Note for note SPC rip, drumloops, loud unmasterd synths. All the right ingredients for NO

OCR01057 - *YES* Pilotwings 64 'Midnight Altitude'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Good playing, good quality. Very minimal though. Could have been more. As it is, it follows the style and genre very well. Nice Soul Blues YES -
Don't like the intro. That synth did not fit at all. Too low octave. Killed the movement as well. Way too loud. Whoa, its way repetitive. Basically note for note with the original. NO
-
I'm concluding that the lacking aspect of this song could be resolved with some more skill and arrangement. Until then NO Please work on and resubmit. Work on the ugly violin attacks and general arrangement.
-
I'm gonna need proof that this song is actually from a game before it was from a movie to even consider it for acceptance. In the meantime, its pretty typical quality rave. typical everything. I'd probably give it a yes, but as it stands, its just not from the games I've played and there is no proof showing that is from an arcade version. NO

A few messy chords in the beginning. That intro was rather... off. The live sax is too loud and too close to the mic. It gets better though. I like the drums sax comes and goes away. Its rather odd. The Drum progression keeps repeating with the drums and crash hits, whats with that? It could use more variation. This is rather mechanical. The drums were way mechanical and the crashes don't fit at all. Mastering could have been applied better in this song. The arrangement could be better. Work on the recording of the sax and the arrangement aspect of the song NO

This mix had the spirit and some real good sound samples, but... but... The entire song has some serious chord/key issues. There is a great deal of off notes and bad chords. The entire song just constantly hit at me with the wrong notes in every section. I would really like to hear this song resubmitted with all the off notes and chords fixed and perhaps a better intro and ending. The ending was extremely abrupt and inconclusive. NO

OCR00205 - Final Fantasy VI "Death on the Snowfield"
Protricity replied to m68030's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Remixes on this site most certanly do not compete with eachother. Professional music has no comparison to songs on this site because they are driven by profession while we are driven by personal feelings towards a song. This song managed to capture the feel of a certain scene of Final Fantasy 6 perfectly. Its not the instrumentation or the accompany that people love (although it was quite well done). Its the mood that this song caught. To me, it was quite perfect with the soft piano chords symbolizing falling snow upon battered battle field, fire silently in the distance. Amievil took that narshe scene right out of the game and converted it to music with uncommon precision. That is what people like about this song, not the fact that its a popular Final Fantasy tune. -
There is some ugly programming on the violin. Attack isn't being considered. Same goes for just about every string instrument used. Still.. this song has a very strange effect on me. Its very hard to concentrate on. It makes me think of other totally unrelated things. Maybe that was the intention? GRAH!11 I'm totally borderline. The effect of this song is undeniable, but the song itself is extremely lacking.... I'll get back to this.

2 minutes is way too short for a dance mix, or any mix for that matter. The beat never changes in the slightest. There is nothing but bass and lead going on. Melody follows original rather exactly. Work on length and progression NO

*N/A* Dance Dance Revolution 5th Mix 'Hot Limit'

Definately not professionally played, but still rather well done. Could have used mastering, but then you can't really do that when playing live Very nice YeS!!~ -

Wanna help me out then? My Soundbank cd was scratched and I need to burn another one, what I need to know is the cd label of the Reason Sound Bank (the default one). I just need the label Anyone have? -
This gets a NO because it is Extremely repetitive, and aside from the sfx, its nearly no different from the original.jlkjlkljjoilijlli / jj liijlkljk sorry, I was cleaning my keyboard. Basically, This needs to be more involved, more melody, something more than the minimalistic melody of the original. I also had some problems with the beat. It doesn't flow too well.

If you wanna adjust the tempo of the drex, you might also want to adjust the tempo of the whole song. If you have cubase, rewire reason to cubase by opening cubase, then reason. Create a Tempo Track on Cubase and set cubase to midi master. Then you can alter the tempo anywhere during a song. -
*NO* Final Fantasy 10 'To Zanarkand' *FT*
Protricity replied to Protricity's topic in Judges Decisions
Probably: "Hmm, I think I'll put this up as a fallthru".More realistically, I'm starting to be of the impression that posting potential NOs as fallthrus during times of .. lets say ... general inactivity isnt really a bad thing. During these times, I think we should just post all fallthroughs we get, regardless of whether we think they will fail or not. -
*NO* Final Fantasy 10 'To Zanarkand' *FT*
Protricity replied to Protricity's topic in Judges Decisions
Indeed this song has no melody at all. Its a very octive-based simplistic rendition of the original with the typical simplistic beats. I was waiting for something to happen, a dramatic pause, a change in style, a melodic shift, anything. Nothing happened but 3 minutes of repeating. The synths aren't even that good this time. The thing that really got me though is that even with all the template programming, this song lacks the real movement and motivation commonly found in this genre. NO -
I think he was addressing DJP.

This is more or less an SPC rip with drumloops. NO Override

*NO* Conker's Bad Fur Day 'Windy Meadow'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
The bird fx are pretty cute, as is the whole of the song. The wind sfx is rather out of place. The song itself is way short. Not much is going on here aside from a simple half-way arrangement of the main theme. Go for around 4 minutes instead of 1 and improve on the arrangement. NO -
*NO* Shadowgate 'Sailing The Sea of Bauttal'Tu'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Pretty good SFX arrangement, but will this song become anything? No. Oh well, it could have been pretty interesting if it developed any kind of real melody/song structure. I'm pretty borderline on this one, as it seems to be a rather ambient-minded song, but at the same time, really lacking in anything else. Theres way too much of the 'talking clips' and the 'spacy sound effects' going on instead of ambient melody. This isn't a SFX display site. NO -
Way to much reliance on drumloops and vocal clips. Its pretty much note for the note with the original.(check out shatterhand.nsf 3/13) and way too short. Work on variation, your own drums, and more arrangement/length. NO

OCR01049 - *YES* Chrono Trigger 'Song of the Mountain'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
GRAH!!11 THIS SONG ISNT EVEN IN CRONOTRIGGAR WTCRUD/ Anyway, Interesting groove here, though its kind of saturated. Lots of SFX in the back that cause a bit of confusion. This has some pretty damned good variation. A nice medley. Borderline on this one, the quality could be better. YES for impressive arrangement. -
OCR01060 - *YES* Dragon Warrior 'Kingdom Come' *FT*
Protricity replied to Beatdrop's topic in Judges Decisions
Wow, our second Dragon Warrior song from Unknown. I'm starting to suspect that 'Unknown' is an actual person !111!!!1!1!1! Anyway, The good ole' DW theme here. WoW ! Lots of arrangement going on. Original stuff, and DW theme stuff. This is pretty solid. There are some messy sections, but wow. I'm impressed here. Clipping at 2:25 A nice DW medley. This is getting a Yes for now, though I"m not too sure about that clipping part.. YES
