What music/video streaming service should OCR use?
prophetik music replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
if it comes down to rendering video, there's awesome CUDA and GPGPU tech out there that'd cut that time by around 80-90%. and i'm sure that there are people who've got the latest and greatest around here who could help out with making them, too, particularly if they use either a graphics-accelerated program or a quad-enabled program. -
i thought it all fit in really well with the theme, i just wasn't down with it as much. i guess i'm just a happy person or something =)

hey, i hope this is good. systematic chaos was pretty damn dark, i wasn't into it as much. how hard is it to work in some major chords or not sing angrily on every song the whole time?
-
buy it from gamestop. you get a used psp-2000 (make sure it's 2nd gen, not first or third) and a charger for 140 bucks. the usb cable is another 10 or so, and a case is another 10. about as good as it gets. you're guarenteed a good battery that way too.

What music/video streaming service should OCR use?
prophetik music replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
since when have they allowed embedded links? when i was a member (i still am but i rarely visit the site anymore) you had to actually get on-site to listen to songs and they didn't allow you to listen unless you signed in or something equally stupid. -
What music/video streaming service should OCR use?

whoops, i read pandora above and used the wrong word as a result because it was on my mind. i meant to say thesixtyone, like what linkjing originally suggested. -

yeah, and then we'd go through our bandwidth for the month in about three days. soundclick isn't a good option, you have to sign up to access their bloatware-ish flash music player. if sites like [thesixtyone] won't work, and last.fm is out, there really isn't much else out there that'd offer what you need. i know that spotify doesn't work in certain countries, but would it be possible for pandora for the NA countries and spotify for things east of GMT? can aussies and asians get it? maybe a dual-provider solution is what you'd have to do, get someone to coordinate for different sites based on where they live. edit: darkesword pointed out that i said pandora when i meant something else. that something else is thesixtyone.com. -

i think that a writer would be interesting, but i think that D has to be my choice. simply because that's what i really want to do.

hey judges, i think avaris and i pm'd you about this three or four times a few months ago, but we pulled our mixes off of super dodge ball because it's been so long since anything happened. so you can move them to the normal post queue. thanks. and, larry, that interview thing that i was musicing for...it's STILL done.

i meant it more as a representative thing, i know paint doesn't save in .ico format, but you don't need a 500$ program to make them. and wait, are you saying that selling icons will make more money than making art with photoshop? or that enough people make icons to actually justify even having this argument? how the hell does that work? i'm not saying format compatibility is bad, but why would you go with a lesser version of a program just so you could get a few more somewhat esoteric filetypes? what i WAS pointing out is that you don't go into graphics design to work in the shitty free version of photoshop, you work WITH photoshop. can you imagine walking into a design firm and saying that you don't know photoshop, i just know gimp? they'll throw you out on your ass. it's like showing up as a musician to a gig and saying that you only know how to communicate by whispering, not talking. you still get the point across, but there's SO MUCH MORE out there that you can't take advantage of because you haven't taken the time to figure it out.

External Hard Drive "needs to be formatted"
prophetik music replied to Skummel Maske's topic in General Discussion
i used it as my torrent drive for a long time, but it gets warmer and warmer. i only switch it on for backup now. -
gimp isn't anywhere near photoshop. no offense, but who cares about .ico files? you don't make icons with photoshop, you make them with paint. you make high-end graphics projects that earn you money with photoshop.

i agree with this. we were basically required to have finale or sibelius during undergrad, but as musicians who have to buy upwards of six hundred dollars a semester in music (not to mention at least that much in books) when most of us don't have jobs, it's really tough to save up the cash for a program like that. and houghton didn't supply any sort of discount through a tech program of any kind.

$200 credit on purchase of a ps3 - no joke!
prophetik music replied to prophetik music's topic in General Discussion
again, like i said. pay cash for just about everything. my parents did it, my wife's parents did it. it's completely doable. also, like i said, the importance of credit scores are highly overrated. you can get by in life by just having what you need without buying on credit all the time. -
$200 credit on purchase of a ps3 - no joke!
prophetik music replied to prophetik music's topic in General Discussion
*shrug* i'd open it until i get my credit to my account, spend it, and then close it. four months, tops. credit scores are generated crap, anyways. if you hold down a job - any job - your credit will 'resurrect' itself within five years. it's all garbage to force you into doing things you wouldn't normally do. pay with cash, that's what i do - cash and debit cards. my wife has a credit card we use for gas and 'just-in-case', and that's it. -
$200 credit on purchase of a ps3 - no joke!
prophetik music replied to prophetik music's topic in General Discussion
well, since it's only a credit and not a chargeback, you could use that 200$ to buy games. in two months. -
http://gamerdeals.net/blogs/cheap-ps3/archive/2009/03/11/sony-offers-200-credit-on-349-purchase-w-sony-card-thursday-saturday-only.aspx you've gotta get approved (instantly) for a sony credit card. you get 200$ credit on any purchase over 349, including ps3s. there's a catch, of course - the 200$ isn't posted to your account for 8-12 weeks, and then it's only as a credit to the card, to entice you to buy more games. but if you can wait the 2 months for the credit, you'll get a ton of money back. it's only thursday through saturday. so, if you want one, get on it.

a friend of mine has a tri-monitor setup with a logi g5 mouse. you can change the sensitivity on the fly by hitting a button. he likes it. -
External Hard Drive "needs to be formatted"
prophetik music replied to Skummel Maske's topic in General Discussion
that's a good point. let vista attempt to 'fix' the drive and clean it up. there's a chance it'll fix it. probably not, but it's worth trying out. -
