  1. You mean in the track properties view? (where you set the MIDI channel, soundbank and patch?) If so, not all drum patches will show up, some of them will just automatically activate if you simply route the soundbank to that midi track and set it to channel 10. If you're still having problems, just open the soundfont in Vienna Soundfont Studio and change it so it's not a GM drum soundfont, then just load it onto any channel you want (except 10) and it should work fine.
  2. Korg Oasys. Carvin K15 keyboard amp. Unless you're not THAT serious.
  3. From what I've heard so far, Sixto has it pretty much locked up in the metal department. His tracks have some incredible guitar wankery.
  4. HEY KYLE! Thanks for linking to Rubblers song, I've been trying to find it for weeks.
  5. As far as free stuff goes, NSkit is your best bet as far as I know. It has a level of dynamics that's a complete necessity for REAL AUTISTIC drum sounds. If you're willing to spend money, the no.1 best choice is Drumkit From Hell Superior.
  6. Your voice has a great tone to it, I like it better in this than your previous stuff. The lyrics totally turn me on, I'm like 100% erect right now... Only thing is, I'd prefer it to be about 10 years older. What I mean is, a mid 90s sound to this would be so much better. Some very mellow, wanky guitar soloing in the background, and an Elton John-esque piano coming in once in a while to blow things up. Also, it would really benefit from a deep, fretless bass. Good work!
  7. I really didn't care for Live at first, but it's been growing on me over time. Going back to Sonar after learning Cubase and a bunch of other DAWs is a bit strange. In the end, Sonar has the best MIDI implementation I've seen. The editing is much faster and smoother, for me at least. But it still feels strange compared to Cubase.
  8. One of my very first electric guitars was one that I just happened to have, I think either someone gave it to my dad or I got it at a pawn shop, but it was equipped with a synth pickup system. Must have been broken or something, or my shitty onboard MIDI in, but it wouldn't really pick up anything correctly. Most of what I would record would have to be severely "corrected" (see fig. Ruined) using a mouse. So yeah, my experiance was pretty shitty. I've seen some synth systems for sale really cheap at some pawn shops around here, but I don't trust em at all.

  10. 6-9 inches? What the hell? When you mic a cab, the mic should be right up on the cab. It's up to you to decide how many speakers you want to mic, I'd use one mic for every two speakers, so 2 mics for a 4x12 cab. Then you have to decide how you're gonna position the mics. Traditionally, you can put the mic right in the center of the speaker or to the side of the speaker.
  11. A POD will always sound like a POD. Though both that and the GT-8 sound great, I would recommend the GT-8 because it makes a really good effects board, with great routing, and it sounds better (with a bit of work).
  12. So yeah, I was forced to give the track up to dhsu, so I can work on decisive instead. You should probably change that on the front page.
  13. You should get on the AOL Instant Messenger once in a while so I can conversate with you, like we used to before project drama got between us... I STILL LOVE YOU KYLE!
  14. Yo Kyle. Sorry about being MIA and all that. Magfest seems to really have done a number on everyone... My tracks will be on your PC on Saturday, January 27th, 2007. Now please, unban me from the SotS message boards :C
  15. Hmmm, the words TRY and SOME SORT OF DRUMTRACK make me feel that you're not 100% confident with your abilities to do this. I suggest, in that case, that you leave it as is. It's great the way it is right now.
  16. I say it needs more of a rhythm section. Add a bass maybe? Or some drums? Who knows... I'd vote YES though. Great playing, good sounding guitars, great recording, lots of nice dynamics all over it.
  17. I never use my wrist when picking. I primarily learned to play as a lead player, everything I do is to try and conserve as much time and movement as I possibly can so I can more accurately move from string to string and keep up my picking rhythm. I anchor my picking hand either on the bridge or on the strings (depending on what I'm playing), so that I can have a feel for what string is where. This means that I can't really play traditional rhythm guitar, not well at least. But the payoff is that I can play more complex, metal rhythms and really fast leads feel natural to me (except sweep picking which I can't really do).
  18. Your best bet is to scour ebay for good deals. I got myself a nice Carvin bass for $400 shipped, brand new! You'd have to pay over $1000 to get one from Carvin themselves. What you really want to do is wait for either a good deal on a Carvin, or a Fender bass. You can probably get a Fender Jazz or P bass for $300 brand new at Guitar Center if you're lucky.
  19. Fake guitars will always sound like shit. You're MUCH better off going with a slightly synched saw lead. Something with a medium attack, and warm body that has a good response to modulation. If you have any kind of moog/minimoog VSTs, I suggest you try em out. A classic late 70s style synth would really fit in well with this track.
  20. One of the few songs on the FF7 OST that doesn't suck, and you've managed to destroy everything that made the original decent. Not feeling this song one bit. The guitar(?) sounds like complete shit. The drumbeat is annoying and doesn't keep a good beat to the song. The arrangement is missing all of the rhythmic, Iron Maiden-esque galloping elements that made the original song very fun to listen to. WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN Z--------------!
