Flexstyle Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Hey all, I'm currently livestreaming over at http://twitch.tv/flexstyle if you wanna catch some work-in-progress for the Balance and Ruin album. Hopefully I'll be livestreaming over there a lot more, just workin' on stuff, so join me if you can! Quote
WiFiSunset Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Edit: Never Mind. I'm watching this right now . Quote
Esperado Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 I think watching others work is an excellent way to improve your own skillset. I missed this one, but hope you livestream more! Quote
Brandon Strader Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 (edited) I missed this one You didn't, you can still watch it here: http://www.twitch.tv/flexstyle/b/387173404 Enjoy the stream. Edited April 6, 2013 by Brandon Strader Quote
Modus Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 I learned about gate cutoffs combined with heavy reverb and such for a controlled but massive snare, kick, etc. That was thanks to Ecto's question. "Evil tails" Hehe, nice stream Flex, thanks again. Quote
WiFiSunset Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 (edited) I learned a lot by watching as well , and I'm beginning to find my workflow between DAW and Notation (Musescore). (exporting .wavs, and midis to the DAW). Edit: Also, The Reverb .wavs helped with the String sounds as well. Edited April 6, 2013 by Cosmic Sounds Quote
timaeus222 Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 I work on my mixing first and arrangement later, as well. Quote
Flexstyle Posted April 6, 2013 Author Posted April 6, 2013 Glad this one went over so well! I'm going to try and do these a lot more often, so stay tuned on my Facebook page (link in my signature) or here in this thread for the next time I do one. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions here ahead of time so that I can answer 'em in another session. Quote
WiFiSunset Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Any issues from my track that you think that I need to learn, which is probably a lot . All partial joking aside . How do you prevent your track from being too soft in volume? While keeping the instruments clear and audible. Was this an issue in the .wav I sent you? Quote
Phonetic Hero Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 How do you prevent your track from being too soft in volume? While keeping the instruments clear and audible. Whew, now isn't *that* the question in this day and age Quote

Handling the dynamic range is a basic task in mixing/mastering. Search for articles on "compression" or "limiting." Quote
OceansAndrew Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 the track is being handed off to me, so I am going to try to get a setup going so i can stream as well, and keep the fun going! Quote
Nutritious Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 the track is being handed off to me, so I am going to try to get a setup going so i can stream as well, and keep the fun going! Hah, Andrew, I was thinking the same thing (he's handing it to me next). Not sure I would be able to stream at a reasonable time of day, though. Maybe I'll just record it? Quote
Mirby Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 All y'all are just copyin' Ben Briggs with this, don't lie. Not that it's a bad thing but STILL ;P Quote
Brandon Strader Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 (edited) All y'all are just copyin' Ben Briggs with this, don't lie.Not that it's a bad thing but STILL ;P I dunno, I watched Zircon remix Setzer for the FF6 album before Briggs ever started streaming music, maybe even before he streamed games, and I'm sure zircon wasn't the first to do it either. BUT I love that people are doing this now, and I want to get in on it myself, who knows when. But watching OA's bald head and rippling abs live stream some music making will be awesome. (How is OA not a main character in a game? He's got the body for it) EDIT: Tropes vs. OA in ReMixing Edited April 8, 2013 by Brandon Strader Quote
Mirby Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 wow this time i even put a wink and you still took it seriously incredible that said, i eagerly await updates on this. Quote
Brandon Strader Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Eh? Well I mean, I like to think of these things in terms of OCR. And I probably overthink it. I know people did that kind of stuff waaaaay before anyone here. I JUST NEEDED AN EXCUSE TO POST! This is me and OA But yeah, I do hope more people live stream stuff... music.. I would watch that. It could aid in learning stuff too. Is good stuff. Quote
Theory of N Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Yeah, I'd probably be too ashamed of my work habits to stream live. Quote
Level 99 Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Yeah, I'd probably be too ashamed of my work habits to stream live. Just because you have all those Cho Aniki posters up doesnt mean you shouldn't livestream. Quote
OceansAndrew Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 did some testing and i got it all good to go, i am thinking tomorrow night will be streamtime! something like 8pm EST at http://www.twitch.tv/oceansandrew Quote
Argle Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I JUST NEEDED AN EXCUSE TO POST! Weren't you ready to leave a few days ago? Anyway, if you like these streaming things, why don't YOU do one? Quote
Brandon Strader Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Weren't you ready to leave a few days ago? Anyway, if you like these streaming things, why don't YOU do one? It's the zombie apocalypse, you gotta be ready to get up and go at a moment's notice. As far as streaming the musics, all I know is my gut says maybe. Quote
OceansAndrew Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 one problem with the mac streaming is that i dont get the little webcam picture in picture, so im not sure how to do that. if anyone has a mac solution, let me know. Im using camtwist running through the adobe flash live encoder and it works good, but being able to see me record my guitar parts instead of just hearing seems more fun. Quote
OceansAndrew Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 (edited) http://www.twitch.tv/oceansandrew it was pretty fun! I am ordering 24g of extra ram tonight so i dont have memory issues next time! I had a lot of fun with you guys, and will be streaming in the future either for this, or for upcoming Overclocked University songs! Thanks for being there! Edited April 10, 2013 by OA Quote
OceansAndrew Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 c-c-combo post! (sorry shariq!) got the ram, and I am considering doing some streams in the future for OverClocked University songs. WOuld be a good way to preview what we have coming up as a band if you are interested. Quote
