  1. WHOA WHOA Whoa whoa whoa, whoa, whoa... whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa Have you talk to DJP about this? When I read your post I was just thinking of something internal to OCR, like the Fan Art Competition or the ye olde comedy competition... but a music video contest that's available to anyone could really make an impact on the site. As someone who might be interested in making an OCR music video (and incidentally started making one years ago but never finished)... ...let me start by saying I have to agree with analoq: K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple, Stupid. No entry pool, no prize money, no worrying about a dinosaur media (DVD) release. A 4-6 week deadline is enough. I like this. Only I have had a hell of a time uploading videos to youtube - it always messes up the sound/video synch, if only a bit... and it can be especially bad for longer videos. Uploading a music video only to have the timing off by a quarter of a second would infuriate me to no end - some kind of alternate submission hosting solution (for those who choose to use it) would be wonderful. This won't affect me at all though if I can just upload a Flash music video to Newgrounds. And since I've already answered the survey: 1. Would you be willing to put forward something valuable towards a prize for this contest? Doubt it, unless I really think I have something great - which is unlikely unless I end up in a collaboration. The most likely scenario for me is that I make some kind of animation (sprite or otherwise) in Flash. 2. Which contest would you prefer, a silly one or a serious one. Silleh! But honestly, in terms of what kinds of entries I'd like to actually watch... I'd want a mix of both funny no-effort entries AND top-notch professional stuff. Actually, "professional" is not my idea of entertaining... what I really mean is "impressive". 3. Which contest would you enter? Silleh! But if the standards for a "serious" competition are low enough, I'd enter that too. 4. Exactly. Timmeh! 5. What kind of rules do you think would be fair? I mean for a serious competition there should be some minimum requirements not unlike the ocr standards... a certain screen resolution and file quality perhaps? Should it use the entire song? Should flash count? Should there be any kind of censorship? For anything serious, some basic rules would be good, but nothing too limiting that could cause an "ah crap, I have to re-render my video because it doesn't fit the rules" scenario. Flash can render to video easily enough, but that causes quality loss and I've had problems with it in the past... I would suggest allowing Flash. Should it have to use the entire song? Hmmmm... that's a big one. Pros: - No chance of badly-edited song shortening. - No need to explain that the song in the video is an edit. Cons: - Entrants will look for shorter songs and skip the longer ones. - Music videos could potentially flow much much better if the director has the freedom to cut out parts of the song. Perhaps song editing could be allowed, provided that: - If the video is not silly and bad, the audio must be edited in a professional manner (such that you won't notice the edits, unless of course you're familiar with the song). - Any editing done is indicated in some given fashion. 6. Since the mixes are fair game on the site but permission must be granted before they are used in things does that mean a contest of this sort might require the entrant hunting down the remixer? I'm not 100% familiar with the latest rules, but can't you use ReMixes without contacting the remixer, as long as you clearly supply OCR's URL, name, and [probably the song/remixer name or something]? Either way, I would definitely contact the remixer if I chose to enter, even if it takes a little "hunting down". 7. Would you buy an ocrmv dvd? Would I!? =D Ehh.... probably not, unless some sort of occasion came up in which is would be useful. I cannot at this time think of such an occasion. 8. Would you go to an ocrmv dvd-screening party? Doubtful, but you never know. 9. What would be the best method of getting high quality video files like this to each other? Co-ordinated sever space until they're recieved by the judge(s)? File transfer/torrent? By mail? Torrent sounds reasonable to me. 10. Awww jeez what about the judges!? Let's cross that bridge when we come to it. [Edit] Post restructuring!
  2. Is it 321235573? OH WAIT- he's not from Bionic Commando, is he?
  3. Well I DID say the video wasn't loading (and neither was the progress bar) I'll be sure to watch this later! =D
  4. Who said it was two hours? I'm just asking for a ballpark estimate, rather than an exact "29 minutes and 34 seconds", so I don't know exactly when it's going to end. I've avoided spoilers for this long already, don't want to blow it now! =p
  5. Your headphones are bad and you should feel bad! Of course it's "just stereo"... that's what makes it impressive. But curiosity has the best of me, and I need to get to the bottom of this. If you're not just playing devil's advocate or overcompensating for hype, then maybe: 1) you have a giant afro (or different-shaped ears) which makes stuff sound different to you than it does to others? 2) your headphones are so good they already have the effect built into them? 3) your hearing is so good that you can't fall for any kind of headphone trickery? This is what I'm wondering. It appears the only input data is sound - that must mean the sound waves are analyzed in some way in order to create different sound waves. I imagine it must analyze the sound sort-of the way your brain does in order to detect positions of sounds, and then reposition those sounds to the positions that your brain thinks they should be in? As for the barbershop recording, maybe it's simply a marketing "demonstration" of the concept, a "this is how good our hearing aids sound; all other hearing aids sound like the normal stereo sound you're used to" kind of thing? Or maybe it's actually doing the algorithm and making some assumptions about your headphone speakers? (And The Damned's headphone speakers don't follow those assumptions?) I really have no idea. That article looks pretty half-assed. (I know that's not the proper spelling!) Also, I was under the impression that the dual-microphone setup required a head-shaped (and ear-shaped) device of sorts to absorb/reflect sound like a human head does. I think it did in the thread last year at least. And I'm also wondering if this kind of thing has been used in any games yet (and if not, why).
  6. About how long is it? (20 minutes? An hour? Two hours?) I'm having trouble loading the video and I'm wondering if there's a better way to download it.
  7. You mean shooting things that aren't directly level with his torso? He's using special weapons. Personally I prefer the lack of charge shot... charging all the time just wasn't that fun a mechanic. I also don't mind no sliding. They're obviously building levels and bosses with a lack of sliding in mind, and that went extremely well in Megaman 9.
  8. The only thing more frustrating than failing at a megaman boss for that long is watching someone else fail for that long. Learn to aim! Haha, just days ago I was playing the SNES game that that stage's song comes from. Key word: SNES
  9. I wonder if there's anyone in the world who likes Dou more than Bass. Or likes Duo at all. 8-bit Bass!! :3
  10. I was going to make a thread about this at the time, but didn't for whatever reason: When my brother and I saw Rodrigo y Gabriela on Conan a few months back, we both noticed the song they played (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9ZxozEsdgQ&fmt=18) sounded like Megaman music. I looked them up, and sure enough their other songs sound like Megaman too! Specifically Megaman 2, 3, 4, and 9. Awesome awesome songs and performances: (intro reminiscent of Flash Man's intro, also reminds me of Needle Man in parts) (actually they all remind me of Needle Man) (I know it's Metallica, but don't tell me it doesn't remind you of at least four different megaman songs by the end of the song. Bubbleman and a Wily stage at the very least.) (Now this one was a pleasant surprise!! I mean, even more pleasant. There's even a bit of Megaman X 1 in there!) (Does the entire first half sound like Megaman 2 to anyone else?) (I haven't found one that doesn't sound like megaman to me yet, so I'll just stop posting them)Are these guys Megaman fans, or do I just think every mindblowing and intense melodic song played on two guitars sounds like it's made by Bun Bun?
  11. Prepare for this thread to be moved. Unless the mods decide that Second Life isn't a video game I also don't play it.
  12. Hooray! 10 characters........hopefully I'll have something before the month is over
  13. I totally did not feel at all like drawing yesterday - maybe I'll have some steampunk done in a few days.
  14. I definitely wouldn't mind a week extension. (I haven't started yet either)
  15. And it's done! I haven't thought of a good title yet (help would be appreciated ), but the concept is Sega and Nintendo characters playing Mario Party: http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/4460/mariosonicsmall.png [Edit] Aah, triple post!
  16. Bump! So I scanned my drawing and touched it up, and now it's just a simple matter of adding colour! It's 7 weeks late, but that's besides the point. I'll try and make time for this month's entry too :3
  17. I've never played a Phoenix Wright game and I don't own a DS. Should I try out this demo?
  18. Of course she's got talent and it was super impressive. But maybe she didn't do a lot of research for a couple of them. Or maybe some people in Ontario use an accent that I've never heard before. I don't even live in Ontario, so that's not a farfetched a possibility. So how about that movie? =] I don't know why, but the Prince's name in the movie, "Dastan", sounds eerily familiar. Yet in the game (as far as I know) they made a point of not giving him a name, and I can't think of anywhere I might have heard the name before. Bah, I probably just read the name in an old article about the Sands of Time movie.
  19. It's funny; to me, the only accent that she DIDN'T nail was the Toronto one. It sounded like a cross between English-as-a-second-language Francophone (which I'm familiar with) and the who-made-up-that-horrible-Canadian-stereotype-accent-anyway accent (which I've only heard in TV/movies, mostly from Canadian characters (not actors), but sometimes characters from states close to the border). You know what I'm talking about. But I wonder if everyone thinks she does their own city's/country's accent horribly. Yeeaaaahh no such thing, unless everyone in the world agrees that Amy's Seattle accent is "no accent". Personally I'd rather have characters with British (or Iranian) accents than the "generic no accent" accent. Unless you mean to say that each actor use their own native accent, but that would just be awkward.
  20. I'm pretty sure everyone used British accents in the game too. It's impossible for me to tell by the trailer if the movie's going to be any good or not. It'll likely be better than the average videogame-based movie, but that's not saying much.
  21. Ok, I know exactly what I'm drawing now. Can't wait! [Edit] Also, everyone should watch the (unfortunately unadopted) pilot for The Amazing Screw-On Head! It's even more funny and awesome than I remember so far:
  22. No need! Not when there's Steampunk Mario, Steampunk Megaman, Steampunk Willie, Steampunk Final Fantasy 6 oh wait-
  23. I'm really happy for you, I'mma let you finish, but Level 99 had one of the best costumes of all time!
  24. Now post the one where DJP and Liontamer are wearing Level 99 and Harmony costumes.
