Recommend me a few Metal/Rock remixes
Guy In Rubber Suit replied to cromar's topic in General Discussion
I recommend House or housethegrate and his brother Ashane. They mostly do some great hard rock/metal remixes with the occasional jazz and samba arrangement here and there. Ryan8bit, particularly his later stuff which has gotten so much better and heavier. Of course you could also go the official route and get the Black Mages, hard rock/metal arranged music with Nobuo Uematsu doing the arrangements and keyboards. And there's Naoto Shibata who did some fantastic and some of the best metal arrangements of the Castlevania games. Finally, Taro Banno and Hajime Wakai doing fantastic rock arrangements, and my personal favorites of F-Zero X. -
Is there going to be a deadline for this? I've been thinking of making my own album artwork and this sounds perfect. I have a few ideas floating around.

Why not try tabbing it out yourself? Or find the tabs for the source material and try to build off of there?

I really don't hear anything Japanese about the music here. There are a few scales that create an Eastern feel to them but here I really don't hear it. It sounds like 16-bit music to me and really Eastern and Western composers focused on melody at the time. I guess the only thing that can really be 'Japanese' are the use of xylophones in some of the tunes. I know some JRPGs abuse that instrument or something similar.

Finished Mass Effect Revelation now into Mass Effect Ascension. Decent books that expand upon the universe a bit.

I have the entire Dune series written by Frank Herbert. I'd like to finish them up after I reread Dune since it's been so long since I've read that one. Currently I'm reading through Mass Effect Revelation by Drew Karpyshyn. Reading it to get hyped up for the next game and to read a bit of the back story of David Anderson. If you played the game before you'll definitely recognize much of the technology and the descriptions of some are almost word for word the same as what's in the game. It's an easy read, action packed and I'm about a 1/3 of the way through. I'm mostly reading on my lunch break, so that explains the slow pace. The previous book I read was Spider Star by Mike Brotherton. It's a hard science fiction novel, i.e. it has a lot of explanation for the technology and it's plausible for the future. Thankfully it doesn't get bogged down in technobabble and it has decent character development. In the future, humanity has colonized the planet Agro abandoned by an extinct alien race orbiting the star Pollux. While investigating Agronaut technology on a moon, a cataclysmic weapon from the star itself was activated, lashing out a stream of hot plasma and general star material. We have to find out a way to stop that and the only clues we have are from Agronaut folklore. The next book I'm going to read is Mass Effect Ascension then probably move on to Mindscan by Robert J. Sawyer. As you can see I'm a fan of sci-fi and I have a lot of sci-fi books to finish up.

I definitely enjoyed the first game, though for some reason I never picked up the second one. I have to track that down. This game looks promising and I'll have to add it to my list of games to pick up.

When I saw this I immediately thought of the EyeToy, which if I remember correctly didn't set the world ablaze regardless of how many times Sony rereleased the damned thing. I feel that this thing will ultimately become a strictly a gimmick, especially if it's not going to be packed in with 360s or anything else. Since it's a peripheral, and most likely an expensive one, support for it will be limited at best. Sure some developers will make games for it but if they don't sell well the rest of the developers will shy away from it and the peripheral will die. Ultimately this is just a stepping stone to virtual reality which is something I'd like to see. We have the technology to do it, it'll just take a few more years to make it cost effective.

Alarum - (Mixture of harsh and clean vocals, though not much in the way of instrumentation variation)Unexpect - (Mixture of harsh male and clean female vocals. More instrumentation variation such as horns, violin and keyboards)Dog Fashion Disco - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQFMY9cyzGo (Not exactly jazz, but they definitely have a unique sound, similar to Mr. Bungle) Sigh - (You might want to check them out. Not exactly jazz metal but they are extremely varied. This song will sound completely different from many of their other songs. I'm not a big fan of them but maybe you'll like them)If you're interested in music with other instruments, especially metal then check out the sub-genre folk metal. The genre generally fuses thrash/death metal with folk instruments, songs and melodies. Often the bands will sing in their native tongue as well. Though there is a fair amount of harsh vocals, some use them exclusively and others mix harsh with clean vocals. Vintersorg is one of my favorites in that genre.

I saw it a second time in 3D and that was definitely not worth the extra money. 3D is still too gimmicky to spend the extra money on. This movie is the reason why Pixar will continue to dominate CG animation. Their movies have heart and soul and characters who you care about. I enjoyed the adult themes in there. They did make me a bit teary eyed but that added to the overall character development. Overall a very sweet, charming and hilarious movie that must be seen. However the short in the beginning is funny it's not as memorable as the other Pixar shorts.

EGM to be resurrected... and now it has been
Guy In Rubber Suit replied to The Coop's topic in General Discussion
Why can't you throw any of your magazines away? Or better yet, recycle them? Sushi-X hasn't been used in years and he was created by David Siller then later taken over by Ken Williams. Other editors have portrayed the character but those two were the most influential, with Williams having the longest tenure as Sushi-X. I'm glad to see the magazine come back even though I haven't purchased an issue of it in a few years mostly because I just started to dislike the way it looked and the way content was laid. However many of the early issues were pretty horrible, if not worse. I still want to have all the issues of 1 to 100, which I'm almost there just to complete my collection and experience some nostalgia. -
How big is YOUR game collection?
Guy In Rubber Suit replied to WolfenAmphithere's topic in General Discussion
http://backloggery.com/guyinrubbersuit 283 according to the Backloggery, however I haven't included my Live Arcade games and I'm missing a few games I bought digitally on my laptop. I had a little over 300 games but I sold the ones I didn't want and that I was never going to play. -
Creed and Limp Bizkit reunite!
Guy In Rubber Suit replied to SwordBreaker's topic in General Discussion
Metal and Limp Bizkit should never be in the same sentence unless to say that "Limp Bizkit is the furtherest thing from metal." I've never cared much for Creed and I had one Limp Bizkit album that I promptly destroyed after a year or two of ownership. This definitely seems like the decade of reunions with bands like At the Gates, Emperor, Carcass, Spice Girls and a ton of others getting back together and touring and making an album or just touring. And Wes Borland is a very mediocre guitarist. I've heard some of his non-Bizkit work and it was not impressive at all. Tremonti has some decent riffs here and there but definitely not my favorite in the slightest. -
I'd recommend Fallout 3. It's definitely one of my favorites despite the flaws like crappy character animations, some awkward looking humans, various minor graphical bugs here and there and the rare random crash bug here and there. Don't let those faults deter you. Fallout 3 is a huge expansive game worthy of your time. I'll also through out Too Human out there if you really enjoy Diablo style dungeon crawlers with a shit ton of loot to pick, most of which is worthless if you're not of the right class. Another game with many flaws, more so than Fallout 3 in my opinion but it can be an enjoyable game.

That looked pretty interesting and yeah I thought this thread about going to be about the DS FPS title. And I concur about it ripping heavily off of 2001.

That's a pretty cool concept you have going there. I'm not sure if it's intentional or not but the first thought in my head was 'This looks a lot like Einhander' which is a fine game on its own, just curious if that was intentional or coincidence.

The "official" debit card of the Hyrule royal famiily!

That's awesome. I'm not aware of Wells Fargo doing something like, anyone know if they do? -
I enjoyed a good chunk of Assassin's Creed but I really hated how they did the bait and switch at the beginning of the game. I was expecting to be fully immersed in the Crusades, not reading DNA from an ancestor. It especially hit me when I bought the art book, which is fantastic and I recommend anyone into good art to pick it up, the creative director Patrice Desilets basically explained that the Animus was also created as a way to explain the use of a health bar and inventory and such. I thought that was lame and felt that they could've done a better job to explain away 'video game elements'. The magical elements toward the end of the game were another turn off for me. Basically I had high hopes for the original and they were squashed. I hope that with the experience the team has now they can make something really good. I probably won't buy the sequel out right but I am curious as to how this will turn out.

I'm going to pick it up. I like Samurai Shodown despite me not being any good at it.

VGM = Best music out there?
Guy In Rubber Suit replied to wintermadness's topic in General Discussion
Metal is my main musical diet though I definitely love video game music, the kind I listen to generally is hard rock or metal in nature such as the Dracula rearranged albums or just about anything from Dwelling of Duels. So basically my musical tastes fall into video game music as well. -

Disney goes back to it's roots... about time..
Guy In Rubber Suit replied to Toadofsky's topic in General Discussion
This movie looks really cliche. It's good to see more traditional animation but I've never been a big fan of Disney. The last film I liked from them that was made just by them was Lilo and Stich. And my favorite animated film from them is Fantasia. I'm also not too keen on musicals so another strike against them. -
Good vintage video game stores in SoCal?
Guy In Rubber Suit replied to Mia's topic in General Discussion
You might want to check Videogame Price Charts for price comparisons. The prices are just averages culled from eBay, Amazon, Half.com and a few other sources if they have it. The places you go to could be using that as a reference, but at the very least you have a barometer to determine if you're getting ripped off.
