sgx Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Has anyone seen Stardust? I don't usually come out of the theater thinking to myself, "Man, I really want to see that again before it comes out on DVD," but I did with this movie. It is just a genuinely fun and hilarious movie. I think I was smiling or laughing basically the whole time watching it and it got a big reaction out of the (only 20 or so) other people in the theater with me. I dragged along some of my male friends that aren't usually into that fantasy stuff but they got a huge kick out of it too. It's been compared to The Princess Bride a bit - the plot isn't really like that, but I'd say the tone - lighthearted fantasy + comedy is similar. It is fantasy targeted at adults, but it isn't dark. It was really refreshing stuff! Plus I think Claire Danes is super cute. mmmm hmmmm. Go see it if you haven't. Who else has seen it? Quote
DarkeSword Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 I saw it last night and I thought it was really awesome. Not superomgamazingawesome, but still awesome. The comedy throughout the entire movie was a riot. It was a nice change from the epic dark LotR-style fantasy that Hollywood is so keen on shoving down our throats. It felt like a return to old-school fantasy movies. Also, Michelle Pfeiffer is one of the most beautiful women in the world, and is pretty damn gorgeous for most of the movie; too bad things ended up the way they did. Definitely gonna get it when it comes out on DVD. Quote
djpretzel Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Two solid endorsements... I'm sold. Comparisons to PB set high expectations, but I'll be open-minded.... Quote
DarkeSword Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Prepare to be open minded. A lot of critics have raised very valid points about why the movie isn't awesome. Go in with low-expectations and just enjoy it for what it is. Quote
The Pezman Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Is it based on any previous book or other form of media? Nearly every movie this summer has. Quote
Atomicfog Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Yeah, I saw it on opening day -- excellent movie. I highly recommend seeing it. Quote
Imagist Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Is it based on any previous book or other form of media? Nearly every movie this summer has. Originally a book by Neil Gaiman. That's why it's good. Quote
I-n-j-i-n Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Waiting for a Bluray/HD-DVD/DVD release. Or on Satellite. Quote
Spooty Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I was kind of intrigued to see it. Maybe I will now.. I think I might read the book, though instead, first. Quote
tgfoo Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Another endorsement here. I was one of the friends sgx dragged to see it. I kinda was interested in seeing, but I probably wouldn't have if he hadn't invited me to go along. Definitely glad I did. Also, De Niro's character in the movie, amazing. Quote
OptimusShr Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Just saw it. An excellent movie. I have to read the book now. Quote
big giant circles Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Damn. I saw the preview on apple.com/trailers a while ago--and I had since completely forgot about it. I'm definitely up to see it--it looked really cool. Thanks for the reminder. Quote
Darth Lime Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 I've heard quite a lot of praise for this film. One of the most original films of the year. I hope to see it soon before it leaves theatres. Quote
The Pezman Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 I wouldn't have known about it had I not seen advertisements in the city. Quote
EdgeCrusher Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 I went with my fiancee and a friend cause they are both big fantasy movie fans. I don't normally like them, but this was really enjoyable. I suggest you guys go see it. Quote
