MnP Round 128 - Spooktober Special!
The Vodoú Queen replied to TheVideoGamer's topic in Competitions
I managed as well, FOR ONCE not being dead last or turning it in 3 minutes before it's due! I'm also currently partially deaf in my right ear because of a pretty bad inner canal infection, so...mixing / mastering was fucking glorious to deal with the last several days, and I could barely focus for shit to compose it. xD Like Dr. Frankenstein, I had 0 clue how to cobble the stitched-together beast, but it's there. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Pretty chuffed with the result, anyways... ♥ Hope people enjoy it. -
MnP Round 128 - Spooktober Special!
The Vodoú Queen replied to TheVideoGamer's topic in Competitions
Welp, in realizing / considering the time restraints I've got now, I'll (unfortunately) have to backstep and go back to using BandLab for this one. I'll make sure it's an absolute banger, however. Sorry for being so quiet over this venture. I had the past weeks be extremely busy. Between trying to fully memorize lines and lyrics for a show I'm in in December, and having to non-stop make song after song after song for Newgrounds' NGUAC and NGADM 2021--I had 0 time to learn Reaper or download plugins (was partially my fault as well, due to some forms of burn out.) Will be very busy this month too, but I do want to try and put something into this seeing as I was graciously allowed to pick a source with everyone else, etc. I do have a question tho, seeing how some of the entries have been sounding thus far: how MnP are we being on this round? @TheVideoGamer - you said the rules were going to be lax for the most part, (cause of the sources and stuff). I'm just making sure before I go absolutely ape-shit with Concrete Cave, lol. -
MnP Round 128 - Spooktober Special!
The Vodoú Queen replied to TheVideoGamer's topic in Competitions
Dewprism is what ToF is called in Japan. It's a very, very obscure Squaresoft game from back when PSOne was first released... I regret to this day never buying the game when I had the chance to... It was super fun and had a great storyline. Check out the song from it called "Through the Forest"... It brings back so much nostalgia for me. I'll probably do a remix of it someday TBH. Some more really obscure games I own are Eternal Eyes (PS1), Mischief Makers (N64), Quest 64, 8 Eyes (NES), Grandia (PS1), Lunar (PS1), Legend of Dragoon (PS1), Battle Hunter (PS1) and Kartia (PS1)...and they all have great music to them, if it inspires ppl to check them out. -

I look forward to the spooky song goodness too. I better make this one count too, cause it's probably going to be my turn-in for NGs Spooktober Competition if they accept game remixes... Going to be real hard tho; I barely fiddled with Reaper since downloading it... -

Also Revelations: The Demon Slayer, which funny enough is a prequel to the Shin Megami Tensei series...Lol. -

Front Mission is a rare choice. Threads of Fate / Dewprism and Sword / Legend of Mana are quite rare as well. So is Illusion of Gaia, the red-headed true sequel step-child to SoulBlazer no one seems to talk about... -
1. recruiting An OverClocked Christmas v.XV
The Vodoú Queen replied to The Coop's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
Kinda don't want to steal Hobo's thunder, but I've also got someone very close who has fond childhood memories of Snowboard Kids 1 and 2, and I really like the games too, so was considering doing "Ice Land" from 2. In a real Xmas jazzy / synth form... It was either that or "Snow in Summer" & "In a Snowbound Land" together, so NieR: Gestalt / Replicant + DKC2... ...Which should I do? ^^; -
PRC432 - Back to the Rock Ages (Golden Sun The Lost Age)
The Vodoú Queen replied to Bundeslang's topic in Competitions
Trust me, it's not a forever goodbye, I just feel like I need to strengthen the things that are lacking and are pretty consistently said across the board. Some of the sentiments are critique I've gotten in the NG competitions as well. Can't BS oneself if there's common problems. ♡ I'm just taking time to dedicate to more learning and skill development, (cause for God's sake do I need to be able to hear tone and key differences better.) I'll be back. Matter of fact, I'm still doing Granstream and got something for Tactics Advance in my head. I just know if I'm doing all this musical self e-learning (and learning Reaper,) I won't be able to make the deadlines for the compos. Plus, I want to come at these things with a stronger game, so people can enjoy them even more. That's all I want, is for whatever I put out there to be super enjoyable and not a mess-fest to the ears. XD Doesn't matter win or lose, I just want to get better. -
PRC432 - Back to the Rock Ages (Golden Sun The Lost Age)
The Vodoú Queen replied to Bundeslang's topic in Competitions
Right... I think (sadly) I'm just going to have to be frank and honest with myself and drop out of MnP & PRC for a bit... I'll continue to check in on occasion and maybe still use the sources to make remixes on the side with, but insofar as putting stuff out into the compos themselves--clearly whatever I am doing isn't cutting it, or cohesive enough to be viable for it. And FWIW--it's not really the points or the constant losing that bothers me--it's the fact it's the same issues over and over again--no matter how I try to rectify them currently, with each new song I compose, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better... And some of the critique I get I don't understand what is meant by it, musically wise, or I don't hear what's wrong--so it's doing me no good unless I get a breakdown of what exactly is dissonant, how and why, but that's a level of handholding no one would feasibly have time for, nor would I ask it of them. I don't put out material I don't think sounds good or right...but clearly my ears are shot to hell, lol. Good luck guys. I'll catch ya'll on the flip and either peek in to evaluate on occasion or to listen to the great stuff ya'll generally put out...way more so than my own. o/ **EDIT: (Also, FWIW, I appreciate people like my drumwork and percussion, but sadly most compositions need decent melody and harmony work, and clearly I just need to get better at doing it, and hearing it, period. But I am aware and do appreciate when people say the drums, mixing/mastering or composition framework is strong... I just also know that those alone don't make for a strong song, so I need to go off and work on the other things so it can stop sounding atonal and disproportionate.) -
Final Fantasy VIII: SeeDs of Pandora - History
The Vodoú Queen replied to Darkflamewolf's topic in Projects
Hi, uhm...since I see it's not taken as of yet, I'd like to try my hand with The Extreme, in the CRAZY category, but unsure how viable it is for me to stake the claim. I saw on the original posting that these OCR albums required someone who's already been published on here, and IDK how much considerable skill you're looking for. But I'd love to get my hands on a MIDI of the song and go ham on it, as it's my favourite of the series--but again--what's the skill ceiling or the need to know? Is knowing an instrument to actually be played required or can it all be electronic? Please let me know. I'd love to give it a try... ^_^; -

BTW, @Wassup Thunder, you uploaded the wrong song, it seems. Sounds like a remix of Sonic to me. XD More aptly, Flying Battery Zone from S&K. -

1. recruiting Final Fantasy XIV remix album
The Vodoú Queen replied to Arrow's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
I, too, am a huge fan of XIV. And am still actively playing the game. If this is still ongoing, let me know as well. I know it's the end of Shadowbringers now, but since I can't do any of the open world / town themes from it, I'm willing to do any from ARR forward that aren't yet taken. I'd have to see what's available and if getting a MIDI of the work is possible, but I am up for the challenge. -

MnP 127: The Granstream Saga - Cut Your Way

Hey. Sorry I'm kinda bad at this and don't mean to be a dummy... But what key is the source in? (I can't tell solely by ear, yet...) -
MnP 126: Pokemon Gold/Silver - National Park
The Vodoú Queen replied to TheVideoGamer's topic in Competitions
Granstream Saga is a fantastic source... God, it brings back memories... ♥ It was my first PS1 game I ever bought, and I have found memories of it and Threads of Fate / Dewprism for that reason--being the first two RPGs for that system I played. -
MnP 126: Pokemon Gold/Silver - National Park
The Vodoú Queen replied to TheVideoGamer's topic in Competitions
@APZX Thanks, honestly. I'll be sure to listen to it, and try to understand. Admittedly, about 40% of everything you said sunk in... The rest? I'm unsure and I'll probably have to read up more on it or watch YT vids. I'm not as adept as you or Gamer or the others with composition crafting. And don't even get me started on music theory or spouting off music vocab, besides simple things like...what mezzo-forte is, or a rest is, or a whole note... Ya know, baby's first band class shit. I barely got to grips with hertz, decibels and EQ not long ago, lol... The help goes a long way but a good portion ATM is going r/whoosh over my head. Sadly, a lot of me EQing and modifying music quality and balance is by ear. It's what sounds good to me, which may or may not sound good to the wider public and only way I know otherwise is through poor scores, critique and occasionally, asking someone I know what they think of a song before I release it. Otherwise, I wouldn't know. And I don't have the necessary acumen or huge depth of knowledge yet to sidechain compress my way to victory, because I barely know what that is (or was.) I don't have a teacher or someone to shadow under, like an apprenticeship. Don't think it's needed? Hmm... TL;DR: I guess for subsequent songs on these compos I can try my best, but they're going to probably sound like shit. But I guess it's no worse than what I pull off currently, which doesn't fly either. And yeah, I think I suck at making music, but it is what it is, lol. I suffer from extremely low self-esteem so I can say that about anything I touch. But, again, thanks for the tips and I'm honestly going to do my best to understand all of this advice. Got me scratching my head a bit, but guess I'm a quick enough learner. -
MnP 126: Pokemon Gold/Silver - National Park
The Vodoú Queen replied to TheVideoGamer's topic in Competitions
*Looks at the scores* Yikey-crikey-rooney... Bottom of the barrel. ...Seems like I don't do very well with MnP, lol. Congrats BTW, Col, since Harlem didn't get to vote. @APZX Hint noted. And kick was slightly right and drums left to balance sound. Didn't want drums and bass to overwhelm everything but still wanted them loud. Read up that panning and compression helps that, especially in electronica where so much shit can be loud at the same time. So IDK. Tempo changes fell through like I thought they would anyways, so song didn't have a hope in hell regardless. XD -
PRC431 - On A Different Planet With Rings (Godzilla)
The Vodoú Queen replied to Bundeslang's topic in Competitions
BTW, FWIW, I think some people voiced in the comments/critiques that they didn't get the vocal / beginning & ending references in my remix, or the song title... It comes from the fairly popularly meme'd and infamous scene/line of kinda stilted dialogue between two major characters in the newer Godzilla (2014) movie, the first one that restarted the big "MonsterVerse" franchise under Legendary Pictures: Sorry if it was a bit too obscure and I lost points or something with it... -
MnP 126: Pokemon Gold/Silver - National Park
The Vodoú Queen replied to TheVideoGamer's topic in Competitions
Mine's in, albeit like 40 minutes late. Yes, BandLab is epic in total suckage because it has no ingrained ability to slow down or speed up tempo, so I had to literally take the song, replicate it between several different files, and try to splice it back together with the variant speeds and key changes... ...*shrugs*...I tried. I'm probably going to switch to an actual DAW rather than the online thing, because it's busting my proverbial and metaphorical balls almost every single time I try to produce/compose something, and I'd rather not have a near-mental breakdown every time I make a song, lol.
