I'm doing this for Bad Dudes VS OCR.
-
Every collab I've done has been very successful because I make sure to let the people I'm working with know that they're no more or less important than anyone else on the song/album. Once we establish a mutual respect we delegate the roles out and make sure we all have a way of communicating musically. Also, the only people I really collaborate with are a very close bunch of friends I have in the community and we all just happen to be using the same DAW, but even then you can run into problems because of plugins and whatnot, so we force ourselves to stay with the stock plugins until we finish an arrangement, and then we each go off and record our parts to all be sent back to the producer (usually me) to mix the song. In the case where I'm working with someone who doesn't use the same DAW as me, we stick strictly to GM until the song is written.

I require a controller.
SnappleMan replied to GarretGraves's topic in Music Composition & Production
I'm very much NOT a fan of M-Audio. They make very cheap feeling keyboards that destroy your fingers and their pitch wheels feel awful. You're best off either getting an Edirol PCR: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PCR800/ or checking ebay for quality synths/samplers from the 90s. If you have money to spend in the $500+ range, then there are many great choices you have: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MPK88/ http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UF80/ But overall, stay away from M-Audio. I've tried their entire line and it's all very poor quality for the price. -
Recorded Audio Sounding 'Weak'.
SnappleMan replied to PROTO·DOME's topic in Music Composition & Production
What you need is compression to bring out more of the body of the sax and bring up a little bit more of the room sound (if you recorded in a proper room). Also, when you record your sax, like Garret said, you need a condenser mic. -
It was lame 5 years ago when I had 78 other things going on. Now I got free time so shut the fuck up and suck my dogs dick <3

Or, people can be like me and do a song for each. -
Okay, done. I've been dying to finish this song from Romancing Saga 3 that I started back in 2006. I'll run it by joker and see if he's down with it.

So I was asked to join this thing about 5 or so years ago.... is it too late!?

Heroes vs. Villains (OC ReMix vs. The Bad Dudes) - History
SnappleMan replied to Mustin's topic in Projects
This isn't actually relevant to the discussion, but I'm gonna point out the FF6, FF7 and Chrono Trigger remixes, and how there are up to 7 or 8 remixes of some songs in those lists. -

I could listen to an entire album that's just the same one source arranged 12 times by 12 different people, and absolutely adore it. As long as the people doing it know their shit, I wouldn't worry at all about overlaps. Honestly, next thing you know, they'll take your thoughts away. -

Castlevania: Simon's Quest: Dracula's Curse: Adventure: Bloodlines (holy fucking prog): SotN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4yc3sx0WLw I'm sure there's a dude bad enough to combine all of those into a truly MONSTER MIX, bro. Also, I'm sure you can throw in some ominous last stage music in there to add to the evil tension etc etc. Though, I don't know if any of the Bad Dudes have what it takes to throw self respect and good taste out the window and create the mega progged out wankfest that a theme of Dracula would have to be! -

So? Is there a bad enough dude to challenge me with a theme of Dracula? -

Any good songs left? I think I should counter some of danimals typical villian metal noise with my own typical hero metal noise. If nobody is doing theme of Simon Belmont, count me the fuck IN! -
Contra 4 - Rocked 'n' Loaded OUT NOW!
SnappleMan replied to SnappleMan's topic in General Discussion
I drew the characters on the cover, FoxxDragon did the paint and all the background stuff. His photoshop skills are insane. -
Yo dudes. Album's been live for a good week now, and they're selling like hot cakes. We're down to the last 100 so if any of my OCRemix brothers want it, now's the time! http://www.rockednloaded.com/

New remixer? Input needed!
SnappleMan replied to StandingInMotion's topic in Music Composition & Production
Discouraging people from creating music is disgusting. I've said my fair share of harsh things over the years, but I don't think I've ever told someone to stop. Honestly... People on both sides of the coin need to stop obsessing about what software you're using, which plugins are the best, and what your favourite remixer uses. Just fucking make music. When you get good enough at it that you can form a real opinion on which software works for you, or which plugins sound best to you, we'll be here to discuss. Just please, get there first Always remember, little Japanese men created incredible music under limitations that you and I will never experience even using software that was created as far back as the mid-late 90s. Even the smallest, cheapest, seemingly useless plugins/sounds can sound incredible when used correctly. Just learn to write music and how to properly use MIDI controllers, you'll be golden. -
Holy Christ! How is this at all "smooth"? It's so ridiculously loud and annoying! You really need to rethink how you're going about that song. The sounds you've chosen are extremely annoying and do not offer any room for dynamic variation. Everything is consistently loud, there's nothing interesting going on because you're just listening to the same flatlined mix. What I mean is, you need to choose sounds that are not so digitally saturated. Then there's the arrangement (or lack there of)... the original song has great funk elements that you should be working off of, not burying under generic trance bullshit.

Oh man, sorry to say, but there's no way these remixes even come close to being good enough to pay tribute to Dynamite Headdy sorry
-
The "man it would be better if they did this..." idea fails because 9 times out of 10 you can't write songs on "their" level. I just arrange songs I personally like, and try to do them as much justice as possible. And I try very hard to preserve the original feel of the song, and attempt to guess where the composer was trying to go with it. As for the process itself. I just learn the song by listening to it and start recording the keyboards/bass/drums. Then I lay down guitars and start the mixing process.

Vista 64-bit compatiable MIDI Interface cable
SnappleMan replied to -MZ-'s topic in Music Composition & Production
Echo has full Vista x64 support for all their interfaces. Also, most of the USB/Firewire stuff out there is compatible. And you can always get a trusty old Audiophile or Delta 10/10 and do a torrent search for the private beta drivers (which I use with both the 10/10 and Audiophile and they are rock solid). If you're looking for a standalone MIDI interface and not overall audio interface, you really have no 100% sure options though -
So far the best way to learn about how CPS2 does it's magic is to you download the Nebula Jukebox player. In there, you have a full channel mixer where you can mute/solo every single channel used within a song. Great way to learn the music and to hear the tricks they use.
