I did it once and I'll never do it again
Thalzon replied to Jax Mandrake's topic in General Discussion
StarTropics 1 is an awesome game. Startropics 2, despite the better controls, never really reaches the same level of awesome. But yeah, the final chapter of the first game is brutally unforgiving. One contact hit from Zoda and it's game over. On-topic, in Final Fantasy X, I actually went through the effort to give Kimahri an ultimate weapon. Not his real one, though. I got 99 dark matter from the monster arena by capturing something like 10 of every monster in about 6 areas... Or something. I used 60 to teach the weapon Break Damage Limit, and it knew Magic Counter and Evade & Counter. I also taught it something else, but it turned him into my greatest killing machine. Took forever, but not half as long as if I tried to catch butterflies. -
Platinum Trophy Club (XBox included)
Thalzon replied to The Legendary Zoltan's topic in General Discussion
Before I lost the trophy information, I got all the trophies in Costume Quest. And.... that's it. The amount of crap required to get platinum in most games is irritating, to say the least. -
3DS: Friend Codes on First Page, OMG THE THIRD DIMENSION
Thalzon replied to The Damned's topic in General Discussion
I'll be getting it and playing on Super Casual Pussy Mode. I hate restarting because someone died (no, I cannot keep going if I lose someone, fuck that), so it's a welcome addition. -
Something about Darksiders 2 on the WiiU.... They removed quick-time events, I think. See, sometimes when you beat a boss or there's a particularly long cutscene full of action you can see WHERE these events might've been, but they're gone. So instead you get to watch an awesome finisher rather than focusing on where button prompts will appear. That said I have no proof they were ever in there in the first place, but I am glad they're not present.

I hope a good number of you wrote in Zack & Wiki.

Dungeons & Dragons: OCR Edition (Check us out on #D&D)
Thalzon replied to Ethan Rex's topic in General Discussion
It'd be fun, why not? -
Well, without giving anything away, I correctly guessed the final boss and what they did throughout the story, but I guess that would be pretty obvious by the time you're railroaded for the last few dungeons. I beat the final boss and am now on the epilogue, which is pretty neat. Apparently in new game plus all weapons can be raised to level 99, so there's that to look forward to as well.

Still getting around to finishing this game. I think I'm basically right at the end. Xenoblade seems like the longer game of the two, but I've been having fun. I think I know what's gonna happen in the end, though.

The Wii Mini, a $99 Wii just for Canada!
Thalzon replied to The Damned's topic in General Discussion
This is aimed directly at the Wii Sports/Wii Fit/Just Dance crowd. Best ignore it. -
http://mother4.andonuts.net/ Not official, but looking pretty nice regardless.

Guys, guys. GUYS. A full-fledged Find Mii RPG. (*o*)
-
I dunno. It doesn't look AWFUL, just weird.

The first guy talking in that video reminds me of the creepy blonde meme kid. Oh, and I didn't mention earlier but my Mii ID or whatever is Thalzon, of course.

I got mine yesterday and hooked it all up. System update took less than an hour, oddly enough. Said the server was busy partway through the download, but it installed without issue. Played some Nintendoland, which is actually a lot of fun and a real challenge! Fav game so far is F-Zero racing minigame, followed by Balloon Fight. Least fav is the yoshi cart. Fuck driving blind. Monita for Brawl. Also tried some Scribblenauts Unlimited. I played almost entirely on the little screen, which is a shame because the big screen is so bright, crisp, and beautiful. But it's fun and frustration failures are kept to a minimum, and the new level progression makes the world feel that much more alive, so it's all good. Gonna do a system transfer tonight and get all my Wii stuff on the system, then continue playing Last Story.

Gotta say I think Only Human is my favourite track, but this entire album is pretty awesome. Great work, guys.

My situation is a bit odd. I have a system preordered, but I preordered late so it might be two weeks before it arrives. However, the store I work at is getting 2 systems, so I've laid claim to one, and they'll get the one I preordered when it arrives. And yeah, getting the Deluxe system. Mario U is definitely on the agenda, as is Scribblenauts Unlimited and Rayman Legends.

3DS: Friend Codes on First Page, OMG THE THIRD DIMENSION
Thalzon replied to The Damned's topic in General Discussion
Oh god, I'm actually stuck on Paper Mario -- and it feels GREAT. -
It's a WiiU launch title? Might be worth getting, then.

Glad to see Xenoblade, Nier, and Lost Odyssey got mentions. All three are superb soundtracks. I'm gonna add and to that list. Very catchy songs in those collections.

Yeah, but it wasn't as robust. -

Dragon Quest games tend to have pretty standard overarching plots, but well thought-out and unique subplots. 7 has this in spades, as each region has its own subplot in the past, then you travel to the present and see the long-term effects of your actions. Additionally, Dragon Quest as a whole has some pretty creative enemy designs, and the way classes are structured means battles are rarely a waste of time. In DQ7 (and the remake of 6 on the DS) there is also a "party chat" feature, wherein your characters, if prompted by the player, will comment on damn near everything. They'll have something to say about almost any NPC, any location, any boss (it's usable in battle too), and so on. You can ignore it if you want, but it's pretty much 95% of your party's dialogue, so it's recommended you give them a listen every so often. In the original PS1 game, there were around 60-80 job classes. Most of them were monster classes (so, slime, zombie, lips, etc) and roughly 20 or so were "career" classes. Mastering certain jobs would also unlock combo jobs. For example, mastering Thief and Sailor unlocks Pirate, which has the stat bonuses of both and fewer drawbacks. DQ7 and 9 are my favourites of the series, so I'm definitely looking forward to this. -

It looks like the character models will actually change when equipping new jobs now. Which is AWESOME. They'll probably not have as many, though. Excluding all the monster job classes we're probably looking at around 20-30. Which is still plenty. -
@Annie Felis: Shirma, from Chocobo's Dungeon series.

Yeah, the final boss is supposed to be fought around level 80. He won't be able to hit you, much less beat you. Also leads to some narm in the cutscenes. The level 120 monstrosity requires a rather precise setup, since he does 100% spike damage. If you do attempt it, good luck.
