So the team that brought us Persona 4 is apparently on a new title with a cameo from a Persona 3 Portable character. http://www.siliconera.com/2010/08/17/introducing-catherine-the-first-hd-game-from-the-persona-team/ There will most likely be strong sexual references in this game, which is kinda rare but also kinda scary because the game might not make it outside Japan without strong censorship. I am terribly excited about this !

Future Of Video Games: 3D vs. Mind-control.
PriZm replied to Less Ashamed Of Self's topic in General Discussion
i think of gaming as a kind of discussion between the developers and the gamers. for me, 3DTV adds vocabulary to the discussion whereas mind control as you explained it (reacting to your fear, etc.) puts too much emphasis on the user point of view and not enough on the developer's. interactivity is important but narrative also. for example i want silent hill to tell me a story, where every monster is important and significant and not something randomly created to stimulate fear in my brain. also i do not think that mind control devices could work in the next 10 years, for financial and ethical reasons. if game companies are struggling to develop stuff in HD, and even moreso in 3D, can you imagine how much it would cost to develop a game that can react to every customer brain impulses ? and i keep reading that people are not interested in 3D because they don't want to wear silly glasses. is that an internet meme or something ? what's wrong with wearing glasses to improve your experience ? is that more silly than holding a controller ? have you ever looked at someone playing video games who looks cool while doing so ? i do not understand -
no soul calibur

the idea of having a semi-public beta sucks ass. they really wanted to make sure the skill gap between players would be as huge as possible

lol using scraping spear is so gay (read, frustrating for other players). game is OK... I did not find it THAT hard compared to other games like GTAIV (yeah I don't know why I cannot play this game)... Voice acting is good; I would say the only thing you can be mesmerized about when playing this game is the maiden's voice . But yeah, I thought the game was good, but not great; especially if you want a good story, you certainly won't find it there. Nothing is really stupid or poorly executed about it, it's just not the focus of the game.

I'm not very excited about any of the confirmed titles but if Namco Bandai could announce a new Soul Calibur game/update/DLC on PS3 or if Atlus announces a new SMT/Persona game, I'll be happy

wow this game sure is addictive. it made me realize how much I hated the open world in burnout paradise. Anybody tried multiplayer yet ?

yes of course if you're the grindy type you can spend most of your time in battles. However, this is not required to beat any of the enemies in the game, including the optional strongest boss. Holy shit did I love this series. Anyways, back to Final 13; as I said, 20 hours is longer than you would ever spend finishing most action games, so I say if you cannot get into it after that time, don't bother. It's not gonna change much anyways, and there are too many good games out to waste your time Personally I loved the game, I just thought the grinding and post-game were the worst in the history of RPGs.
-
i disagree. i would say that you don't even spend 50% of your time in battles in xenosaga. sure improving your character is important, but i would not say it is the main focus of the game. also if you're not into it after 20 hours, don't bother

FFXIII would probably have been better if they could have charged 10$ more.

Thank you all for the great advice. Unfortunately I cannot play with you on XBL because I only have a PS3. I don't really have a main yet. I guess I'm just fooling around with everyone, but so far I like Juri and Ibuki. I don't care about tiers or character potential.

ya it seems like the majority of people here is on XBox. bleck: isn't it a bad habit to abuse fireball ? Aren't they like super-punishable and relying on them would stop me from getting better ? djpretzel: yeah I was awful at SF4 too. but now I've done some Soul Calibur 4 tournaments and I was pretty confident I would be decent at Super Street Fighter 4 but it seems I was wrong. I really WANT to like this game, but it's hard to keep motivated since none of my friends play it and I get completely obliterated online. I don't feel like I'm learning because I get beat up so bad. So again, in terms of time investment, how much would you estimate before I get good ? Also, is it useful to play against the CPU ? Like, before going online, should I be able to finish Medium or Hard without losing a match or is it completely irrelevant (like in Soul Calibur) ?
-
hey i got a question for you street fighter experts. I am comfortable doing fireballs, shoryuken and ultras, but I cannot do the more complicated stuff (long combos or EX cancels etc.). How much time (or online matches) do you think I would need to be able to win something like 50% of my matches online ? Apart from being comfortable doing moves, I'm a complete street fighter newbie but I was pretty good at Soul Calibur so I am familiar with the jargon, mid-low mixups and all that shit. I just cannot figure what is effective in this game.

I was wondering when this fashionable racism against japanese would pop up. SPOILERS follow Also prophet: the reason why the grinding was exasperating was the lack of progress. The pacing was horrible. In other games, you might grind to get a cool X weapon and then you would know you are ready to fight Y monster. In this game, you basically grind to get trophies because there are no monsters that are hard or that require a special strategy to beat (unlike, say, emerald weapon, elizabeth, culex, etc.). The hardest monster in the game is the Long Gui, and there are tons of them so you don't feel like you have really accomplished anything by beating it. All the weapons are good, but you have no idea which one to upgrade unless you use a guide and they can all be found very easily in the main quest. The only 'secret' weapons (in gilgamesh inc.) are arguably the worst in the game. All enemies can be beat fairly easily once you are maxed out if you decide to turtle like crazy but the fight will take 1-2 hours. The Crystarium is WAY too easy to max meaning once it is, the only reason to continue fighting is to upgrade weapons, which means if you farm Adamantoises for example, if they decide not to drop loot, you have fought for absolutely nothing (unless of course you actually enjoy farming adamantoises). 5-starring the missions, while not very long, can be very tedious because in Titan's trials, you have to restart like 12 times to do all the paths if you didn't 5-star the mark the first time around, which you won't. Seriously, the game was interesting. Cool characters, superb graphics and soundtracks, interesting and refreshing story, innovative battle system. But the post-game was horrendous.

game was pretty cool. post-game was the worst i've ever played, which is a shame since i figure many rpg players prolly are completionists

what is so wrong about following a formula that makes catchy, enjoyable songs ? also i love how you are so quick to say pop is bland and uninspired because it follows a formula. the reason music genres exist is because they all follow a formula. bach followed a pretty tight formula, so did all the classic rock bands, blues bands, etc. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with that.

wow so much hate for pop music. I would have thought that fans of video game music would be able to appreciate the beauty of pop's simplicity.
