  1. Origin of my name is Greek. I'm half Greek and half Yugoslavian. But yeah, it's not the people who make the videos, they credit me most of the time. It's people on YouTube and other sites claiming to be me and taking credit for my work.
  2. Dude, feel free to hit me up on AIM. I'll see about getting you hooked up with some better sounds.
  3. The mixing in this new version is TERRIBLE. Same for the vocals (though the lyrics are hilariously awesome). You got a long way to go before calling this finished. The guitar tone is really bad also. Are you just using a metalzone through line in?
  4. Many people don't even know what EQ actually is. I mean, yeah, you can know what it is in technical terms but that doesn't mean you know how to apply it to music. The best way to learn about what the purpose of EQ is in music is to learn about a full orchestra and what it's composed of. Every instrument in an orchestra has a specific range, no other instrument in it's particular family (woodwinds, strings etc.) shares that exact range. This means that those instruments are naturally made to fit between each other and fill gaps in the frequency range we humans can hear. Now, applying that to EQ is simple. Since electronic instruments don't always have a designated range, and with processing we can change the frequencies and characteristics of the sounds, we have to EQ things so that they fit together without overlapping too much. Most people here use EQ as en effect to make it BOOM TSSS, and the main problem this place has in terms of quality of music is that most of the people don't bother to use Google and learn about what makes music work on a technical level.
  5. I started using Cakewalk back in the 90s. Then I used Sonar when that came out, then a couple years ago I switched to Cubase because it worked better in almost every way.
  6. Ughh, I've been getting a few requests from YouTube users to "Prove" that my account there is actually me from here. Seems that a lot of people are taking the music I made for this project and making videos out of it, and other people with the screename "SnappleMan" might be taking credit. So yeah, my YouTube username is my name "AndreasKotsamanidis". Anyone else on YouTube claiming to have created the music is lying.
  7. Crazy is different, I don't mean it's crazy. Dance of Eternity by Dream Theater is crazy, but that's good. Your song sounds pointless right now. I'll wait till you get lyrics and live guitars in there. Also, the drums don't sound real at all. If you're using soundfonts, go download something like NS_Kit free.
  8. Valkyrie Profile is one of my all time favorite games.... Ughh... where's the song? All I hear is really bad MIDI guitar, bass and drums. Anyway, you're trying way too hard to write something complex. The first half of the song is all over the place, has no real musical merit. The second half is a bit better, but again, no melody, no structure, no direction. Sounds like you're going for a progressive rock kind of sound, but unfortunately for everyone, you're failing... miserably.
  9. After careful consideration, I've decided to join this project and submit a song to it. NOT!
  10. Whoa! How the hell did this get rejected, it's perfection! All you did was slow the song down and play it with really shitty GM instruments. Not bashing GM though, you can make a great song using GM sounds if you know how to use MIDI properly and can mix the tracks well afterwards. Anyway, your song has no structure, it's a repetitive loop that just adds something "new" the next time it comes around. Once again there's the problem of not knowing what makes the original song good. It's supposed to be an up-tempo, energetic song. You slowing it down SOUNDS like a slowed down version of the song, to reduce the tempo properly, unlike what you did, you're supposed to add more to the song to make use of the extra time. If you want to keep it at this speed, then you have to consider adding to the arrangement. The easiest way to start is by adding more rhythm to the song, the drum track is too boring, spice it up.
  11. Bit of a hardware change. I am on vacation now, so I'm using my laptop for music. Core 2 Duo at 2.2mhz or something with an Echo Audiofire interface. Also, I've upgraded my main setup to include a few more things. I'm working with (or rather, WILL be working with when I get home) 3 PCs the two main desktops are connected via S/PDIF and USB to jointly run VST plugins. One smaller P1 or 486 connected via S/PDIF to run Pinguin (incredibly awesome oscilloscope/analyzer for mixing and mastering).
  12. ughhh... look harder? Or better yet, read the help file. Cubase has a great piano roll, and the best notation editor I've used in any DAW. Not to mention the top of the line EVERYTHING ELSE... Read the help file, check out the knowledge base at www.Cubase.net (it's free, so you can use it even if you bootleg the software, which I know you didn't...) The simple things are best learned on your own, the interface can be a bit daunting at first if switching from Fruity Loops but in a day or two you'll be able to do everything you did in FL. In a month you'll realize how much more there is to music creation now that you have a real DAW operational.
  13. Guitar Rig has to be learned to sound good. I've gotten some great sounds out of the Mesa Boogie model in GR2, just be sure to click the little + on the amp and tweak the voltage and tube settings. Still, Amplitube 2 smokes it.
  14. Square waves actually have harmonic values (only odd ones though), so making a song with square waves will be easier than sine waves, which have no harmonics.
  15. Music and recorded music are not the same. If you get together with a few people in a band and start playing live, there's a natural quality to the sound that can sound perfectly fine on its own. But with recorded music, you really need to make sure that it's mixed well and everything is coming through well. A good arrangement can very easily be ruined by a bad mix, and conversely, a mediocre arrangement can be saved by a good mix (see SnappleMan's songs on OCremix for an example of the latter). You can write a great arrangement using nothing but pure sine waves, and if it truly is a great arrangement, it'll get accepted. But the chances of you or most any of us writing a great arrangement for sine waves, are slim.
  16. I use MML for all my nsf creations. It's a bit difficult to get into, but it's the best and most accurate. Whoever said that a soundfont emulates the square wave exactly is a dildo. Also, with MML you can create your own DPCM out of any sample you want. I see no reason for using anything else if you're going to authenticity.
  17. Great song! I love the arrangement, works so good with the guitars. Very tasteful. The guitar tone is great, as always, and everything is very nicely balanced, though the kick drum gets lost from time to time. Performance wise, this is great! The playing is very professional sounding, your personal style comes through very well (as do your influences). I just wish the drum track was a bit more interesting. Overall, a fantastic song nobody should miss out on. Great work!
  18. i kno rite the verjin on da projekt is a11 g4y + sh1t da vurzjuun ur look1ng 4 15 1n ur moms an005
  19. Like someone above mentioned, there's a free demo of Addictive Drums available. You really should check it out.
  20. As far as I'm concerned EZDrummer sucks. The interface is nice and all that, but the sounds are way too processed for my tastes. Addictive Drums does everything EZdrummer can do, and so much more, not only that but the samples are raw, instead of doing processing on the wave files like EZD, it's all stored in built in EQ presets. Other than that, Battery has some GREAT kits, but for double the price of DFH2 you're getting ripped off. The best thing out there is Drumkit From Hell Superior, BFD is a very close second. DFH2 is one of the many kits in DFHS, built into a custom Kompakt sampler. Be careful though, DFH2, while great, is limited by Kompakt. The close tom mics cannot be panned using the Kompakt sampler it comes with since there are only 8 outputs in Kompakt forcing the toms to be routed to two output channels. If budget is not an issue, then there is no excuse for not getting Drumkit From Hell Superior, just be sure you can devote a good bit of time learning about how to properly play/program and mix it (same applies for all raw drum sample libraries).
  21. Oh shit, I was gonna offer to record all the guitars live for this song... I guess I just forgot about it THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU USE MSN MESSENGER, chumble spuzz! Congrats on a terrific arrangement, dude! Says Ness757..... you fail.
  22. First thing I would do is secure an area you want to use as a studio and build walls around it. Get some plywood or whatever and make a simple room to lock yourself and the sound in. If you use the studio foam with your basement as it is, it wont make much of a difference since you'll still have the fucked up shape of the room to mess up your monitoring. Once you have a nice control room, place the foam on the walls (if you can afford a whole rooms worth of padding, then go for it) and enjoy! What kind of speakers are you using anyway? From your post it seems like you're using more than two.
