Nintendeath
I guess Donkey Kong Country stages are out of the question? Is that Rare territory? I'm not sure. Nope, anything DK related is Nintendo's, including DKC. Anything created by Rareware associated with Donkey Kong or Starfox became the property of Nintendo, even if Rare moved elsewhere. So characters like K. Rool and Krystal are totally viable for SSBB, and I comletely expect to see them... Meh, they already have Fox and Falco...they don't need Krystal too IMO. That'd be terrible, having Krystal in SSBB...who's next? Slippy? lol Really? I think Krystal would be great. Give her the staff with its rocket boost, fire and ice abilities, and the earthquake, and she'd be awesome. But I agree, leave Slippy out.

I am kinda curious how open companies like Namco would be to selling rights to a character like him... I don't really think it'd be a good idea, but it'd be funny to have Leon from Resident Evil 4 . It'd just be ridiculous .

Pfft. If you hate Krystal because of perverts, you haven't seen that much Peach fanart, have you? Besides, give Krystal her assault outfit and the staff. Hector
For extra characters, I think they should handle as many as possible as being same characater, different "costume". If Nintendo goes for as many characters as possible, many of them will be slightly altered clones and will seem ridiculous. Marth & Roy are great, but I don't feel like also having Eliwood and Ephraim's sister added to the mix. SSB has a higher tolerance for more characters then other games simply because of what it represents, but that tolerance does not allow too much more flexibility (and the general rule is each character can have one near clone). FiremanJoe
So make Dr Mario just an alternate costume for Mario? That would be pretty good, come to think of it. A few different iterations of Link in one character; pick a costume before the match. Saves space on the character select screen, each costume can be slightly different (OoT and TP Links, Samus and Zero Suit, etc).

She uses a laser sword in the video and is incapable of rolling into a ball. She'll be a completely different character with new moves. She can't be a costume... Clarification: you don't sell the rights to Nintendo, you grant the permission to use the character in one game, like Nintendo gave permission to Square-Enix to make Super Mario RPG (which is why Geno and Mallow probably won't show, since they're SE characters... though it would be really, really cool). Also, for sheer ridiculous out-of-placeness, Solid Snake already fits the bill.

Krystal most likely will be in, and have the staff; but I want to see Fox use the staff, maybe as an alternate version of him (akin to Zero Suit Samus). Just to put out a question... how many series do Nintendo own in a position similar to that of DK & Starfox? That is, how many more sortof-2nd-party series could they put in? I have a feeling that that's the first route they're gonna go to expand.

genghisdani
Sorry is this is more old news, but Nintendo Power has confirmed that more Super Smash Bros. Brawl characters will be unveiled in the July 2006 issue.Of course, I got that information from the Wikipedia article, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt. That's not true. Note: Volume 205 is the July issue; words in bold were highlighted (for whatever reason) in the original bulletin. Nintendo's new-generation console, Wii, lived up to the hype and continued to generate even more buzz at E3, where Nintendo announced the new Super Smash Bros. Brawl among other Wii titles. In Volume 205, we have the first look at Smash Bros. and reveal some characters new to the series-it's well on its way to being an amazing game! This issue is packed with other Wii insights and hands-on game impressions. Knowing NP, I dare say that they only plan to reveal everything we already know. If you were planning on subscribing just for this issue, don't. If you really want it, go down to your local game store and just buy this issue, but I'm pretty sure they'll only tell us about Pit, Meta Knight, Zero Suit Samus, Wario, & Snake. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by that question, but this is where the Rare developed Dk and Fox games stand in terms of ownership. Nintendo owns all properties and characters in every DK and Starfox game, even those developed by Rare. Even characters Rare created in association with DK or Starfox became the property of Nintendo. This is why you still see characters like Diddy and Krystal appearing in Cube games, with no credit given to Rare. In fact, at the end of all the DK games and Starfox Adventures, you see the message after the credits, "All copyrights, including those of game, scenario, music, and program reserved by Nintendo." I believe the same applies to Mallow and Geno, even though Square made them. They were created in association with Mario, and Geno even made a small cameo in Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga for GBA during a minigame. I think they're fair game for SSBB characters. Nintendeath
Custom Robo, Pikmin, Chibi Robo, and future franchises like hammer and that surviving game thingy for Wii. You're right about all those except for Chibi Robo. Chibi Robo was a third party game, not produced or developed by Nintendo. The others are all, in fact, first-party games, made and or published by Nintendo, like you said. I want to see Jill from Drill Dozer in SSBB. Incorrect; you forgot who made Superstar Saga: Square-Enix. Geno and Mallow stand no chance of getting in unless SE gives NIntendo permission to use them; regardless, they stand a much better chance than most every FF character, simply because they fit better. JoeFu
Incorrect; you forgot who made Superstar Saga: Square-Enix. Wrong game!! Super Mario RPG was the Square game. SE had nothing to do with the Mario and Luigi games. But if they did add Geno and Mallow, that would be pretty awesome. With that said, I really don't care who they add, as long as they are kinda cool. Make them memorable. I would really like to see the twins from FE:SS and just have them replace Marth and Roy or something. A spear user would be pretty cool in that game. Ike could replace either of them too. So I don't think it's as simple as you're making it sound. Seems like not only do the companies need to be willing to whore out their characters, but the price would need to be right. I agree Snake came outta left field to be in SSBB. That reminds me of http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?.
