  1. Pleasantly surprised by this news. Welcome back, VGMix!
  2. Agreed. Changed the title of this thread to reflect the confusion.
  3. Must've jumped the gun or mis-interpreted the announcement. Here's the full quote from their Facebook: "We are very excited to announce that the critically acclaimed video game remix community, OverClocked Remix, have come on board to create a unique and utterly amazing score & soundtrack for Final Fantasy VII: The Web Series!! Founded in 1999, OverClocked ReMix is an organization dedicated to the appreciation and promotion of video game music as an art form. Its primary focus is www.ocremix.org, a website featuring thousands of free fan arrangements, information on game music and composers, resources for aspiring artists, and a thriving community of video game music fans. OC ReMixers have contributed to AAA titles like Mass Effect 2, Soulcalibur V, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Super Meat Boy, and more. We are still working with the artists to bring them all on board, but we can tell you today that we have secured the talent of artists who created the best remix to date..." Maybe it means that some of the remixers from VotL are on board in an individual basis, creating all-new original music for the web series?
  4. Browsing through that video now. Man, you guys are solid! Especially loving that Wave Race track. It doesn't get mixed/played live very often if not at all.
  5. I just got this bit of news from the official Facebook page of FF7: The Movie, or as they're calling it now, the web series. Apparently, OCR remixers are collaborating with the makers for the web series for music! Whether or not some of it is ripped straight out of VotL is still confusing to me. Cool stuff. Looking forward to it. The trailer they put out awhile back was well-directed.
  6. I've been looking around on YouTube since MAGfest began and ended for live performances by OverClocked University. I also sort of expected an OCR track post by them during MAGfest, too. I can't find anything. So did the live band perform or am I just not looking at the right places? Hopefully anyone here can redirect me to some videos.
  7. Badass! Love it. There's a lot of original music from the SSB series which has been unfortunately overlooked, Polygon Team Theme included. I love how this has been interpreted. Excellent combination of rock/techno elements. It's very progressive rock-esque. Kind of reminds me of the music of the F-Zero series in some ways.
  8. Really well done. The guitar/whistling combo truly captures the spirit of the Farm track and environment in FF7. The lead-in to Gold Saucer is pretty seamless, too.
  9. LOL. Yeah, no pressure. That doesn't sound like a hard job at all. I didn't pay attention to the names, hence my cluelessness.
  10. To be fair, the write-up talked about the mixing and mastering by Mr. Wise so I didn't guess that. I did guess the sax part though....because I remembered that he had a track on the DKC2 album with live sax. So good to confirm that for me here. Are you part of the band by any chance?
  11. Wow. Just...wow. Just when I thought I picked my favorite track of the album upon my first listen (Sea Breeze Concerto) this gem comes along. A 9 minute epic. Never grows old and repetitive despite its length. All the playing and instruments just come together nicely here. The haunting violin and vocals, the subtle guitars, the atmosphere and ambiance of this mix -- everything is very well produced and written. Personally, this beats Spanish Jitters as the best collab of the album. Great work.
  12. First off, congrats on getting this epic piece of work out the door. I intentionally shut myself of any spoilers or developments of the project to hype myself up. Admittedly, DKC3 is the soundtrack I least recognize and remember yet my favorite game in the series. It's quite ironic since it has the most tracks in the series counting both the GBA and SNES versions hand-in-hand. Don't ask me why. The only track I remember off the top of my head is the World Map one. Now for some impressions of my first listen. Aside from a few tracks, I felt that the SNES portion of the album sounded very same-y. No offense to the remixers and work put into these tracks, but the SNES remixes just didn't catch my ear as much...probably because they're mostly focused on the electronic genre which isn't my cup of tea. I'm sure that people will correct me on this when the tally up the numbers, but that's just how I see it right now upon my first casual browse through this colossal album. The GBA tracks, on the other hand, is where things have picked up. A lot of variety in genres here. One newcomer that I'd like to highlight is Peach. Both of your tracks are really mellow, catchy, high quality and unique. Really enjoyed listening to them. Short and sweet stuff. That being said, my two absolute tracks are out of the GBA mixes. Sea Breeze Concerto by Monkey Kong and Mr. Wise is absolutely incredible! Beneath the Moonlight floored me with its length, atmosphere, vocals, guitars, and awesome composition. The best collab of the album in my opinion, no offense to "Spanish Jitters", which is the heavily promoted mega collab. Don't get me wrong, it's a good track but Beneath the Moonlight is just...poetic.
  13. Currently my favorite track in the album. I'm still in that phase in which the amount of new music is too overwhelming it'll take me a couple of listens to get through the whole album, but this track caught my ear and will no doubt end up my absolute favorite. I absolutely loved Monkey Kong's "Dolphin Ride"...one of my favorite remixes out of the site. This one amps it up a lot in terms of mixing and mastering. Sounds fresh and funky. I'm assuming that's thanks in part to Mr. Wise. The ambiance of the track is really strong, just like Dolphin Ride. I'm loving the synth and solos here and there. I'd like to know where David Wise contributed in terms of playing in the track? Is it that sax solo towards the end of the track? If so, then it's absolutely epic just as the rest of the remix.
  14. As Daniel Bryan would say: YES YES YES YES Arguably the best sounding soundtrack on the n64. Still sounds great today and didn't age one bit. It's probably one of the very few VGMs which had me going, "how in the blue hell is this playing on my console?" because the sound quality From the n64 is way inferior than what's on Tetrissphere. I'm actually surprised nobody tackled this yet.
  15. Definitely agree. Odin Sphere has an EXCELLENT soundtrack. My favorite is definitely Valkyrie March. I feel a lot of emotion coming out of it, and it really sounds like a "going to war" type of song. Wish some remixer can tackle it. The site needs a lot more Sakimoto and Iwata remixes.
  16. It's just that the violin feels that it's placed on top of the track, safely following the rhythm of the guitars. The playing itself is okay, but I don't feel it's special enough or highlighted enough. Listen to Wanderer on the Offensive for a better example. I would've loved more interplay between the violin and guitars, each tackling a different portion of the track. Hopefully that sounds helpful and isn't too vague for you. I don't want to come off as a pretentious American Idol type judge. Keep up the good work, guys!
  17. Nice debut mix. Not my favorite Aquatic Ambiance remix, but still a very good one. The guitars are absolutely awesome, as expected from OA and Level 99. My only critique is the violin. In theory, it would sound epic in a rock sound...but for some reason, it just doesn't mesh right for me in this track. Feels a bit mechanical and thrown on top just for the sake of it. In contrast to something like "Wanderer on the Offensive", which really makes the violin integral to the rock-out mix. Looking forward to more from OCU. That Wave Race teaser is particularly cool. Keep 'em coming.
  18. I've been a huge Kirby fan since Super Star, which is by far my favorite one of the bunch. Squeak Squad comes close though. Too bad they couldn't add the GBA games into the collection. I also really wanted Air Ride to be included. That is such an underrated and misunderstood racer. Anyway. Looking forward to playing Dream Land 2 the most since I've never played it. Dream Land 1 is too basic and Adventure I already played the remake of.
  19. Very exciting stuff. Can't wait to see what the future holds. I'm surprised that there's not a lot of hype surrounding this considering the concept. Maybe once you guys perform at MAG and release some sort of EP, you'll circulate more. I tried looking around for videos of your panel performances but I can't seem to find much. That Wave Race mix sounds sick. Looking forward to the full release. Too bad you guys don't have a drummer. A live drummer shakes things up and makes things more exciting...but maybe that machine of yours can maintain the hype.
  20. So I just noticed this teaser video uploaded on OCR's YouTube channel. The concept is very interesting. About time OCR gets a live band going. Looking forward to seeing these live performances on YT, too. Ramps up all sorts of speculation though. Who are the members of this band? Will they perform/cover selected material already on OCR or all new remixes? Is there an album on the way? I'd love to get some discussion and teasers here! BTW, that Wave Race remix playing in the background is awesome! Is that on OCR? EDIT: never mind. Just saw the description. Will copy and paste here. I didn't know that this was a thing before. Good stuff: Previously known as OCR Live, OverClocked University is a live band born out of some of the core members of the OverClocked ReMix community. For the past two years, Andrew Luers (OA), Stevo Bortz (Level 99), Deia Vengen (DragonAvenger), and Amy Hsieh (diotrans) have been honing their killer live chops by playing their anthemic rock songs at OCR panels across America. This year, at MAGFest 11, OCR Live transforms into OverClocked University for the first time, and forever more.
  21. One of the first tracks I've listened to when I discovered OCR so it holds a special place in my heart. Still holds up today. It's catchy. Here's Darangen's acoustic version to those who are interested. Great stuff:
  22. Underrated remix and underrated remixer. Devastus is someone I first listen to in the Maverick Rising album. His Crush Crawfish remix in my opinion is one of the best tracks in the project. For some reason, I completely skipped out on listening to this track. I'm not an avid fan of Wild Arms or its soundtrack, but I've always heard good things about both. Michiko Naruke appeared in Brawl though with her awesome Brambles remix, and I now know why people love what she does. Anyway, great track. Lots of energy. Cool soothing intro. You can't ask for more. Scratch that, Devastus' Crush Crawfish remix needs a direct post on OCR ASAP!
  23. 170 hours...beat it for the first time. Aimed for a 100% completion and was satisfied with everything the game has thrown at me in terms of side-quests. The only thing I didn't complete was defeating the superbosses which were over level 100. The game single-handedly restored my love for JRPGs and it's in my top 10 favorites of all time. I've been playing games for over 20 years and Xenoblade holds the record for the most amount of hours I've spent playing a single game. I've been playing it since the UK November launch of last year...on and off. That's just shy of a year of gameplay. Yeah, I think very highly of this game. Anyone who loves JRPGs and MMOs should give it a go. I'm not even a fan of MMOs and I loved every minute of gameplay. Since OCR love its game music, I've also gotta say that the soundtrack is phenomenal! Satorl Marsh Night, Colony 9 Day and Night, cut-scene music...really great stuff here!
  24. LemonLime enters the fray with our first claimed Valkyrie Profile track, All is Twilight. Excellent choice and one of my favorite Sakuraba tracks of all time. Scratch that. The arranged version tops it!
  25. Not a bad remix, yet personally "For You" was way superior from a stylistic and lyrical standpoint. I like the glitch effects in the vocals and the arrangement itself was solid, but I'm not as hooked to the lyrics and singing even though the production is better than Akumajo's last track. "For You" is a very hard track to top off though, so props for trying to do so.
