  1. Aw yea. Great job on the quick release after the bit of dramarama. Yay, this gives hope to interminable remix projects everywhere.
  2. Agreed. I think that's why some male gamers get really defensive about it... "What, me, sexist??!" But that's really what it is, societal sexism, when we accept it as natural for the woman to be rescued in a game (or movie, book), while the male characters can make their own escape by strength, intelligence, or guile. That's not to say all men are horrible or anything, which is not the point of this video series I don't think.
  3. Length is definitely a problem, since there's nothing approaching the source until 3:30. It feels like a 3.5 minute remix bookended by an original track.
  4. God damn, that's a seriously epic thing to do. Is that the same guy who replaced the gender text in some Zelda game for his daughter?
  5. Somebody get on Super Mario Land. DO IT.
  6. Yeah man, if reducing the width sounds better go right ahead.
  7. Maybe the nasty shit people say online has some actual bearing in the way they think? I know I for one have never felt the need to use violent, misogynistic, anti-semetic language. Even in jest.
  8. This is just embarrassing.
  9. Sure, if a sound is too wide. Mixing in mono is a different thing, though. I hope we're on the same page here. Mixing in mono doesn't mean you render the track in mono.
  10. Not buying it. The level of misogyny, threats of violence, rape, death threats, and even anti-semitism she received goes well beyond garden variety trolling. She struck a nerve with this project, unfortunately it was in a bunch of dudes with some real issues towards women.
  11. Some tasty links now in the original post to pique peoples interest. Lots of great 8-bit tunage. I pulled the tracklist from.... somewhere, don't remember. Hopefully that covers everything.
  12. Agreed. As a guy who has played video games most of his life, grown up with these tropes, never really thought about them, my first thought upon watching the video was not anger or defensiveness, it was, "hmm, yeah, she's right." Clearly there are a lot of dudes who feel that the good old boys club of video game culture is somehow being threatened.
  13. The problem is, the commenters on her Youtube channel weren't "critics", they were saying shockingly misogynistic and even anti-semetic things. That's not a critique, it's trolling of the most knuckle-dragging caliber.
  14. The Width knob in controls the stereo width of the track. That said, if you want to flip your mix to mono to listen, the Master track has a dedicated Mono toggle.
  15. Yeah, it's kind of embarrassing when you see all the examples. Are there any games that have female protagonists who are not a damsel in distress, or hyper sexualized, or both?
  16. This is going to require internet to play? Pass.
  17. Are we supposed to adhere to an NDA when we enter contest tracks? Something I've wondered for awhile. Anyway, track seems a bit empty. Not a fan of the drums, they seem too dry and aggressive for the style, I think some brush drums would be more appropriate. Snare in particular sounds like a stock sample from a DAW.
  18. This is perhaps the first time you can use the words "AARP" and "great job" in the same sentence.
  19. If anyone likes podcasts, Graham Cochrane and Joe Gilder have one called Simply Recording. Also Joe Gilder has a solo podcast called Home Studio Corner. If you're like me the audio podcast is the best thing ever for your commute/work/anything else, and it's good to hear people talking shop about recording.
  20. This is astonishing work given the stone age release date of 2001. Production is really good for a time before the VST and DAW boom. You were making sweet tunes before I even started to make music at all.
  21. I'm only helping out so this darn thing gets released.
  22. Actually, a lot of the Beatles tracks sound better in mono. Here's the thing, checking your track in mono is not for the faint hearted. It usually sounds awful, and requires some deft EQ to get things sounding things ok. Will it ever sound as good as stereo? Course not. But it's a useful tool in your arsenal to getting a good mix.
  23. Big improvement! There's an instrument in the center, not sure if it's the autoharp or toy piano, has a peaky resonance sticking out. Try EQing somewhere in the 300-500 Hz range.
  24. That reminds me, all of the numerous ways for Leon to die in Resident Evil 4. My fav is definitely decapitation with the chainsaw, although getting impaled in the face by that Wolverine guy has its appeal too.
  25. Right you are, and I am an absolute retard for not seeing that. reading comprehension FTW. Yeah man, there's plenty of good stuff for Kontakt, but wait for a sale (unless you're made of money). As for Composer's Collection, I don't think it ever goes on sale. That said, if you wanna hold out for one of the frequent EW sales you can get 2 for 1, maybe the orchestra and Stormdrum.
