  1. Hey guys! Just uploaded a music video of my Mystic Cave Zone arrangement. I actually posted wips of this here like, 7 years ago lol. Got a ton of badasses to play on it--hope you enjoy!

  2. Composition of course ! Otherwise people would have shunned every SNES/Megadrive / NES / soundtrack , they did what they could within the limitations and people (Including myself) STILL listen to those old tracks (Thunder Force IV anyone?)

  4. And it depends what you mean by "people." I think in most cases, a general listener would be more inclined to listen to a unique and enjoyable composition with mediocre production than a mediocre composition with fantastic production. Audiophiles are often critical in the other direction, though. I read through almost all the posts in the Judges' Decisions forum here, and it's much more common for them to say, "This is a great arrangement, but the production could be improved" than "The production here is great, but the arrangement is dull." But when they get one of the former, it's always, "I really love this, please improve it so we can get it on the site," but with the latter it's more like, "meh, this isn't really what we're looking for." It's an interesting contrast--they seem to be much more enthusiastic about composition but much more critical about production.

  5. https://obxd.wordpress.com/ - thats a free vst based on the ob-x synth, used by bands like van halen and rush. Perfect for brass sounds like you're going for! https://app.box.com/s/krhwp975tvsjaiy86oq7w1hd2xlfq1b7 - thats a WIP I did using primarily synths from the VST, if you want an example of what it can do

  6. Synth 1 has some big ass brass in it. You need to get the additional libraries for it, but it's all free. Roland also released a VST version of their Sound Canvas. Not exactly the fix you might be looking for, but worth looking at. It is not free.

  7. You'll find what you need buried in either Nexus 2 or Omnisphere 2, I'd venture. Both of those have a ludicrous amount of incredibly usable presets.

  8. Yeah, though that's never really been a problem for me, I usually have less to keep track of if I've already polished each section well enough by the time I've started writing the next. That being said, if it's not something you're comfortable with doing (mixing as you write), you don't have to do it that way. I just find it easier if I hear all my sounds in the most recent mixing context, to know what I should do next. But hey, maybe arranging in chunks like that can help you. It makes my arrangements more spontaneous, I think. Thanks for your feedback; I personally don't hear the weirdness you say you hear at 2:30, though I can understand how since there is a lot happening there. It's basically a tension-and-resolve, just with more complicated voicings (like 7ths and 9ths).

  9. Ok, I submitted, since I need to get to bed finally. I'm actually rather pleased with my rushed work

  10. Thank you timaeus222 for your time to explain your workflow. I learn some more techniques own to you : having some basics instrument/sounds to elaborate my soundscape, it would be easier to stay in the creating process instead of taking too much time focusing on the perfect sounding instrument right off the bat. I'm not good enough to have this kind of feeling of getting all the remix in my head before going to work on my DAW. But as stated by Jorito, I could use a pen and paper to get my arrangement written down, and stick to it. I didn't think about working in "parts" instead of going for the whole mix in one shot. Maybe that's why I feel overwhelmed by all the stuff to think about. I listened to the tracks that you have put in your post, I like all theses little FX samples (I can hear some kind of bow) that contribute to the universe that you want to share. If I could permit myself of an opinion, the final version At 2:30, some chords progression are a bit weird to my ears.

  11. Oh, the speedrunners are going to have fun with that. Combine with the parasail and you'll be able to get a lot of distance without getting the normal stamina upgrades needed to climb/swim that far. Supposedly the world is designed in such a way that this wouldn't break too much, but we'll see.

  12. Dude, this is really good. As far as electronic music goes, I'm more into Drum and Bass, but this is dope. Did you make a longer version?
