DarkeSword
Anyone else pick this up? For those of you not in the know, Sin & Punishment is a Japanese N64 game that was just released on the Wii Virtual Console today. In the US (I believe it's also available in Europe). I bought it as soon as I got home from work (costs about $12). So far it's pretty good, as is typical for a shooter by Treasure. It's also really hard, but I think that's just because I'm getting used to the slightly weird control scheme. Thoughts?
Strike911
<3 this game. Been wanting it ever since I saw it previewing in Nintendo Power YEARS ago... saw a friend with a rom of it, but always wanted to play it on a real system. It's like StarFox and Gunstar Heroes mixed together. What's not to love?! That's right. Nothing. I love Treasure. I really do.
Moseph
Haven't gotten it yet, but I'm going to. I've wanted to play this game ever since I read about it on IGN way back in the day.
yangfeili
Gotta love Nintendo's added "import fee" to their already inflated VC prices. Because, you know, it costs an extra 20% to send that ROM all the way from Japan.
eag86
I've heard about this game coming out earlier this morning. Never heard of it so i looked it up and it looks good. Would love to play it but don't have a wii.
BardicKnowledge
Nintendo actually put in some work on S&P, so I understand the raised price (translated menus and tutorials). The SMB2 game though is probably the .nes rip -- I doubt if they took the time to convert it from the FDS format before sending it our way (and I don't think Nintendo's NES emulator inside the Wii will play raw FDS in any case). Less Ashamed Of Self
I thought this was a fairly unknown game. Glad to see that isn't the case... cause it's very badass. I'm probably gonna make sure it gets downloaded on our house's VC very soon. ... BTW; what happened to mother 2 coming out for VC? I thought that was like a guarantee. Yoshi3gg
I want this game SO bad. But I have no wifi in my dorm room. Gonna have to look into buying a router or Nintendo's overpriced USB thingy.
Dopple Boppler
I walked an hour to and from Wal-Mart to get some Wii Points just for this game and now the Wii Shop Channel is going horribly slow. It's been trying to download the game for close to an hour now, and poor little Mario is just constantly running and running. And now I am a sad Boppler. DarkeSword
Well I played some more and I'm happy to report that after getting used to the control scheme, this game totally rocks my socks. Graphics are great for an N64 game, and running on a Wii certainly doesn't hurt it either.
Guy In Rubber Suit
I played this game a while ago on an emulator running on the N64 and it was pretty awesome. So for the VC did they translate everything, only some of the game or nothing at all for Sin & Punishment?
Imagist
I want this game SO bad. But I have no wifi in my dorm room. Gonna have to look into buying a router or Nintendo's overpriced USB thingy. I got a router for $2 after rebates. Not saying $2 is common, but you can usually find routers that will do the job pretty cheap (cheaper than a USB thing that's not nearly as versatile anyway) if you look closely. So for the VC did they translate everything, only some of the game or nothing at all for Sin & Punishment? The menus and the tutorial were translated, afaik. The spoken dialogue was all originally in English anyway, but they left the subtitles in Japanese. So I guess you could say it's extremely "import-friendly." Dhsu
I'm glad this game is finally getting the exposure it deserves, as it indeed rocketh mine socks. Things like this make me very excited for the future of VC, and I hope this is a sign of many more imports to come.
Devyn
Gotta love Nintendo's added "import fee" to their already inflated VC prices. Because, you know, it costs an extra 20% to send that ROM all the way from Japan. I'm betting that it covers the cost of translation. I'm betting that you're also right because Nintendo are as greedy as a tanned blonde driving a Hummer.
Penfold
So despite having too many games to play as it is, I'm becoming more and more tempted to get this game (also, considering if they bring in a lot of money via their "import genre," Nintendo will be more likely to localize more games that never saw the light of day here...here's hoping for Radical Dreamers and maybe some previous installments of Nintendo Wars and Fire Emblem). Anyway, just curious how you all would rate this game (since if it goes highly recommended, I may just have to put my other VC games on hold for the time being in favor of this). (EDIT: like on a scale of 1 to 10, where would you place it and why?) I'm also finding the debates about the increased cost of the import genre pretty funny, like they really need to justify a $2 increase . Neo Samus
Honestly it's worth the $12 price tag. As long as you like shooters. Plus, $12 for a VC is nothing to sneeze at. Looking on eBay the actual game runs about $40+. So quit complaining.
Dhsu
That's what I like about the VC business model. Sure, most of the games cost more than the physical copies, but they're balanced a little by stuff like this that can save you a considerable amount of cash.
