  2. OC ReMix Presents Super Cartography Bros.! November 30, 2015 Contact: press@ocremix.org FAIRFAX, VA... OverClocked ReMix today released its 55th community arrangement album, Super Cartography Bros.. The album pays tribute to map themes from nine games in Nintendo's Super Mario series, and features 17 electronic tracks with an EDM focus. Accompanying the main "Radio Edit" version of the album are the "Club Edit" version, as well as a non-stop "DJ Mix" version edited by Aaron "Global-Trance" Wu. Super Cartography Bros. is directed by OC ReMixer and submissions judge Mike "Flexstyle" Birch, and is available for free download at http://cartography.ocremix.org. Super Cartography Bros. includes a deep roster of 15 musicians tackling soundtracks ranging from Super Mario Bros. 3 for the original NES all the way to Super Mario 3D World for the Wii U. Super Cartography Bros. was made by fans, for fans, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo; all original compositions are copyright their respective owners. "EDM is a genre near and dear to my heart. Video game music is also near and dear to my heart," remarked director Michael Birch. "I've been wanting to direct a high-production-value album for OCR that combines these two things for quite a long time, so when DarkeSword posted his ideas in the forums, I knew this was going to be the project for me." The album's cover artwork was designed by Maya "rnn" Petersen, who also created the art of For Everlasting Peace: 25 Years of Mega Man, OC ReMix's commercial album in partnership with Capcom. rnn has also been featured in UDON's series of video game tribute art books, including Mega Man Tribute. OC ReMixer and submissions judge Shariq "DarkeSword" Ansari conceptualized the album, loving "the idea of OC ReMix putting out something that was proudly and unapologetically "techno.'" In noting OCR's growing acceptance of longer musical arrangements, Ansari added, "I really wanted to see artists explore and expand smaller source tunes into big, sprawling electronic epics. This album has turned into something that's so unbelievably fun to listen to." About OverClocked ReMix Founded in 1999, OverClocked ReMix is an organization dedicated to the appreciation and promotion of video game music as an art form. Undertale

I definitely feel a lot more emotionally invested in this game than basically any others and haven't had a reaction like it since probably FF4 when I was 11 or 12, and the concept of a story blew my mind then. I think it's the kind of game i'd want to create if I created games, where you get rewarded for being a considerate human being, but in a way that is both interesting and not superficial. It's the kind of game I am happy to see have a lot of success, and am wondering how my son (almost 7) would react to it. Also, since you guys would understand this more than anyone else, here's our (me n stevo) mix a bit early, hope you enjoy it: http://oceansend.com/5502/ocr/rock/Undertale%20-%20Golden%20Flowers.mp3

    Undertale

Undertale is such an incredible game. In the last month, I've lost track of how many times I've played through the entire story (at least 6). On the surface, it doesn't present itself as a straightforward RPG (right from the tagline "it's a game where nobody has to die"), but the more you play it, the more you understand just how much depth and complexity there is to this game. This says nothing of all the other elements that make it so amazing. The music, the variability, the use of different game mechanics to tell the story, everything... Anyway, I'll try to summarize my experience here. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'm going to use language that's generic enough, but would carry more meaning to those who've played the game once or twice already: My first time, I figured I'd spare all the main characters to see the story unfold, and level up on the random encounters. Now I regret that. My second time, I didn't lay a hand on anyone, and why do I still feel remorse over the first time I played through?! My third time, ok, I'll be perfect and pretend like the other times never happened. Yay! Everyone's happy! ...I hope? ...ok let me reload and try that again. My fifth time, I'm now curious... what happens if you spare no one? ...I had a bad time. ...ok let me erase everything and pretend like that never happened. My seventh time, ok, I'll be perfect again and pretend like the other times never happened. Yay! Everyone's--WTF.... ...I can't bring myself to hurt anyone in the game anymore. ...I'm going to take a break. (*@$^*(@ ANNOYING DOGS Just to be clear... The above includes a neutral run (without befriending Undyne), a pacifist run, a genocide run (including beating sans), and a few more pacifist runs for good measure. KF

    The Fall of Tziehn

Some thoughts: Vocals: To some extent silly on purpose but the performance and quality could be better, the recording situation (just my apartment) is a bottleneck though. I do feel this is my best attempt so far at mixing clean vocals at least so yay, progress. (Lyrics are very "in-joke" so feel free to ignore.) Guitars & Bass: Pretty happy with them (DI, amp sims), a lot going on at once sometimes but still sounds alright (IMO). Maybe the rhythm guitars could be a bit crunchier to cut through when it gets busy. Eternal struggle. Brass (Impact Soundworks) and strings (Kontakt's factory stuff + a tiny bit IS Furia): They do what I wanted them to do but could be clearer, still learning to mix stuff like that. Kick drum: I'm always pretty happy with it until I think someone from the VGM community is going to listen 'cause I know y'all like it way louder.

  6. Where do you think people get sexist tendencies from? By absorbing the attitudes of the society around them -- the people in their lives and the media they consume. It's a chicken-egg problem. Sexist cultures produce sexist media, sexist media reinforces sexist attitudes, and sexist attitudes contribute to sexist culture. If you can short-circuit the process at any point, then the cycle ends. Since you can't very well keep media from influencing attitudes or attitudes from contributing to culture, you try to stop it at the "producing sexist media" point. It won't solve the problem by itself, certainly, but it will help.

  7. Obviously any best-of album release would require full permission and sign-off from every artist involved. I highly encourage artists to revisit and revise tracks for an eventual compilation. There is also no rush to get a best-of out, so you can always wait until the tracks are up to your standards to put it on the album.

  8. I have been waiting SO LONG for someone to remix something from SS1 or SS2, and I made a profile here specifically to congratulate you on a superb entry (and I think I'll stay, thankyouverymuch). Seriously, this evokes the feel of the game excellently. DO MORE. NOW. Insect.
