The United Video Game Symphony: Arrangers Needed!
Argle replied to thomas_kresge's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
hmm, I've done some orchestral remixes but not sure I could write for an actual orchestra. -
What would be the benefit for Gamestop to lie about a used game being new, though? Not sure I see the angle.

Need a sample, synth, or effect? LOOK HERE!

Is the Alicia's Keys on sale somewhere? Care to share the link? I would definitely buy it for $40. -
Not trying to be hostile here or anything, real talk. I've just found over the years, discussion specific mixing techniques that work for you in the context of your own songs, don't necessarily work for everyone else. That's why I try to couch my language in "here's my opinion, here's what generally has worked for me in the past (and why), YMMV". I've become more hesitant over the years to take a hard stance on these things, in case people have the wrong perception. Parallel compression is actually one of the few "magic pixie dust" techniques I can recommend to pretty much everyone, but even then, how you go about it is a matter of personal preference.
-
Because I'm not clairvoyant and didn't realize that you WOULD change your post in time? I'm glad you edited it to reflect your opinion, but come on.
-
The entire point of parallel compression is that you CAN crush the life out of the transients, and because you're blending in the original signal they are still present. So you get the best of both worlds. That's what parallel compression is. As I said, your opinion on the "correct" way to go about parallel compression is misleading/wrongly worded at best, bad information at worst.
-
Been lurking in this thread enjoying the discussion, but... Right here, I would call this misinformation. You're putting this opinion out as if it is a fact set in stone, when in reality your transients are preserved in the original signal, making the compression bus fair game for anything. To a newbie reading this thread, your statement will put the wrong ideas in their head about what you can and can't do with parallel compression, and as such is not very helpful.

To me Kevin Conroy is Batman. All the other actors are just guys who are not Kevin Conroy.

finished Mega Man vs Disney (new version, finally)
Argle replied to KingTiger's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Agreed. Ear candy, flourishes, drops, creative effects, etc. I got to the end of the song and felt the same way when I started. Another thing I notice is the bass seems to really dominate the mix, maybe at the expensive of other instruments. Try lowering it 2-3 dB. -

The "application" is weird, I honestly couldn't answer some of the questions even if I did want to apply. -

The production kinda lacks energy, imo. The elements are all there, but there's something bland in the execution. I'm not sure what would be needed to improve it... more automation, EQ work, layering drum sounds, different synth choices, etc. I'm not sold on the lead synth sound and the bass. Also I would say there doesn't seem to be quite enough top end in the mix, but I could put that down to these headphones, so, yeah. -
Maybe it's these headphones but the beats seem kind of muffled/not bright enough. I always liked this song but could never figure out how it would translate to any kind of remix, so kudos for making the attempt.

I did that for years with a voice recorder, only to accumulate hundreds of vocal snippets that I never did anything with.

Im not entirely sure I understand where Eevee fits into the grand scheme of things vis a vis these mixes, which are random Pokemon songs, but ok. Tunes sound good.

lol at this.

Fit Club ahoy! Where men are bros and women are also bros!
Argle replied to OceansAndrew's topic in General Discussion
yeah it's a pretty strange concept to me. If you look at me you wouldn't think anything but "thin". I have skinny arms and legs, although working out has made some progress that area. yet from my mid 20s onward I've been getting fat buildup in my belly, boobs, and butt. I just put it down to getting older, but it could definitely be food related. I'm already aware of the negative potential of food, having grown up with a ton of food allergies. -

I was reading over the weekend about "skinny fat". I had honestly never heard of this term before, but it seems to apply to me a bit. Probably less so these days cuz I'm regularly exercising. But eating a quart of ice cream for lunch probably isn't the smartest move. -

Yeah, I'm thinking thats the problem. I fluctuate between eating pretty healthy and giving into the dark side. I need to work on controlling the food demons. Just cause I metabolize things fast doesn't give me carte blanche to eat horrible shit. I have one of those scales that measures body fat and stuff. It's almost never above 10% body fat, usually in the 9-10.5 range. But, yeah, that could be off for sure. -

"Borrow" a guitar from Guitar Center for a mix
Argle replied to Brandon Strader's topic in General Discussion
So you want the benefits of an expensive guitar, without the pesky paying for it thing that most folks do. Got it. I certainly hope the salespeople are on the lookout for cheapskates with laptops. -

Jeez, you young punks. I started in my early 20s. I'm a doddering old man now.

So, yeah, I've been wondering about this for awhile. I'm pretty thin, <= 10 percent body fat I reckon. Metabolism is quite fast, always has been. Yet I still have a bit of a pouch going on my belly. Its quite perturbing. All these crunches and stuff I'm doing are for naught if belly fat is covering it up. Yet I'm not a fatass, so what's up with this? Harrumph.
