Vote in. See ya'll in a few days.

Done and done. Hear ya'll in a couple days.

That works, thankee. Now I can ruin it.

Is anyone else having trouble getting the midi? Clicking on it just makes my screen flash, and doing Save Link As claims that it can't be downloaded securely.

Good grief, another win? At this rate, my ego will bloat into an unsightly shape. XD Really fun round ya'll, I feel a bit bad that I won a round about a more upbeat piece by slowing it down. I'll make it up to ya once I figure out what to choose next. Edit: and I always appreciate the feedback.

Votes in. This was a real fun song to work with and listen to. Edit: seems I ran into that weird gimmick again: claims I already voted. Heh. I'll send VideoGamer my placements.

3. completed Secret of Evermore Mini Boss remix
Souperion replied to HoboKa's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Mini boss, you say? This thing sounds more suited for the final confrontation of a repeating boss. I love the frighteningly atmospheric intro, and the almost primeval vocals. And those drums are killing. I think that things get a little muddy with the introduction of that new synth(?) at 2:35, I wonder if it may be a reverb issue. The effect it has on the soundscape is really nice, though, I bet it would be amazing if it was a bit clearer. The addition of brass in the last leg of the piece was a neat touch. Very nice job here. -
Me too.

Speaking of Thasauce... did ya'll know they do a one hour composition thingy each thursday? Like, they provide a picture prompt for the compo, then give you one hour 20 min to make a song and upload it. I've found it a fun composing exercise. Checkit here if it strikes your fancy https://compo.thasauce.net/compos/view/OHC.

@HoboKa Well, it's sure be fun for me at least. I've enjoyed hanging around these compos (MnP and PRC) the past few months than I ever did lurking about in the remix workshop, giving out 2-bit advice. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy letting folks know I like their stuff, but always felt impersonal, distant. The little community here, I feel like I have a place. As that guy who doesn't seem to know how to compose without at least 3 tracks of stringed instruments XD. Hang in there, boss. At the end of the day, we're all folks staring at our computers, making music and sharing it with folks who could be robots for all we know (my serial number is #64813490, in case you're wondering.) Take a breather, do something nice for yourself.

Grats TVQ, good work here all. -
If a pass-along can toss in his two cents: A lot of good things have already been said on one's style. I reckon one can have their style endure across a wide range of musical genres. Looking back on the stuff I've worked over the past couple years, I've dabbled in a lot of approaches. Pure orchestral, orchestral with synth accompaniment, metal/rockin' stuff, attempts at symphonic metal, electronic music, even poked at some stuff with eastern instruments. If you find yourself in a rut with instrumentation, I'd recommend trying new ways to use what you got, or branch out (I'm an Eastwest user, the stuff is expensive if you don't catch it on sale, but I'd recommend the Symphonic Orchestra, Ministry of Rock 2, Silk, and Ra.) As my bud pointed out, I find myself gravitating towards sounds I like: violins, violas, cellos, double basses, etc. Heck, I made a song for the OHC using just those, a piano, an erhu, and a little pad. Because it's stuff I enjoy listening to and (sorta) know how to use. Sometimes it's nice to fall back to familiar territory. My general principle is this: make music you would wanna listen to. Enjoy your musical roots! But sometimes it's good to try things we aren't familiar with. For over two years, I've done co-op projects with Wassup Thunder. He enjoys doing the percussion, so I often let him have at it. But a while back, we wanted to both try our own takes on Ridley's theme (Super Metroid). I took the opportunity to force myself to take a percussion-heavy approach. It was rough, and I wasn't confident, but I think that every piece you work on teaches you something. Give it a shot! Start a project to focus on some beats, study the kind of music you like with beats, and make-a-some beats! You'll love it! Probably.

@Trism Oh, I was quite thrilled when the album was released. I guess I forgot that this remix made it onto the website, otherwise I woulda picked another source :S -
Great mixes, all! I really enjoyed the melancholy of Kat's, nicely mixed with rock elements. And the abrupt end near the actual end nearly gave me a heart attack. I loved Thunder's emotional piece, but we've already gone over how it was less MnP. Still, great song that nearly scared me witless. TVQ's was re-e-e-e-ally slick and sweet, I feel like you got the vocals better here. Took a while for me to pick out A Wish in it, but the innovation was lovely. I'm sure someone else mentioned how the guitars or something near them was causing some fuzz and feedback, shouldn't be too hard to fix. And I appreciated the story APZX's told. A lot of the instrumentation and execution reminds me of the OST of Axiom Verge. Delicate, deep, and just a bit chippy. And HoboKa's really nailed the atmosphere, airy openness, and cold sweetness of the original. Almost somnolescent, really. And as always, thanks for the feedback. One of these days, I will get down actually including low-end instrumentation in these things of mine :S
-
Aw, thanks. I'd say the same for yours! I layered a duduk and oboe for the woodwinds in mine, and used a Secret of Mana soundfont I got a while ago for those familiar 16 bit elements.
-
Ah, mittens. I tried a few times, the thing kept giving me the same weird error page. So I DMed my votes to HoboKa. Later, I'll recreate my comments/feedback/praise on y'all's work. Still a great round with great stuff, smoothies all around!
-
Good round, folks. I THINK I got my vote in. It gave me a weird screen when I submitted it, said something about having already voted or something. Dunno if there's a way to check if it went through. Either way, good sounds, good sounds.
