  5. This song simply hits the spot no matter what mood I'm in. The first song that comes to mind when I think of McVaffe.
  6. Just fabulous. I'm so very pleased by how this turned out after following it periodically over the entire process. I can remember listening to early versions of several of the songs, and I am very satisfied with how everything turned out. It works better than projects before it because it really feels cohesive as a whole while remaining at a very high level of quality. Reading the goals of each song while listening through it the first time enriches the experience so much, and the artists have succeeded in fulfilling Claado's vision through the music. I also really like how certain themes pop up several times throughout the album, whereas we are left with a disjoint feeling with with singular remixes of each theme for previous projects. Of the new previously unreleased tracks, I'm most impressed with Morning Sunlight, Darkness Dueling, Revelation of Fire, Hymn of Valor, Crono's Dream, and The New Beginning. The album is so consistently good and there was not a single track that was a letdown. There is a certain sense of magic from this project that I never felt when listening to the other ones. Thanks to everyone involved for bringing this to us, you've made this community proud.
  7. Holy shit. This is one of those remixes that come out of nowhere from a newcomer that just ends up kicking your ass. I freaking love this.
  8. Comparison to Pillar of Salt alone made me believe I was in for a treat. I turned my speakers up extra loud for this one, knowing that this could potentially be one of those creations with an unforgettable first experience. And boy, I wasn't dissapointed. Simply wonderful, this is a masterpiece that all remixers wish they could make. I could go on and on breaking down every aspect of this, but I'd rather not try to explain this magic in words. A must listen.
  9. Just finished listening to it all. Still unsure what to really think of it. Many of my opinions will sound like nit-picking, but I still feel I should voice them. First off, I acknowledge that this may be the boldest and riskiest arrangment project possible. The Doom soundtrack forced you guys to stick to basically the same tone throughout every song, which in my opinion bogged down the lengthy 1.5 hours of listening. I'm thinking "Damn, this is awesome" after the first 5 tracks, but then it starts to get tiresome after 10 more tracks that are all built around the same ideas: distortion, a feeling of chaos, and synths going off in every direction. Tracks 1-2 really, really kicked my ass. The transition between the two is by FAR the greatest moment of the whole project, and it's little things like this that should have been evident throughout the whole album. Voices on track 1 are well executed, and some suprisingly impressive guitar work on track 2 and also track 5 from some guys whose work I'm not too familiar with. From there on however, it's really a mixed bag. Very few memorable moments, at times it seems there's an alarming lack of musical creativity and experimentation. Not too many things that stood out, except for perhaps the ending on Dan B's title track. The idea for an Intermission gave me the sense that you guys understood the use of a filler track, but the execution of it here makes me doubt that. Yes, you had good intentions of dividing up this lengthy 23 track listen with the Intermission, but it's how it sets up the following track that's important. Tracks following filler tracks generally don't need intros, so as good as the drums are at the beginning of Infiltrator, it sort of destroys the purpose of the track before it. Fillers are generally intended serve AS the intro for the next track, which brings up my next point... As offensive as this may seem, Ghosts of Mars and Secrets and Lies should have been made into filler tracks themselves. Eliminate the beat on Ghosts of Mars, make it about a minute long, and it sounds a whole lot more ethereal and makes it a better change of pace with a tone of mystery rather than the tone of danger that exists everywhere else on the CD. Secrets and Lies is pretty much already perfect as a filler track...except that its about 3 minutes too long to be one. You're probably thinking "Why won't this guy shut up with this filler talk? Filler filler filler blah blah blah." Really, I think fillers are the only way to save something like this when you've got the same tone throughout a double disc set. You had the right idea with Intermission, but it's still damn tiresome consecutively listening to 11 songs over 4 minutes long each. Then there's that vocal track at 22. I like vocal tracks, and I think this one's pretty good, but it's awkward as hell. For 21 tracks you try to pull me into this feeling that I'm on an alien planet, desparately fighting for my life to survive against these gruesome monsters around me, and suddenly this female voice is clearly singing out to me "Trust in me, that's all you can do." Eh? Instead of having one full blown vocal track with lyrics, having silently spoken lyrics littered throughout the tracks would have worked, sort of building the sense that the main character is hearing voices in his head or something. Overall, some moments of brilliance, holds up well compared to previous arrangement project efforts, but contains some ideas that could be executed a little better.
  10. Go with the orchestrated version. I've already listened to the original 50+ times, and this new one still managed to give me chills. I'll definetly keep both, but I can't see myself really listening to the piano-only version aside from comparison reasons in the future. The added orchestration doesn't really detract the song anywhere and only improves it.
  11. Some immediate comments while listening to each track: Drops of Dreamriver - A nice, fairly simple opener to the album. It felt like it dragged on a bit by the end, but overall pretty good and does its job of setting up things to come. Free Breezin' - Some uber slick guitar work from Darangen. I'm loving this one a lot, I think it's some of the best work I've ever heard from him. Lots of energy, wondefully fills the pivotal track 2 spot. Cosmic Transformations - The project's first single, so to say. Love that intro, builds up the mood perfectly. Some wonderful effects every here and there, technically quite impressive. A strong contribution. Creampuff Starship - It's got that analoq groove written all over it in kind of a mellowed down style. Oooh, 3:22 is where that signature reverb guitar comes in, and it's as sexy as ever. Great stuff. Kirby...tacular - Rellik's technical prowess is at full display here. Those synth effects are the best I can recall hearing from him. A short but very sweet track. The Ballad of Sir Kibbles - Wow, this one really impressed me. Guitar intertwines with electronica and piano, all done very seamlessly. Very heartfelt, good structure to the song, may be my favorite track thus far. Starbound - Was really looking forward to this one. chthonic has been on an absolute roll lately, everything he's put out in recent days has been gold. This one is no different. Crazy effects, varied instrumentation, and solid composition were all expected and he delivers yet again. Generalized Vegetal - This one has an interesting sort of march beat to it, a breath of fresh air after all the trance beats before it. Good stuff. Aviator Soul - Darkesword orchestral! Stirring stuff, and good juxtaposition with... Final Flight - Hot electronic work from Darkesword, who shows off his versatility. It gives us the sense that this album is winding down with its fast pace, like the sense of urgency in the final battle. Nice choice on using a fade-out, it gives me the image of Kirby flying off into the night... Dreams of Valor - Yet another GL and Bladiator collaboration success. I'm not familiar with Hemophiliac, so I can't even begin to guess what his contributions were to this song. A majestic and great closer to this wonderful album. Overall, a very enjoyable listen. No track in particular stood out above the others, as every track was good stuff. Kudos to Darkesword for a great theme, congrats to you all for a very succesful endeavor.
  12. Excuse my ignorance, but what's the point of these .flac files I'm getting from the torrent? Each of these are several MB larger than the actual song file, and are making my download about four times longer than it should be.

  15. I'm starting to think that a Super Mario RPG arrangement project would be truly spectacular. I'm playing this after Booster Tarantino, followed by Jeremy's own Mushroom Wedding song, and finished with Russell Cox's remix of Geno's Theme, and it feels as if I'm playing the game for the 100th time again. But yeah, about this mix. Could it be possible that the mixing quality of this suffered because Jeremy had to fit it at 6 megs? At 6:38, and 6 megs, this is about as good as the quality is going to get. Enjoyed this song immensely, excellent combination of these three themes, and a great sense of the game's style.

  17. Well, this is awesome. The song is actually rather beautiful in the beginning, I often replay the section from 1:57 to 2:26 because I thought you guys cut it off too soon, I would listen to an entire song of that style. And that rap section. Music of My Groin didn't make me laugh at all, but I was rolling when this came in. A remix of pure genius. Needs a sequel pronto!

  19. My interest in this project has just gone from casual enthusiasm to unbearable anticipation. WOW, would that be awesome. Please, make that the OCR submission that gets posted along with the release of the project (the lead single in a sense), it would spark so much more interest for this.
  20. If you guys really want to hear her AMAZING voice, go check out "Amor Mio, Caro Bene," a remix of the opera theme from Final Fantasy 6 over at VGmix. While the arrangement didn't turn out to be OC-worthy, the voice in that song is absolutely incredible. While this particular remix didn't floor me like her previous vocal performance, it shows me that she has the skills to make a song on her own, which all but guarantees that she's going to be a legend in this community if she keeps submitting stuff. You're saying that she can sing in more than three languages? Unbelievable. Helen Trevillion, you now have a rival. I eagerly await your next submission Ms. Goldin.
  21. Got this one quite a while ago, and according to my media player, it's my 5th most listened to song. Liked it for a long period, and didn't start losing interest until about the 90th listen. Excellent job of giving the source material a completely different feel to it. Next to Angel, this is probably my favorite Darkesword mix.
