  1. This just kicked the Wind Waker's ass. Beautiful, splendid. It puts Prot's old orchestral DKC2 mix to shame. The swell at 1:24 is especially wonderful. Good stuff, man. Not only did you pick a great track to go orchestral, but you really kept it interesting and at a good length.
  2. Uncanny. I heard a very strong resemblance ot Edward Scissorhands in this as well. I don't have much to add myself. This mix is wonderful. Go get it if you like orchestral with some bite. Hope to hear some more from both zircon & Unknown. Keep up the good work, both of you.
  3. Blow my Triforce, bitch Open up, put it in Let's begin Blow it like you mean it blow Nevermind ¬¬; This is a great mix, in that we don't have enough "wtf?!" ones on this site for my tastes. Ever since I heard Music of My Groin (now legendary), I always looked forward to the stupid, funny ones. The mixing itself leaves something to be desired, sure, but with the context it fits nicely, I think. I don't think anyone was taking this one seriously, but that doesn't mean that Flik doesn't rock hard.
  4. Headfirst... The first 2'15" of the mix is fairly solid, though at times the awesome arrangement seems to not be all there. The quieter instruments in the background are virtually unnoticable unless you really listen for them, but they add so much to the music that this should not be. If I have any problems with this song, it's with the first 2'15". It lacks the energy and soul of the latter parts of the song. In addition, to me this makes it more difficult to enjoy the song as a whole, with an intro such as this making me feel like something's missing. Into specifics... the first 0'45" of the song is great, I wouldn't change a thing. Things don't start to snag until the string plucks come in, first in the far background and then into the foreground. Although they die quickly, they don't seem to fit too well. Even so, they are very brief. When the power synths kicks back in things are fine... but at 2'02" there's a synth that completely overpowers the guitar synth. There's a pause and a choir, and all is well once more. Though the mix's intensity varies a lot from there on, I have nothing to bitch about past that point as far as what I feel is quality. All in all this is a good ReMix, Prot. It has style, a soul, and it's cool to listen to... However, it suffers for two reasons, as far as I can tell. One, it sounds far too much like you "Assembly Line Apperitions", but not in a good way, per se. It has the same synth-rock feel to it, and it sounds great, but "KRool Intentions" doesn't do it quite as well. Granted, you don't want two mixes from the same game sounding identical. However, while the fact that "KRool Intentions" does not completely emulate "Assembly Line Apperitions" is right, it doesn't achieve that level of balance that all your other mixes have. Also, I don't like the fact that you ended both songs on the exact same sample and chord. Problem number two is "Forest Birdcussion" itself. That song had such an incredible sense of mastery and atmosphere, it seemed as if it could leap from my speakers and fill the room around me. It was, in my humble opinion, your best work yet and the best DKC mix on the site to date.
  5. It's really not fair to be this way, but Protricity is about the only ReMIxer I listen to anymore. When a new mix of his comes out, it is indeed like Chirstmas. First off, before I forget, this mix has insane resemblance to a certain Castlevania mix on this site that I do not know the name of... Just thought I'd throw that out there, since a Castlevania-esque mood really fits the situation, I think; all dark and foreboding, or however you spell that. I gave a huge, emotional speech about Ari's last mix, "Forest Bidcussion", so this time I'll be more vague and take up less space. First of all, ass has been kicked. It's difficult to guage just how much ass though, since I had to listen to it for the first time on mono... But even so, it sounds great. This mix has a microcosm all it's own; part of a larger DKC2 experience but also a self-contained romp all it's own. That pretty much goes for all of the DKC mixes on the site, but Prot's especially. In closing, though I wish I could comment on individual parts, as a whole this mix is quite good. Personally, I feel like "Forest Birdcussion" is a better listen, but it has nothing to do with style... really, I can't pick out anything in particular, so maybe it's just the mono sound. Oh, I lied. On more thing. The stop-and-go nature of the song is show of Ari's genius. Those of you who have played the level in the game will recall how the battle had two distinct stops where your buddy DK would momentarily be flashed before you, and K Rool looked to be defeated... but he kept coming, more ferocious than ever before. In that light, the song plays to not only the level's music, but it's visual and even play style as well. When just listening to a song gives you the impression that you're playing a game, experiencing it all with just one sensory organ, then THAT my friend, is GREAT music. Ari, I hope you live to be 100 years old and have a dozen kids who are vaguely like you. I love you, man
  6. I suppose I'm not an integral part of this community at all... I rarely post anywhere but in ReView anymore. I post about once every so many months, at that. I'm a lurker, you see. I post when I just feel It'd be a crime not to. That said... This ReMix commands my attention. The first time I heard it I was blown away. I got the chills. I closed my eyes and just listened... I think I had it on replay about a dozen times. Seems like every time I'd listen to it I'd hear a little something I hadn't before, like the ghost SFX from the rope ghosts - I sadly cannot remember the exact name of the level or area offhand - or the subtle echos of the original synth around 3' or so... Sometimes I wonder what it is about the Donkey Kong Country games and their music that is so appealing to me. Sometimes I wonder why I still feel like they were the best gaming experience I've ever had. Only a few RPGs can hold a place in my heart as close as them. What was Rare's inspiration? Where did David Wise and the other come from? Did Nintendo realize what they had, or do they even do today? Anyway, I'm getting off track... I'm a sentimental type... So here's my verdict: this is one of the top ten remixes on this site, hands down. This ReMix has become a personal favorite. After listening to this I found it hard to listen to almost all the other electronica on OCR without feeling a lack in quality... like something that I once heard is no longer there anymore. I don't know if it's fair to say this or not, but I feel like I've seen the highest mark a ReMix can currently reach, and anything in the same genre just seems so contrived in comparason. I have to stop typing at some point, so I might as well close now before I go on for another six paragraphs. Ari, I don't know if you'll read this or not, but this is my personal thank-you to you for putting so much love into this remix. It's not just that it's a great song, and that I play it so many times on loop at a time people in the general area slowly move away ( ), but it's the fact that this ReMix has a certain texture and emotion to it. It not only captures the emotion and texture of the original music, but for me it sublimates into something more. It's hard to put into words... It has beauty, it has soul, it has life all its own. It is its own microcosm. It has such a powerful mix of nostalgia and art it takes all other things off my mind. When I listen to this, I get this feeling that I am not being lied to. That is the best possible combination of words I can find right now. Not "I feel like I'm hearing the truth." Just that I'm not being lied to. I don't know what to say. 10/10. Five stars. Ari, with every one of your mixes I've heard, your skill continues to grow. I take comfort in the knowledge that you still love the whole experience, DK and all. You have real talent. God bless you, man. ~Adam
  7. This is tied with Assembly Line Apperitions for my all-time favrite mix here. For me, there has been no game since DKC1-3 that has captured my imagination, taken me to new creative hights, to be considered the epitomy of what video games should be... anf you know what? It wouldn't be half that without the work of David Wise and others on the franchise's most SUBLIME soundtrack. This mix is no slouch compared to that. Better than the original, just as ambient if MORESO, and with more soul than any othe mixer on the site has stirred in me yet... Sign me up, I want this song played at my funeral, wedding, and any other important even, followed quickly by Assembly Line Apperitions. 11/10 Simply off the scale.
  8. The sheer mix of instruments here is commendable, but this piece is alltogether swingin! The DKC1 Jungle Theme is an epic theme indeed... it goes on and on, and just when you think you've heard it before, it seems to evolve... This piece would have to be about four more minutes longer to really get that, but nonetheless, it's a swining time in the jungle for all! 8/10
  9. Ah, this is a real beauty... it might be a little late to comment on it, but what the hell. Protricity really became one of my favorite mixers on this site with this one... I'm a HUGE fan of DKC, and this track does a bit more than JUSTICE to the track, my friends Break it down... The startup is light and airy with those "paper thin" snares, and when that piano kicks in I just wanna sit down and lean back... That "mutated" electric guitar is the real star of this piece; it compliments the piano PERFECTLY. The sound at 2:58 always threw me off, and is the only thing that detracts from this; it sounds like an anvil snare being hit by a iron squeaky toy Thankfully it's smeared back into the precussion, but it is a little negitive. Overall, this one FLOWS like buttah. A perfect song to make your mind drift away on an early September wind... 10/10
  10. The startup for this one has a real "DKC" feel to it, though it is mostly of protricity's imagination; it's what builds the interest for me, like I'm waiting for every movement and beat... the precussion at 1:57 was much like the original, bare and very much in-you-face. the return of that beautiful wailing synth at 2:13 was nice... but better at 2:55 with that backup... and oh, that part were the main synth goes dancing across my graphic equalizer, THAT was giving me the jungle vibe. 4:01 - 4:51 was recognizable and refreshing, if a bit short. At 4:52, it gets a bit funkier; I'm not sure if this was place right... for me, the funkiness would be better suited to the earlier parts. The ending wasn't the greatest, but then I'm not real picky bout endings. Overall, the precussion was tight and "primal", and the synths were beautiful and fairly well placed. Some of the solos could stand to be swaped around, but that's my ONLY real gripe... which isn't a gripe at all, concidering there's not going to be a revision 9/10 Protricity! Keep the DKC flowing like hot lava, megafans of the series like myself live off your remixes month-by-month. God bless you sir.
  11. I don't think there's anything I could say that hasn't already been said, but I must say, this is one of my all-time favorite mixes. EVER. The synth work is great, the stylish piano breaths life into what would just be a long wind-down, and the samples at the begining give this mix a feeling of something... more. As a whole, this mix sounds full and beautiful; nothing ever seems contrived or out of place... it revs you up, calms you down, and then sails you away before you hit bottom. 10/10
  12. I really liked this one, it's very different from most Zelda ReMixes. The first thing that comes to mind when I listen to this is Linkin Park. Yes, Linkin Park. This mix is done in a style that would match their "Breaking The Habbit" very well. Seeing as how that song is just plain beautiful, that's a compliment in my eyes. Great job! I hope to see more of this offbeat electronic mixing style in the future.
  13. Whoa... this mix it intense. Without a doubt, the most kick-ass mix on the site. Just THINKING about it makes my adreneline skyrocket. "Hii-tah Sel-ectah"
