make sure his employees were safe. When his colleagues were in need, he lent his time and skill to save their games. He wasn't just another name in the credits. He was truly part of the team."
Heart of a Gamer marks Gerry Wheatley's second directorial effort for OC ReMix. His first directed album in 2011, Pokémon: The Missingno Tracks, also honored a game franchise critically influenced and assisted by Satoru Iwata.

TheChargingRhino reacted to Arrow in MAGFest 2017 (see you next mission)
The MAGFest schedule has gone live in the Guidebook app for iOS. The app is obviously on Android too, but some of my old buddies in the Metroid Metal community mentioned last night that something is buggy about the schedule on that side, as an advance warning. I imagine it will be fixed pretty soon.
OP post has been updated with the OCR panel names and times. If anything else happens event-wise (like, say, a last minute OCU Spring Break dance party in someone's room or something), I'll continue to edit the post as necessary.
Nine days to go! GET HYPE

OCR workouts will be when we can fit them in, but ill for sure make announcements in the discord meetups channel. Be prepared for Nandos-fueled GAINZ.
THere isn't an official OCU concert, but I just reached out to MAG staff to see if I can sneak in a Jamspace DJ set, i'll keep things updated here. It'd be cool to have our own secret show.
Panels TBD, but it will involve me bench pressing @Nabeel Ansari, so please look forward to it!

Magfest was a pretty unreal experience for me. Thank you to everyone who came to see me perform! I'm only bummed that I didn't get to spend more time hanging with friends--especially the OCR crowd (I had to miss BOTH PANELS! UGH). I guess there's always next year! (or maglabs/classic or anything else)

TheChargingRhino reacted to DarkeSword in Notable Game Anniversaries Calendar Project
I'm looking for some help in populating a Google Calendar with notable video game anniversaries for games that have remixes here on OC ReMix. This calendar is meant to be used in conjunction with zapier (an automation tool) that will help us automatically promote game pages on OCR's Discord server and possibly our social media accounts.
Right now OCR doesn't track release dates of games in its database, so I can't ask djpretzel for that data. I need folks to help find release date data and create events on the Calendar in a specific format. I'd prefer to use release dates from the country of origin, so Japanese release dates for games from Japan, North American release dates for many western games, etc.
To participate, you need a Google account (i.e. gmail address). The event should be created with a start time of 12:00PM on the day of the anniversary. Multiple events on the same day should be spaced by 15 minutes. The title of the event should be Nth Anniversary of Game. The description of the event should be a link to the game's page on OC ReMix. Here's a sample event. I think we can focus on 5x Year Anniversaries for now.
Let me know if you'd like to help out and I'll give you access.

TheChargingRhino reacted to Eino Keskitalo in OverClocked Podcast - 27 - LongBoxofChocolate
The LBoC was very good, fun but also very fascinating to hear how the guys work their songs.. LOVED the multitracked saxes at the intro of the song. I thoroughly appreciated In Between the Lines as well, thinking it's very generous of Laura to do this kind of thing and I definitely want to hear more.

Interesting list of Pokemon music. Haven't listened yet, but I'm very curious to hear this episode's Solo Track segment!
I think I'm going to re-use my Dew Point suggestion "from the brilliant soundtrack of the brilliant Risk of Rain" for the sci-fi playlist.. even though the little sci-fi aspect it has in the setting is just a bit of dressing (as far as I've been able to tell while playing!) The playlist should be pretty interesting, it is a wide theme, I have an impression it'll have a certain coherence but it'll be fun to see how it comes together.

It's so nice to see the Oblivion soundtrack acknowledged every once in awhile in the face of Skyrim's popularity.

I loved this episode! Grant was super honest, and sounds like an overall cool dude. Before I got much into music (or VGM), I was a metalhead just like him, and now, I definitely have the eclectic tastes he speaks of.

TheChargingRhino reacted to OverClocked PodCast in OverClocked Podcast - 30 - Grant Kirkhope
Yeah, he was kind of a doofus, but luckily doesn't read these forums so no harm done.
EDIT: But at least he's not Bryan
Thanks Eino! Before the interview started, I asked Grant if he wanted to focus on a single game or series, maybe Viva Pinata or Yooka-Laylee. In his agreeable fashion, he said to ask him anything, he'll talk about anything, and just see what happens. First interview on the OCPC I've done without notes. It was fun.
And yeah, Mr. Kirkhope gets pigeonholed with the goofball tunes, and that's all true-- but don't stop there. His biggest influence is John Williams and you can tell.

TheChargingRhino reacted to Michael Frank in Soundfont issues/questions
Regarding the Killer Instinct guitar: there is a Kontakt instrument of it out there, however it sounds really bad as it's missing a lot of the articulations/timbre changes (eg. with changing velocities, modulating etc.) that come with the TS-10's synth engine. Doesn't even sound remotely like the original - with SNES stuff it's different because the instruments are all built with (usually) one single sample.
With the DKC guitar, it sounds that 'harsh' by default in general. It will help when actually writing to add slight volume automation fades with each sustained note, use of pitch bends and a delay to emulate how it originally sounds in the DKC soundtrack... hope that helps.
It does look like Gangplank Galleon is in the works by BlueTronic; the FLP for that is in the Dropbox folder if you want to take a look.
