You're not really wanting to understand it either, you're just being arrogant and aggressive. It is not a manufacturer's problem if you lose their physical product. All things on Earth run the risk of being lost, whether it's physical or not. That you purchased it anyway means you accepted that risk. That wasn't THEIR mistake, that was YOURS. A password can be retrieved (or, in most cases, just rewritten) because it's not a physical product, it is simply text. Yes, it sucks that it's not cheaper, but you still accepted the risk and terms when you bought it. I mean, you don't see (reasonable) people bitching to Apple "I lost my iPad, why can't I have a new one for $15?" why would that be different here? Professional companies do not simply create things to be difficult, that's just an excuse irritable consumers use to explain why elements are difficult without having to do any real thought process of their own. They do things like that because, in their positions of all things company-related, they could not see or think of a better option. That doesn't make it easier on the consumer end, no, but making up biased opinions and calling them facts doesn't do anything constructive either. DRM sucks, but that was going to be a natural function of the internet sooner or later anyway. No point in fanning flames on it, just need to keep reworking how it works for better consumer use.

(Free) High Quality VST Instruments
Meteo Xavier replied to Master Mi's topic in Music Composition & Production
It is well known that free and high quality are rarely compatible elements, especially in the lucrative business of VSTs. Having said that: http://www.meteoxavier.com/p/free-vsts-soundfonts-and-samples.html. That should be a good starting place. -
Can anyone find these soundfonts??
Meteo Xavier replied to RayMaynard's topic in Music Composition & Production
If Google isn't turning anything up, they likely do not exist yet. Some people on Youtube claim to have all kinds of soundfonts for all kinds of games, but I haven't seen much fruit bear from those trees. -
Very much this. Video games are not a guy-only sport anymore and the shift towards proper representation for females is going on. This subject is getting tired, and I would like it if modern feminism would stop focusing so much on how virtual women are portrayed on a screen and focus more on the flesh and blood women who need real help today.

Need advice on a starter digital piano
Meteo Xavier replied to Chimpazilla's topic in General Discussion
Be sure it comes with a pedal too. Pedal training will be required. -
If dongles were really as bad as critics made it out to be, EWQL wouldn't be used by scores of amateurs and professionals. That's basic common sense. The real bottom line you're supposed to be getting here, Alex, is that dongles are not for everybody. Some people really freak out about them, as you can see here, and others don't really mind them at all. After that, it's just people wanking back and forth on the theoretical academics of the product and later the argument itself, as you can also see here. There are better newer options than EWQL right now like that Da Capo I showed you earlier, and you may do better with that.

How did you get into the game music industry?
Meteo Xavier replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
How about you, Larry? Share with us some details about how you got to work on Project Phoenix. -
Da Capo is currently 40% off too. Like $165. Yes, I'm fighting temptation...

If you don't want foreign software on your PC, why are you buying music programs? What is this idea that a license won't remain authenticated? I don't understand. I've had an iLok version for years, and I would call any trouble associated with it minimal. The biggest reason it would be an issue is if your PC had a small number of USB ports to put it in. Mine rests in one in the back and I've had no trouble with it at all since then. The main reason people bitch about it is because they don't have anything larger to bitch about at the time they're bitching. I don't know all the ins and outs of iLok use, nor do I have anything else that would require an iLok, but with my history of music software problems, if I can get it to work without much problem, than it's really not that big of a deal in practice. As far as an alternative, you didn't mention a price range, but if you're talking Vienna, the sky must be the limit. Check out Da Capo. http://www.sonokinetic.net/products/classical/dacapo/

This is me practicing some more with a remix of BRAVE NEW WORLD from Namco X Capcom (based on a MIDI from DZX). I think I'm improving, but it still sounds way too harsh and filling up the soundscape in my opinion. I have taken many of the suggestions here as I work on this. Is this better than my last attempt http://tindeck.com/listen/tpsy

Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals
Meteo Xavier replied to big giant circles's topic in General Discussion
Long shot, but has anyone seen any Black Friday deals regarding the Korg Legacy plugins? It would be sweet to get an M1 VST for less than $50. -
What to do when offered a music related job.
Meteo Xavier replied to Esperado's topic in Music Composition & Production
I want to chime in that, yes, it's very important to get your terms locked in with a contract, but I want to advise against getting caught up with how MUCH money you're going to get and trying to force a more lucrative deal out of them just because other artists on here suggest you should. This is your first gig, you haven't really earned the kinds of things other artists who get to command what they want out of a deal have earned. It also makes you look more like a greedy opportunist and could help put the kibosh on the deal so you get nothing at all. The contract itself is definitely more important and should be in any fixture of art hirin'. Even if you work for free, they have a responsibility to honor your agreed-upon terms and conditions. It is unreasonable for them not to do that under just about any circumstance. -
I have to remember this every time I go to KVR forums for anything. Those people are some of the rudest, least helpful and most arrogant pricks I could mingle with in the world of online music. OCR is definitely steps above pretty much everything else, and even when I have issues with people on here, I always have to remember it's better than anywhere else on the internet.

How did you get into the game music industry?
Meteo Xavier replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
I actually am working on a major guide project I hoped to make a part of the OCR Music Workshop forums that goes into much, much, greater detail for this subject as well as offering good objective advice for getting better success out of music endeavors. Offering a package deal of services is one of the things I go into on it. -
How did you get into the game music industry?
Meteo Xavier replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
Well, generally, I should think it best boils down to one of two ways: 1. You answer calls looking for composers for indie games on indie gaming forums and other game-related projects and avenues until you build a decent enough portfolio and start climbing to bigger and better games until eventually you're working on more mainstream material. 2. You go to college for a full music degree, also build a portfolio for small gigs in and around the want ads posted at music colleges and submit your resume around to game companies until you get hired by one of them and just go forward from there. Not every history is quite that neatly compacted, but if I've learned anything from listening to the histories of others who found success, it boils down to that on objective information - the rest of it is just individual subjective practices and plain and simple luck. -
My wife and I just got done with two marathons of Michiko To Hatchin and my GOD, I haven't been this frustrated with an anime in recent memory. I won't spoil anything, but I feel like the whole adventure was just pointless. It's so absorbed in trying to create this fight for everyone, the lowly peasants, thieves, and highly disadvantaged stuck in a gang world gone mad, that when it came down to where everything finally needed to resolve itself to make the intense suffering and loss worth it, it wasn't. Very much I felt like this show was some sort of modern-day Brazil version of Samurai Champloo, and maybe it was supposed to explore the inverse of that ending where the journey did not come to a satisfying end, but it still pisses me off quite a bit. More so than Cowboy Bebop and Champloo, it went to great lengths to create these very complicated and rich characters, gold emotional content and really make me feel for everyone in it. If it was trying to go for a "realistic" ending, I ask what the point of the unrealistic struggle was to get there. I was strung along like a horse hypnotized by a carrot. Many unanswered questions, loose threads, and gaps. None of the characters seemed to get very far or were that better off than they started. What was the point? I appreciate when I get the ending I don't expect, but I don't appreciate not getting the ending I want. Alright, I'm done. I just needed to get that out. I really did get absorbed in that world and man does it make me mad to still have so many gaps and promises for fulfillment without being fulfilled.

Also hyperbolic comment in direct competition with everyone else irrelevant from anything resembling Thanksgiving. Exclamation point!
