does the ps1 memory card work for the ps3 slim?
prophetik music replied to Ascendancy's topic in General Discussion
there isn't any way to transfer the data from a ps1 card to a ps3 slim. you could use the transfer cable to transfer to a phatty, and then use a usb stick to transfer to the slim, but that's it. the slim doesn't have memory card slots at all. -
doesn't really increase costs that much. Lost Odyssey got a LOT of negative press about the 4-disc requirement, and by only shipping on three discs they technically are small enough for someone with a 20gb hard drive to install all three (you can't, because there's only around 13gb useable on the 20gb hard drives, but the numbers look good for dumb people). four discs - particularly since that'd mean that the videos were compressed less - pushes you to an install size nearing 24gb, which physically restricts you to the bastard 60gb systems and elites. DVD9 can technically hold 8.4gb, but the read speed lowers once you get farther and farther out along the edge. simple math, that - think of a bike wheel. the disc would have to spin faster in order to read the edges of the disc. most games stripe useless stuff out there, like the NXE install info and really long (and, in turn, buffered) cutscenes. those generally are the cutscenes that looked worse than others. crystal tools was made to be multiplatform for the specific purpose of bringing all of the FF games made on this generation of consoles to each system if they so chose. the engine is the reason that we didn't see FFXIII in early 2008, to be honest. i'm surprised anyone still thinks that any of these games WON'T be multiplatform. it's not like sony's paying them to keep it console-specific, like what MS is doing with Mass Effect.

not 3 gigs on each disc - three gigs total. the three discs, according to a quick google search, were 5.9, 5.8, and 6.6 gigs each. considering the largest standard size i've ever seen is 7.29 gigs (all wave-4 games are that exact size, 764 million and some change bytes), and the NXE dashboard stuff is about .20 of that, you're looking at around 3gb total 'extra' space. i'm fairly certain that the gap is a result of them spreading it around equally between each disc. also, i'm a 360 fanboy, but even i can't justify the terrible screen tearing in the uninstalled 360 version, particularly when that stuff was just streamed off the disc. really ridiculous.

as a member of a development studio for the 360, i have to refute the claim that the xbox doesn't have full HD. it does - and it actually is easier to implement than on the ps3 thanks to the ridiculously complex architecture the ps3 utilizes. the reason that most developers don't use it, though, is because the artwork and film is too costly - from a size perspective - to really work without the blu-ray disc. if you don't believe me, look at some of the new games that have just come out, like Red Dead Redemption. graphics are far better on the 360 version, but the game was lead developed on the PC (if i'm not mistaken). ffxiii could have been just as good from a visual quality. they chose not to, because it'd have taken six discs

thanks for reading the first post so i didn't have to reiterate the information there, brandon. that was very good of you, showing that you are worthy of your 2002 join date. -

my wife would be interested to know that. she's a vocalist, so she reads IPA like english. i'll pass it along. -
ff13 did well - not anywhere near as well as it did for the ps3 - on the 360. i think they'll take the plunge.

i lolled, too.

how do they pronounce it? remember that we're americans, and as such love our diphthongs (hence the ay). -
you didn't ring?

it's pronounced exactly how swedes would - linn-ay-uh. isn't it like the #2 name for girls every year in sweden? it's a flower. -
sony's software is trash. i'm using calibre (open-source ebook library and converter), and it's worked pretty well compared to the abortion that the Reader Library is. put about 300 pages of reading on it so far, reading the first of the Dragon Age novels. if you do what i did and load 400 ebooks on it at a time, be prepared for it to take forever to process everything properly. i had to let mine sit for over an hour before i could use it. also, sony's reader uses tags for the 'compilations' search function, so i had to go through and tag everything properly. don't bother using calibre's series functionality - just put the number of the book in the title, so you can find it later. also, the reader alphabetizes author's names by their first name. not the best choice, but whatever.

i picked it up but haven't played it yet. looking forward to it, though - i think i'll like blur better, but this one looks like crazy fun for now =)

an easy way to work with vibrato is to automate the depth of whatever LFO you're using to control it (depth = amount of either pitchbend or volume fluctuation you're using to create the vibrato effect). by automate, i mean ramp it up when you want vibrato, and ramp it to 0 when you don't need it. recording automation by just clicking and dragging is a good idea here - in fl, just hit the record button and control the level of the knob by turning it with your mouse when needed. i thought that was a little self-explanatory. did i miss something?

Help me identify this crazy sound
prophetik music replied to Rico's topic in Music Composition & Production
thunder sheets = thunder plates. depends what shape they're in - if they're free-hanging strips of metal, they're sheets. if they're strapped down on all sides (giving it a more pitched tone), then they're thunder plates. you might find an anvil also named a brake drum - being, literally, a drum brake from a car that's struck with the rounded head of a ball peen hammer or handle/shaft of a screwdriver. timpani in the other tracks don't sound like that because they're in a different range of the instrument. if we're talking about the same instrument (3 16th notes, starting at beats one and upbeat of two), then it's timpani we're talking about. -

cid's theme uses timpani. they just sound terrible. the thing in the turks theme is supposed to be thunder plates of some sort, i believe, or the cymbal equivalent (like a china trash or something), cut short. the thing in fighting is an anvil, a la song of the blacksmith. it's pitched down to make it ring longer. -

my wife dressed it up a bit to fit the larger size. posts aren't dated on purpose, so it's not immediately noticable when i forget to update them for a month =) RSS feeds are, though, of course. thanks for the props, guys =) -

as part of a class i took this semester, i designed a website for myself. i'm pretty happy with how it turned out. presenting: prophetikmusic.net! on my site, you'll find some information about myself, a regularly updated blog/newsroll, and (of course) lots of new music! there's a fully functional RSS feed from the site, too, so you don't have to visit every day to catch the new material as it's released. feel free to check it out, and let me know if something's not displaying properly in a browser. thanks, everyone! props to kanthos for the web advice and relyance for the basic design of the header (that my wife then modified for the site design). -
i'd like to read everything again a few more times. i'm particular when it comes to what i like and don't like, and that's why i tend to re-read books several times over the course of the years. anyways, i got it in the mail. i'm charging it now.

i know, idiot. i'm just saying that it was actually warranted here, instead of someone saying how they're dying of cancer and then someone either says that or tl;dr.
