  1. You know, I think my favorite thing about this mix, the thing that most impresses me, is the restraint. The super-obvious choice when doing an EDM arrangement of a track like this, with its dark driving rythms, would be to make something, loud, heavy, and hard-hitting. But this takes it in a totally different direction, while still keeping that dark feel and driving rhythm. Mellow, chill, restrained. It's really refreshing, and works extremely well!
  2. Oh man, this is so fucking cool
  3. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iI_3XGt1TdKIsWHZiy3qSThUHYHvVtk2/view?usp=sharing This is at least my third time starting on this mix from scratch; hopefully I'll actually finish it this time.
  4. Love love LOVE that lead synth in the first section. Definitely took a turn I wasn't expecting when those guitars came in. Love the back-and-forth between synthy and metal-ish sections.
  5. Whoooooooooaah! I love this! Huge, epic, dramatic! And you accomplished the often-difficult feat of having a lot going on at the same time while keeping each individual part coming through clean and clear. Beautifully done!
  6. Been playing a shitton of starcraft 2 1v1 and smash melee. Feel free to hit me up for some slippi matches sometime! Also obligatory #FreeMelee
  7. Oh hell yes. If Nintendo does succeed in killing melee (#freemelee), this looks like it could be a good option to switch to.
  8. Alright, so I went ahead and picked up The Witcher 3. .... it was not designed to be played on a TV the size of mine. Text is completely illegible. Unfortunately, this game will have to wait until some day in the future when I have a bigger display. I really wish game designers would make text resizeable.
  9. OOOOOOOOOOOH this is gorgeous! Top-notch!
  10. Oh, completely tangential, but while we're on the subject of Horizon: Zero Dawn.... There is a real company called Faro, which really specializes in robotics and automation, and has a real product called a Focus Scanner, which is a system for scanning things in 3d and reconstructing them digitally -- and as far as I can tell, this is all a complete coincidence. https://www.faro.com/products/construction-bim/faro-focus/
  11. I will definitely pick it up then
  12. Do I need to play (or read a plot summary or watch a lets play) of 1 and 2 first, or would I be fine diving straight into 3?
  13. Horizon: Forbidden West Zero Dawn is easily in my top 3 games ever
  14. So it loos like 15 years after graduating high school I'm finally about to go to college. *shrug* we'll see how it goes
  15. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Gy3KyM3Xc-jKWz09hDBcmqMxdopYRH_q/view?usp=sharing Still missing leads in a few spots, but the general idea is there.
  16. HAHAHAHA Wow I never would have thought of taking this track in a direction like this! Super creative, and well-executed. I especially love the big beefy rythm guitars
  17. I love Mischief Makers, and I hate Synthwave, so let's see how this goes.... First thing I notice is that it's really quiet. Some mastering/multiband compression/maximization/whatever would help this a lot. Low end feels really empty. The only thing that sort of occupies the low end is the kick, and even that feels a bit thin. I hear a bass synth that feels like it should be filling out the low-end.... might just be my headphones, but it doesn't seem to really do it. Arrangement is repetitive and straightforward. Gonna be honest: this seems like a respectable early foray into music production, but doesn't seem like something that's destined to be posted. It's too conservative in the arrangement and too quiet in the production. Don't be discouraged though! First thing I'd focus on is making the bass more interesting. I can totally imagine this track forming the foundation under which a rippin' bass solo would run. Second thing I'd focus on is making the percussion more varied and more interesting. Right now, it's just a thin repetitive loop, but some slicing and dicing (and punchier samples) could really liven this up! Kudos for mixing this criminally-underappreciated game DISCLAIMER: I have literally never heard a synthwave track that I liked, so take what I say here with a grain of salt
  18. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-oNix9r7icrR4UB15Pfcbm13SbUoyQVz/view?usp=sharing Goron City from Zelda OoT/TP. Collaborating with @ffmusic dj on production. In a sense, this is a tribute to the historical contributions of black musicians, and an exploration of the history of the banjo. It uses a fretless gourd banjo, a standard fretted banjo, and a bluesy acoustic guitar with a bronze slide. Still super-rough as far as production. Levels, EQ, FX, etc have not been addressed at all yet
  19. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KDBJMCXIEATSqdswefry6fCHrzA0TOQZ/view?usp=sharing Spekkio's Theme, done as an old time back porch fiddle/banjo tune. Heavily inspired by "Soldier's Joy," another classic fiddle tune (in fact I even snuck in the Soldier's Joy melody in a few parts). @XPRTNovice on acoustic guitar, @MagiNinjA on fiddle, and me on clawhammer banjo! 20. I'm so sure I've heard this, but I can't identify it.....
  21. I just obtained a fretless gourd banjo. Holy shit. Music just pours out of this thing. There is now a remix of Goron City in progress, which I will ostensibly claim credit for, but make no mistake: I did not write this arrangement, the banjo wrote it for me.
