  1. notice how no one posted in this thread in eight months, until you brought it back from the dead? that might be a sign.
  2. you can replace as much ram as you want, but it won't run in triple channel - it'll just run single-channel, like it used to. you actually don't have to match sticks at all - they can be completely different speeds, and they'll all run at the same speed as the slowest stick in the computer. you might actually see a reduction in speed, since triple-channel makes a big difference in overall performance. i'd suggest waiting and doing it in sets of three, since then you get sets that are guaranteed to match (just in case they discontinue that set after you've got one or two sticks purchased). it'll be cheaper to buy in threes, and there's usually deals you can find that make it even cheaper.
  3. wait, people liked xenogears? i thought that was an interactive anime or something.
  4. you had a 403 Forbidden image in there yesterday, which was why i mentioned it.
  5. nice sig, dafydd. in other news, one of our artists decided to go to croatia or some other eastern european country and not tell anyone, so caleb's going to be working on his own for a while. as a whole, the artwork seems to be coming along swimmingly, and i had someone else ask about last battle (which appears to be this project's red-headed stepchild). it's also the last important track in the unclaimed list, so this is awesome!
  6. so, what was left to do on my track? i seem to remember you saying that you want a live guitarist. is there any way i can get around that thought? i kind of wanted this to be shreddage only.
  7. oh. that's good to know. i guess i'll change careers from what i'm already doing. actually, there's no reason that they couldn't use the design information - everything from AP and EXP trees to damage ratios - as is. they use the engine from FFXIII ( if you thought i actually meant FFVII's engine), just like they're doing for FFXIII Versus, and they remodel the artwork (a significant portion of which they can nab from FFXIII, since reusing stuff like boxes and buildings is done pretty often) and rerig the characters. as for those articles, if you really think that escapist magazine is a great reference for something like this, YOU have no concept of what you're talking about =) not to mention that the main reason they cited for not doing an FFVII remake was because "the art would take a long time". oh, wait - didn't i hear about square hiring like forty more modelers and riggers recently? yeah, i think i did. they weren't linked to any specific project, either. huh. you might want to be a bit more careful when you make blanket statements like that.
  8. ...or not, since stuff like the overworld and side quests is the entire point of the game. ff7 would be a relatively simple remake, mostly because the engine is already done. it's art and some basic programming, and voice acting. the design, which is a significant portion of the game's build time, is already done. so is the engine work.
  9. money's a good point. kinect costs 150$ plus games, for up to four people. the move costs 50$ a person, plus the eye, plus the glasses since everything's going to be 3D. that's WAY more money right there.
  10. i'm a little confused here. i read that the move is only going to cost 50$, and that's a big deal and that's why sony's presentation is so winrar. penny arcade put up an article that's pretty good, asking how much it'll cost after you've got a second controller, and the eye camera. that's about how much the kinect's going to cost, right? and, what about how expensive stereoscopic 3D glasses are? you'll need 2-4 pairs, probably, just to play with someone else. you get one with your tv if you buy it now. that's going to add up, too.
  11. halo 3 is quite cheap in a used game store. or rent it, it's not that long (and the multiplayer gameplay without the ODST multi disc is going to be poor). gears 2 has been one of my favorite shooters, thanks to the addition of horde mode. i'm sure gears 3 will continue that trend. fable 2 is excellent fun. it's long enough to merit a purchase, and costs about 20$ in most game stores. now that the arcade unit's 150$, used sale prices will drop precipitously. i already could get an arcade for 130$ before this that still had a manufacturer's seal, so i'm assuming that'll drop to around 110$ or so. 20-30$ for a used 20g hard drive (unless you aren't going to be getting downloadable games, most of which are only ok but there are some real jewels) and you're set. at this point, i'd be incredibly surprised if the new slims had any hardware issues at all, really. the biggest bane of these systems is heat, and it's completely gone. beyond that, you've got simple stuff like true hardware failure (which is very unlikely nowadays, 3-5% for modern consoles over 3 years), disc drive failure (around the same, probably 2-3% over 3 years), and stuff like that. i'm not foreseeing a lot of issues.
  12. this is where i start getting orders for systems. already got a few for sc2 when the beta came out, and i'm sure i'll get some for this too =)
  13. i agree. although, what's the #1 thing to fail on Wiis and PS3s? the slot loader itself. plus, when your media is so scratchable, it's easy to get some grit in there and fry disc after disc.
  14. that's a pretty shitty argument. how hard is it to not kick your 300$ entertainment computer? generally people don't kick their (expensive) TVs. can't you extend that to the console, too? not to mention kinect is wired on a 6-foot cable, so you can put the console off to the side.
  15. lulz when you figure it out, let me know. i've been wanting to play those games again, but even on the psp screen they look like ass =(
  16. holy shit MICROSOFT edit: thank god my new tv supports 3d. i'll definitely be utilizing that functionality with some of these games. twisted metal makes me very excited. too bad the move presentation was terrible - they were ADVERTISING that their motion controller had buttons. wasn't the whole point of a motion controller to NOT have buttons?
