  1. I used to use Media Player Classic with the FaxMactor Essential Codecs Pack. FaxMactor ECP has some beef with windows media player I guess, but it was able to run about 95% of all the videos I played. I've since switched to VLC. Although I haven't run across any incompatibility issues yet, the "fix avi" option is very nice. There's some seeking trouble though. Whenever I seek, the picture freezes in place and the audio is all that really seeks. The solution is to seek again, since it happens about 50% of the time. It's rather annoying though.
  2. This is a good point; but only fools think that the Law and what is Actually Right are always mutually exclusive.
  3. Sprout Procession? Big hint in the title; it's from Pokémon Crystal. The second one is original material all throughout. But I have the RSE instrument sets. They really don't sound very good, although it's much better than general midi (which is what would be used in place of RSE.)
  4. I don't yet have mixing knowledge or ability. Just theory. So with all of the electronica bias, I haven't bothered to submit yet. I'd love to try, though. I just need to familiarize myself with Cubase. If you want to hear a couple of tracks that I've made in Guitar Pro, you can listen at www.myspace.com/slygenaural I'm bad at percussion, too. Yes, this. But I figured if Phrygian was a foreign term, Ionian would be as well. Major key and Ionian are indeed mutually exclusive, as are minor key and Aeolian. I actually had to correct somebody on this website who specifically said that Aeolian and minor key were not the same. I can't remember where, but that made me rage, too. If you've got questions, I'll try to have answers. Feel free.
  5. That's contraband. It's right up there with child pornography and slandering the sidebar.
  6. You guys are getting music approved on this site and you don't even know simple keys? How do you know where your music is going to go? I rely on musical keys/modes as a guide. Norfair begins in the Phrygian mode. You'll notice the motif then becomes higher in pitch. It's a "real" transposition. The key changes. It starts in C Phrygian. (Whoever said C was always white keys made me rage.) It then moves to Eb/D# Phrygian. Yeah, Phrygian sounds "minor-ish" because Phrygian is the same as minor, except the second note is diminished. Phrygian.. .. well. It's certainly not ancient and lost. At the same time, it's not nearly as common as it should be. You want the key signature? It's the same as the minor-key signature of the same note, with that one added flat. There's an order to the sharps and flats, so just tack it on there and you'll have it. There's a system to this whole music biz. Example. C minor has three flats. E, A, and B. C Phrygian flats the two, which is D. Well the order goes BEADGCF. We already had BEA, and holy shit, D came next! So the motifs are all in Phrygian, and they progress like this: C, Eb, Gb, A. Then your descent happens in E Phrygian (all white keys, make note of that please.) This is all based on a midi I have, and this theme is one of my favorites. I'm pretty sure the midi is accurate. If, by chance, the midi varies, then you have a prime idea of a new direction to take the song. I don't think it does, though. Now that you know (some) of the keys that it's in, it'll be easy for you to add new material. Just crawl up and down that phrygian scale, throw a few leaps in there maybe. See if it sounds good. If not, rinse and repeat. There was one instance in your piece that I think I heard the Spanish-Phrygian scale used. Ah, yes, here at 1:10. The bass plays Bb, C, Db, C correct? But the Bb sounds like an augmented A, and then the C, and then the C# which would be in A Spanish-Phrygian. You want a new route to go with this piece? Throw that extra exotic flair in there. Wherever your third interval is, try augmenting that. It'll sound like you're in Arabia or Egypt. Cool shit. So, to put you both at ease. Like I said, starts in C Phrygian. The scale is as follows: C, Db, Eb, F, G, Ab, Bb, C. Yes, it has flats. Yes, it's in C (Phrygian). When the song moves to E, like I said, that is when it'll be on all white keys. That's why everyone associates E with Phrygian, C with Major, etc. Those are the tonics that utilize white keys only. (B! B! ) Also, Circle of Fifths/Fourths. If you want to move to a new key, you can usually move a fifth or a fourth away without disrupting the listener. Sometimes I like to move everything up a half-step to create suspense and tension.
  7. I'm afraid that if pilotings were to be remade, it would be heavily geared towards children. I haven't played Pilotwings 64, but.. it didn't look as enjoyable to such a wide audience as the original was. And yeah. Tank missions suck. But 64 had 'em. It was just extra incentive to go the red route. (Plus, the fact that Titania was part of the blue route makes me cry on the inside. not good times.)
  8. I guess I don't need to say anything here, huh? I don't get it, Carlos.
  9. Indeed, N64 emulation has a ways to go. For the games that do run at nearly-full capacity though..... .. .. well whatever. Piracy is bad. Don't do it and make no mistake; I was never advocating it.
  10. All the mentions of Ocarina of Time are making me rage. It would just be the same (mediocre) game, but prettier and refined. That, and OoT was not that special, ffs. I like the suggestions of the old 2D classics being re-made. There would be a vast improvement. The only thing, now there seems to be so much effort put forth towards a half-assed story these days. The 8 and 16 bit consoles pretty much just threw you into the game. You know you had to move forward and destroy shit, and it was great. If a remake were to happen, I would want that feeling to be preserved. One of the most rewarding aspect of remakes, to me, is actually the enhanced BGM. Music really brings games together for me. My favorite levels are often those with my favorite tunes. So with all of that in mind, I concur with the Sonic, Zelda 1-4, and GBC Pokémon suggestions (Reorchestrated Mount Silver, do fucking want). I actually felt more immersed while playing in 3D. Granted, I've only played Prime 1 and 2. Prime 1 pretty much threw your ass into the game and you knew you had to go forward and kill shit. It was neat, and it was proof that the concept still works. There really would have to be minimal storyline if a Super Metroid remake were to happen, so the same feeling of solitude would remain. Also, if you like atmosphere, part of that lies on you. You need to invest in the big TV and surround sound speakers if it's really important. I know that's not practical for the original Super Metroid (although playing it really loud sounds like a good time to me), but for a high-def game, it would definitely enhance the experience. Super Metroid could become exponentially more atmospheric and immersive with the stuff we have now.
  11. Come on. A game stops being manufactured, and retailers don't have it? Don't sit with your thumb up your ass; they're just asking you to load up Project64. Same thing goes for other games. FF VII and Chrono Trigger being sold at prices higher than MSRP like they're damn antiques, and dangling the idea of a VC release to the point of blueballs? Fuck that.
  12. I read on Wikipedia that it received unenthusiastic reviews, but that it was hyped up quite a bit. I'd never heard of it, though, until yesterday. I'll see if I can find some trashy reviews later; I'm curious to know what people complained about.
  13. A friend of mine showed me this game yesterday. It's fucking revolutionary. Anyone else played it? It's got the strategic aspects that make an RPG great, but also requires that the player be attentive and have some dexterity due to the 8-way run semi turn-based style. And it's for the Nintendo 64. I guess it was one of the last releases before the system became obsolete. Plus, it's not dumb swords and potions. This one fucker grabbed me by the neck and chucked my ass over his shoulder. After round-housing his gut, I learned how to do that same neck throw at the end of the fight. You've also got choices of defense, including stepping your ass out of the way (not based on chance), instead of just sitting there like a dumbass a la Final Fantasy. The battles are kinda like Star Ocean and Tales of Symphonia, except, you know, not the same Japanese shit I'm sick of. It's like children; too many of them, the good games often get neglected, and half of them all look the same.
  14. Fair enough. Looking forward to the completion of this project; make it a good one.
  15. A lot of blue-collar jobs are "at will" labor, which means that you AND the employer have the right to terminate your position at any time. As far as demotions, I'm not sure if that's considered terminating the original position or not. The thing is, once shit hits the fan, that's when people get all huffy and don't realize they were warned ahead of time.
  16. I hope you understand that if these threads become regulated, it will be entirely the fault of both of you. I haven't even heard of fusion2004p, or seen the OP anywhere. Come on. "Honestly, some people," is right.
  17. I always read it as Jolly Rancher Bay as a kid. so delicious.
  18. They're all great, irregardless of your musical taste > </site philosophy> Uh, I think Dhsu said a while back he doesn't like to suggest himself when people come looking for piano mixes. you're welcome. edit: search Noir. And get Avien's "Noumenon" from Relics of the Chozo.
  19. Listening now. The transition felt smooth as silk to me. Nice. At the end, I personally would still like to hear more of that first underwater theme (I mean in terms of duration). The instruments, however, are great now. But I'd love it if you milked all of the minor-key beauty out of the underwater theme. Perhaps try repetitions coming to crescendo, or something, make it dramatic to the point of chills. Or not- it really is a good, chill track as it stands. I feel like I'm trying to write your track for you, which I shouldn't do.
  20. Hey Damned, it was either you or Prophet who I sent a PM. I decided to try my hand at a Sprout Tower mix as just something for myself. Whatever link I sent is pretty old by now, and the composition of that track has come a long way. I can link you to it if you like. I noticed you said you didn't want any new track artists due to a lack of effort, but I figured I'd mention it because I already have a modest piece done. If you'd like to consider including it as part of this project, let me know.
  21. I'm listening to Shimmering Scales. from 0:00 to 1:20 absolutely radiates passion to me. I love the arrangement. The transition to the Zora Villiage theme feels a little abrupt to me. Then again, the two sources are actually very different in sound. When you go back to the underwater theme at 2:50, I'd really love to hear all of the instruments come back in full force. The strings, the piano, the synth whistle, everything. 0:00 to 1:20 is very strong and passionate, and at 2:50 it seems to pale in comparison. At the very end, I see the strings move out of the minor mode. Personally I dislike it, but I'm generally part of the minority as far as that's concerned. Good track. I like it quite a bit. I can't wait to see how this project turns out in the very end.
  22. I figured I should jump back in here and say your WIP is still on my desktop (and playing right now). So, please do continue your work on this one. I eagerly await an update.
  23. If you're talking about an mp3, the short answer is no. Try to find a midi of the song you're talking about. If you have a midi, there are multiple programs that can put it to staff paper, although in my experience, midi's are created in such a way that the staff paper ends up looking like garbage. I actually spend a lot of my time importing garbage midi's and cleaning them up to readability. --> in b4 move.
  24. No "favorite ..." threads.... unless they're relevant to Darkesword's interests
  25. This guy knows more about site happenings and resources than some of the people who've been posting for years.
