Learn your history and stop spreading lies, k thx bye. Wow. Did you seriously join just to post that? You need to work on your diplomacy. A simple "actually, that's not quite righ: here's why" in the project or feedback thread would have been plenty, and we probably would have taken you far more seriously. But if you're just gonna come in like a crazed monkey and sling shit all over the place, expect to be treated like a troll. Not that I'm calling you a troll or anything.... Learn your history and stop spreading lies, k thx bye. The soundtrack contained music by Erol Otus who had already been working in the industry professionally for some time and had been credited on multiple games by then, including the original Star Control. A list can be found at http://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,318/ Also, considering he's credited as a writer for the game, I think that'd exclude him from the "fan" category. However, since you point out an interesting bit of history - albeit in a very trollish fashion - it's worth mentioning that we used the word "completely" for a REASON. While you are 100% correct that SC2's soundtrack included work by fans, it ALSO included work by some of the game's developers, namely Erol Otus. Correct us if we're wrong about that; otherwise you're the one lying, no?
big giant circles
Wikipedia sez Star Control II: The Ur-Quan Masters is a science fiction computer game, the second game in the Star Control trilogy. It was developed by Toys for Bob (Fred Ford and Paul Reiche III) and originally published by Accolade in 1992 for PC; it was later ported to the 3DO with an enhanced multimedia presentation, allowed by the CD technology. The game still enjoys a cult following. You must be one of those guys lol
djpretzel
Well, just to clarify, SC2 WAS pretty badass, had great music, and we're not trying to poop on it with our press release about HD Remix, but in my opinion, it was different enough (competition, developer also worked on it) from what we did here that we weren't stretching the truth. DusK
Well, it also says HD Remix is "the first major video game with a completely fan-made soundtrack." Everyone's heard of Street Fighter II, but what the hell is Star Control?

Liontamer
Well, it also says HD Remix is "the first major video game with a completely fan-made soundtrack." Everyone's heard of Street Fighter II, but what the hell is Star Control? Could you guys not diss Star Control? You don't need to tear down what's being compared to just to defend our statement. That's just stupid. We have some awesome mixes of Star Control II from Mark Vera who worked on The Ur-Quan Masters: http://www.ocremix.org/game/star-control-ii-win/ Also someone mentioned Castle Crashers in the Digg comments, and again that's why we used "major". Castle Crashers is still awesome. It sold like hotcakes, got great reviews, and had a Newgrounds-based soundtrack (Tom Fulp developed the game). The only difference was that it was an independent game, not a major publisher's title. That doesn't take away from the strength of that game either. But when we said we made history, we didn't just pull it out of thin air. We made sure to be specific with the achievement here.
kitty
I don't think he meant to diss Star Control. I had the same reaction because I actually DON'T know what Star Control is/was. Same thing with Castle Crashers. Everyone seems to be on edge these days or something...
big giant circles
I'd never heard of Star Control either. No disrespect Larry, but that was kind of my first impulse as well. It's like comparing some independent film to a major motion picture. I wager a lot more people know what Street Fighter is than Star Control. No disrespect for Star Control, of course, just stating the level of familiarity, which is what most people are going to base the adjective "major" on. Liontamer
No one's on edge but the original poster, but there's a way of phrasing things. "What the hell is Star Control?" vs. "I've never heard of Star Control"
OverCoat
What about a game like Unreal where people like Basehead or Necros worked on certain songs? Does that count as fan-made music? I always wondered what the story was with how they got their music in the game. Probably because they were friends with Siren [aka Alexander Brandon] or something
DusK
'Twas a joke, Liontamer. I was referring to the obvious fact that Star Control is not nearly as well known as Street Fighter.
