  1. The solo, yes, but what did you use for the rhythm guitar? Not that it's a bad thing, I'm just curious. -steve
  2. Very nice remix, but fess up: those guitars are synthesized. Nice, jazzy feel on this one. -steve
  3. Holy fuck, what an awesome song. I have to agree that K. Pras is getting exponentially better at wringing good sounds out of his geetar with every mix. The wall of sound reverb wash in this mix fits perfectly. COTMM's ambient stylings continue to give me the creeps, as they should. I'm guessing the tightly controlled breakbeaty sound that comes in at 3:36 is Beatdrop's doing. Again, great stuff. There's nothing about this mix that I don't like. Nice work. -steve
  4. I love nylon strings. They sound so mellow. There is a problem with clipping, but overall I like this very much. The playing reminds me of the Cranes' style. -steve
  5. "Bad transitions"? Not all classical music follows strict guidelines for key changes. Try listening to anything at all from the Romantic era (Mahler, Stravinsky, Schubert, et. al.) This is typical awesome Russell Cox fare. -steve
  6. Listen to that solo again. Although I'll grant that the slower parts do sort of resemble Maiden. -steve
  7. *Eargasm* This sounds like something out of Metallica ca. 1983. My sole complaint is that the drum patterns are too basic and loop-ish sounding. Nice work overall. -steve
  8. Ugh. Manson just plain sucks these days. My influences for this were death metal bands. The chord structures come right from Pestilence. As I just mentioned in another post, I'm doing a Demon's Crest medley in a black metal style that may be more to your liking--still fast, but it will also have choir and orchestral parts. -steve
  9. This arrangement floored me. Using two or three notes to sketch out a chord structure from a well-known song is a time-honored tradition, and Pollard really does this well. My sole complaint is that it's too damn short. -steve
  10. It was OK, but I kept expecting drums to come in. Now this is a nice mellow remix if you want to feel mellow, but I'm not in a mellow mood right now, so it didn't really work for me. I know sometime when I just want to kick back and relax, this remix will hit the spot. And DJP, I'm glad you set your 'murrkin flag and beer down long enough to post this. -steve
  11. *shakes head* Really, you'd think people would have fucking learned by now that YOU'RE GOING TO GET CAUGHT IF YOU USE SOMEONE ELSE'S WORK AND DON'T MENTION IT! Don't walk down the same path other people have taken and try to do it again. I give everyone two chances. Not that you probably give a shit, but I really hope NOT to be disappointed like this again. Looking forward to original work from you. -steve
  12. Super-high quality and foot-tapping goodness from Peeples. As usual. Move along, folks, nothing out of the ordinary here. Peeples, I sincerely hope you're persuing a career in music, whether in film or games, or even in radio. -steve
  13. Worst...remix...ever. Well *someone* had to say something other than endless praise, didn't they? Seriously, though, this drop-dead gorgeous remix is making me have to re-evaluate my "OCR top three" list. Curse you, Dale. That's entirely too much like work. -steve
  14. Damn fine remix. I get the feeling Roger hasn't heard much classical guitar music. Nice flamenco feel to this. In fact, the only thing that could improve it would be nylon strings, but I'm picky. -steve
  15. Wow, it went up. This is actually my favorite remix to date. I understand some of the judges' complaints about the "muddy, crowded, busy" middle, but I should point out that I mixed it that way on purpose. It *is* called "Buried Alive," after all, so even if you didn't like it, I'm happy I accomplished my goal. As for the other concerns: some of the lead in the middle was slightly out of tune. I'd like Ailsean to jump in and give me his impression, as he has a good ear for tuning. My guitar's intonation is off a bit, which affects higher notes, and I tried to correct the pitch drift with software. I don't have the best ear for pitch, though, so hopefully it wasn't too far off. For the repetition: the intro was just long enough to let me get the melody sections in (there are two in the original). I tried to make the outro a little different by throwing in the extra drum line over the bongoes, but apparently it wasn't enough to break the monotony. Anyhoo, thanks for the comments and constructive criticism. I'll keep it in mind next time around (although my Demon's Crest remix is done and I'm too sick of it to mess with it anymore, so there). -steve
  16. This remix is incredible. I think the understated drums heighten the sense of despair in this song. I would have liked more melody as in the original when the cello comes in with the main theme...this wouldn't necessarily have to be done with the cello in the remix, but the piano could have covered it. Other than that, great mix. It's on constant replay. -steve
  17. This remix was pretty, but it need some remastering (at least to bring the levels up). I wasn't crazy about the string sample used, either. I'd probably give it 2.75 Jaxx Snaxx or 6.5 Antonio Pizzas or whatnot. -steve
  18. I didn't really care for the sound of the main melody in the Dr Wily part of it, but when the guitar solo started up...holy shit. Good stuff, Maynard. -steve
  19. I dig this remix. I've never played Rez and it's been many years since I've seen _Dune_ (and I didn't even like it...books are usually better than movie adaptations anyway, but at least the book made sense), but the voice samples really work well here. Also, the "fear is the mindkiller" sample is here, near the beginning. -steve
  20. The out-of-tune guitar stopped me from listening to more than about a minute, so I can't really form an opinion of the remix as a whole, sorry. This is a mix that probably should have been submitted for peer review before it was officially submitted to DJP. It could have been a great remix if some of the more glaring problems (tuning, recording quality) were ironed out first. As it stands, though...I'm sorry, but there's no polite way to say it: this is the first remix on OCR that's actually disappointed me in a very long time. The drums sound really good, but the guitar killed it for me. Aneurysm, I'd like to see more from you, but please get feedback on your next remix before sending it to DJP. I think you'll find the effort worth it. I know several of my songs would have sucked badly if it weren't for the input of others here. -steve
  21. Hasn't hurt Ron Jeremy's career any... This mix is a classic, I don't care what Rob "Poopyhead" Saunders says. -steve
