Quartet 'Summer Trance'

The way this starts out reminds me of the intro music to some show I watched when I was little, but I can’t remember what it was… Anyways, this mix is in a quick paced dance style tune. The percussion is good, and the main lead and melody are also pretty cool. It’s a fun tune, and if I were more energetic I might feel like getting up and dancing. Fun! 3/5

This song makes me soooo happy. :D:) It's the beat, coupled with the slow growth into catchy, eye-twitch-inducing 80's video game melody. My lullaby.

I listen to it every night while I play Disgaea -- it strangely comes up almost always as the last song on my mix CD, which is around 2 am, maybe 3. And I always hope it'll be last, because after that I'll lose interest in the CD and will probably end up falling asleep.

HIGHLY recommended to those who want to relive the glory Sega Master System days, and for those who have an eye on future club music. It's like, beat-driven town music.

With just three tracks on OCR, U-ji has made it as one of the absolutely best trance artists I have ever heard.

I really mean that too. The moment your Zillion mix [the first one I listened to] had hit its climax, I knew you had some exceptional skills.

The other two tracks he remixed were no disappointment. He certainly have his own unique style when it comes to trance, and it's a shame that his remixes are so widely overlooked for the sole reason that the source material is pretty obscure. It's also sad that he's only submitted three remixes and hasn't been heard from again. Had he done more widely known games and tunes [like the Hero Garden from Sonic Adventure 2 *cough*hint*cough*] then I'm sure he would have gained much more praise for his exemplary skills.

Pretty well done and uplifting trance, productionwise it is a little mid-heavy, but there is plenty of creative elements moving the mix forward, and the source tune is excellent. The drums have enough flourishes sprinkled throughout to keep the beat fresh, and there are several additional sections added for a potential transition to the DJ's next track

This is one track i've actually had on my playlist for several years but really hasn't gotten much love, so relistening have brought it back out into the open.

Highly recommended for trance fans.

Trancey indeed. The downward arpeggio thing at the beginning is cool, but a bit too long for me. That's somewhat a characteristic of the genre, so I can't fault, but it's too much for my liking.

The melody reminds me of Top Gun. I have no idea why. Very 80's, and a lot of fun.

We go back to the arpeggiated thing again, and it continues as before. Same comment as above, though if I focus more on the bass line it's not as bad.

It's a fun track, but I'm not overly crazy about it.

Whoa, 6 minutes!

So as far as I can tell, the main thing holding back this mix are the samples and production overall. The arrangement itself is pretty nifty for a trance piece - I can't say that I was really bored throughout the 6 minutes of listening, as they passed by pretty quickly with what is a pretty solid mix despite its issues.

I have a soft spot for this one, and mixes like it. Very simple in nature; a pretty much cookie-cutter trance conversion of a retro tune. I can definitely see a lot of derision in what's here, but it just so happens that I'm a bit of a fan of trance, which does this mix a fairly big favour.

There's nothing glowing I can say about this. The samples sound bland today, and the little new ground it covers won't enlighten anybody if it hasn't done so already. But I get a lot of enjoyment out of simplicity, making it pretty hard to resist its sole ambition to get you in the dancing mood. For this reason, I've kept it close by for a long time, just in case I need a boost in dancitude.

I'm one of the few ppl lucky enough to grow up with Sega instead of Nintendo as a kid; and I'm grateful I was exposed to Sega's great games with awesome soundtracks... especially Quartet!

Man! Just hearing that arpeggio got me pumped up to tear through that first level :)

And adding the trance drum beat in the background only makes it that much more fun. :-P

It might take a little too long to end, but overall I really like this mix. One thing that keeps bringing me back to it, though, is a weird similarity to another song. It might be just me, but the bridge (it starts at 2:47 or so) is reminiscent of a similar bridge in Sonic Adventure's Twinkle Circuit - the one that remixes Sonic's theme, "It Doesn't Matter". I checked the source chiptune, and it's definitely present in the original, so it's probably just a total coincidence...but does anyone else hear that?

Happened across this tune on shuffle and 12 seconds into the song I got goosebumps and knew I had heard this melody somewhere before, but I couldn't put my finger on it and it drove me mad. After going through my archive in vain I went to look up and listen to the original song from the game and then it struck me, it's the synth solo from Jump by Van Halen. So awesome.

Overall I think this is a nice remix with an upbeat and very chip-ish feel to it. Especially with the slightly repetitive melody and the way it goes on forever but without ever feeling too boring thanks to it being such a catchy melody. It does lose a bit at the end when it goes full out trance but that's just personal preference I guess.
