  1. I think of you as the guy who plays acoustic instruments. Which makes Modus' comment all the more baffling, given the nature of this product.
  2. I think a more proper term is virtual instruments. You're looking for virtual instruments that sound good. Synthesizer implies something that produces sound via oscillators. which may be what you want, or you might need pianos, drum kits, other acoustic instruments. it all falls under the heading of virtual instruments. Reaper is an awesome program and my DAW of choice, but the problem is it doesn't have any virtual instruments of its own. so you'll need to find ones to pair with Reaper. or you can invest in a DAW that comes with virtual instruments.
  3. People should make what they like. A lot of the OCR dubstep tracks don't do a lot for me, but I think that's cuz they're not produced very well and sound messy. The new one Forrest of Illusion is a good example. On the other hand Rockos' track is interesting and well done, the fx complement the music rather than getting in the way. Dubstep is actually pretty goddamn hard to do really well.
  4. Shockwave Sound has a lot of nature soundscapes for cheap.
  5. Darn, I'd like to try this but I'm going out of town starting Friday.
  6. I don't think the dryness is a problem, most hip hop is pretty dry. I do think the kick and snare could be weightier. Otherwise, cool sound.
  7. I've owned it for a year or two. Condition is somewhere between very good and like new. It's been used very little; not a knock on the Electribe, I've just discovered that I'm a software guy through and through. I'll throw in the SD card I bought, so you're ready to make music right away. Comes with the power adapter, manual, the whole works. I think I even have the original box. My price - $350 (includes shipping and insurance). PM me if interested.
  8. omg. I never thought I would see this day.
  9. Go to Prefs->Audio->Device and experiment with different devices. You don't need an audio card for Reaper, but some tinkering may be in order. On my work machine here I have Direct Sound set as my device, and it works no problem.
  10. On second thought I've completely overextended myself. I'm sure other people can do this a lot sooner than I can.
  11. What?? Bad movie? Does not compute.
  12. Some drum sample pack from Computer Music magazine like 6 years ago. I've gotten a lot of use from them.
  13. I don't buy movies I don't like. Actually I don't buy movies anymore at all. On the game front, the last crushing disappointment I can remember is Prince of Persia 3D. Coming from the excellent Sands of Time series it was a real shock.
  14. FF4 is a great game, very enjoyable, but IMO the plot is laughable. Yet when I was a kid I didn't really notice how silly it was. And as an adult I can't bring myself to slag off the game for that reason. Damn you nostalgia.
  15. I played the early FFs during my childhood/teen years, so they had a lasting impact on me, as do many things during that age. I think that's why we cut them slack.
  16. That's one of the few Castlevania songs I'm familiar with. I could take a whack at it if ya want.
  17. It has something to do with resampling. I always use the default. I assume the higher settings are for crazy people. The input setting doesn't matter if you don't have a keyboard.
  18. Yep, alt-drag the side of an item. You'll see a Rate label appear on the item to show how much you've timestretched it. Yep, go to the Track Envelopes/Automation button on the TCP. Click the visible box for anything you want to see. Incidentally, the action FX: Show/hide track envelope for last touched FX parameter is very useful. Wiggle a parameter and run the action. Assign it to a key and it's much quicker than searching through hundreds of VST parameters for the one you want.
  19. The demo project All Through the Night is located here. To find yer plugin, open up the FX Browser and type the name into the filter list. If it doesn't appear, check Preferences->VST to make sure the path is represented. If it still doesn't appear, make sure you actually installed it correctly. I've never had trouble getting other apps to produce sound while Reaper is running. Check this. Make sure top box is checked. If it doesn't work, try the other one. If it still doesn't work, post on the Reaper forum. The demo works after 60 days, but by the Reaper TOS you must either delete it or purchase a license. I know, treating people like responsible adults instead of criminals, who'd have thunk?
  20. If you don't have a beta ready, my advice is don't bother with music for now. I've seen too many failed projects that focus on music early on.

  22. I can't even do a couple of those. Not really. I'm going to go kill myself.
  23. That's sad to hear. Never was a Slayer fan, but 49 is too young for anyone to go.
  24. I own the 4040. Never used it on vocals but it does a pretty good job with acoustic instruments. It's not as harsh in the highs as some of the cheaper mics I've used. SM7b is a classic broadcast mic and frequently used for rap and screaming vocals. It does a great job of ignoring room ambient noise. That said, dynamic mics tend to require a fairly nice micpre to get the most out of them.
