Game Recommendations for an 8 year old
RealFolkBlues replied to Legion303's topic in General Discussion
Boom Blox 1 and 2. Seriously great games, and a lot of fun for the whole fams. Lego Harry Potter 1 and 2 if he's a Potterhead (which he should be.) Mario, natch. Obviously more Zelda is always fantastic. -
Happy V-day OCR!

Hi everyone! Travel Help Appreciated
RealFolkBlues replied to Hyperion5182's topic in General Discussion
Hey man, I noticed this thread got no responses. You're referring to Beacon Theater in New York City, I would assume? If so, what's up OCR? Got some suggestions for what to do? I hear New York is somewhat busy. Hopefully you guys can come up with something fun. -
A script to keep your OC ReMix library up-to-date

Hell yeah! That's awesome! Way to use your knowledge for the good of nerdkind. I don't suppose this would work with Windows Media Player? I know, iTunes is better, I just haven't gotten it yet and have my stuff in Windows Media. -

^Lol. I assume that's hating on me. What's your beef with TP, Bleck? -
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
RealFolkBlues replied to DarkeSword's topic in General Discussion
Yeesh, didn't wanna come to this thread in case of spoilers (just borrowed Skyward from my brother and I just got to the fourth dungeon,) but if we're weighing in on the various Zelda games, I feel somewhat obligated to chime in. I effing love Zelda. I've beaten all of the games except for Zelda 2 and Spirit Tracks (no, I'm not counting the horrible CD-I games, thanks.) I have the Master Sword and a Hylian Shield hanging up in my bedroom. I have a frickin Triforce tattooed in the middle of my back. Anyway, I'm REALLY enjoying Skyward Sword. I'm trying to reserve my judgement until I finish it, but I'm already tempted to call it my favorite. Previously that accolade belonged to Twilight Princess. I can really only find one fault with TP, in that the items weren't implemented well outside of dungeons. Other than that, the case could be made that some of the early wolf parts were a little blah, but I enjoyed them. I agree with Malaki when he said that TP felt like the realization of the direction they were heading with Ocarina (another strong candidate for best Zelda.) It's a HUGE Zelda game on every level; content, length, epic feel, emotional impact, etc. I love that game something fierce. As to Wind Waker, I love that game very much as well. It has many fine qualities, and perhaps the one that I enjoy the most is just how whimsical and charming it can be. It does have one glaring flaw, though; the end game Triforce hunt is pretty damned annoying. It's one thing to be sent on a collectathon. It happens alllll the time in games. But the sheer time and effort required, not to mention the ridiculous timing, really made that one a new breed of lame. That having been said, the end was WELL worth it. SO EPIC. I saw that you guys were discussing Majora's Mask as well. I feel like MM is the most unjustly forgotten game of the series. I know, everyone loves it and is always talking about how brilliant it is, but it always seems to get swept under the rug when put beside the big, epic Zelda games like TP, Ocarina, or WW. The thing of it is, MM is more of a personal journey, rather than the world-altering quest. This is despite the fact that Link still saves a world. It just feels more personal in MM. Really, it reminds me of Link's Awakening in many ways. Needless to say, it's fantastic, and up there on my list, but yeah, I like the big epic Zeldas more. C'est la vie. Skyward thus far has felt like the marriage of TP and WW, and that is a potent combination. Throw in the terrific combat (the realization of what we all hoped the Wii could do from the get-go,) and I feel like I'm gonna have a hard time not calling this one the best. We shall see. Ummm...I wrote a book. Sorry. I JUST LOVE ZELDA, DAMN IT! -
Happy birthday!

Ha yeah great minds think alike! Seriously though, I work out at the Y, and they are a good gym (especially for a parent,) but good grief I'm tired of their pop station being on all the time. They have a pretty decent classic rock station, but still, you can't beat working out to some badass OCR. Yeah, this is all great stuff, guys! I will throw in some of my own suggestions, as well, for everyone else who is in the same boat. This is obviously some of the older stuff, but hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Megaman X3 "Memory" Megaman X3 "HouseHornet" Megaman 2 "WindShear" Megaman 3 "Get Down" So yeah, Megaman mixes are generally pretty awesome.
-
Hey guys, I need your help. I haven't been on the site for a while and haven't had much access to the music in the last few years. So, I need you to recommend some good mixes for working out. Obviously, I'm probably looking for more upbeat stuff than anything, but any genre is good. I don't think I need to say this, but just as a disclaimer, this is NOT a favorites thread. GO!

Takin an interest in the skins, huh? Good man. DANNY CAREY. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHJbeDqdjqI Seriously, though, behind Peart and Portnoy (in that order,) he's probably my pick for the third best drummer currently in show biz.

This is a pretty good argument. I like the aesthetics of the university shirt better but yeah, it could just be written off as another ironic t-shirt. A possible counterpoint to Jillian's (what happened to PixieTricks?) argument is that the shirt still prominently displays OCR's great logo, which has drawn a lot of interest from my OCR schwag over the years. Pound for pound, I think I would buy them both. That way I would have bought all the various OCR shirts that were available through the years.
-
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback! I'm feeling pretty good about it pound for pound, and will probably give it a shot within the year. Thanks OCR!

Jeez. See, that sounds nuts no matter how shitty the service is.
-
Yeah, that all makes sense. Still, seems a viable option for po folk such as myself. Fees and staff we could put up with, but how shitty are these airplanes exactly, as my wife and her parents are not too much into flying? I personally wouldn't care (you're more likely to be struck by lightening than to be killed in a plane crash,) but I don't feel like piling my wife and son into an Air-Yugo would make for the start of a smooth vacation.
-
Brutal. It seems like half the time even if they had a bunch of fees you would still end up paying less. Does that sound right to you from what your sister/past experience has taught you?
-
Guys, forgive me if I'm being e-tarded here (just got a laptop after like 4-5 years being off of the intarwebs,) but have you heard of Allegiant Air? They have some limits about where they will fly from and to and they apparently have some older planes, but they seem to be super cheap. My in-laws live in south Florida, and I found tickets to Orlando for like $33 a person at the beginning of March. Seems nuts to me. Any experiences/comments/flames?
-
Lol, yeah that was me. Thanks DJP! Indeed, that was a lot of fun. Man, I would love to say definitely so about M11 (jeez, I was there at M3 <-old man voice,) but it's tough with ye old family. That having been said, I am gonna make a concerted effort, especially now that I'm back here on OCR.

New Year's Resolutions Thread 2012 Edition
RealFolkBlues replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
Lol, that took me a while. Big ass game. Actually 105%ed it too. That took some doing, mainly cuz beating the original Donkey Kong is hard as balls. Good luck man. For me, getting my anger issues under control. My son is nearly one and I will NOT be a negative role model for him in any way I can control. -
Lol, yeah, that would be awesome. I don't know about bringing my son, though. He's a good boy, but there are few things he loves more than grabbing a controller from someone's hands.

...I don't know what you're talking about. Nah that's strictly for OCR IHOP breakfast meet-ups. Man it's been killing me not going now for years. Especially since the last time I went I got robbed on that Rock Band contest so hard. Yeah man the site looks the same but there is what looks to be a staggering amount of new awesome in the form of those albums. I've started streaming them and am pretty excited. Seriously, EDIT: Oh, and thanks man! I'm back for good, so you'll see me again for sure.
-
Hey thanks everyone. Yeah, no MAGFest this year, as I am currently in Florida visiting my awesome in-laws. From what I've heard MAGFest is gonna be epic this year. Oh well.
-
Hey OCR! A few of the older posters may remember me (posted in gendisc and PPR a bit back in the day and participated in some meet-ups) and I pretty much just wanted to say it's good to be back! The place looks great. I wasn't sure what has changed in the 3-4 years I haven't had good computer access. Anybody wanna give me an update on what, if anything significant has happened over the years, either with the site or its members? Have any subforums been deleted? Is DJP in the games/music industry now? Did Taucer go to the Olympics? Will Lassie get Timmy out of the old well in time? Anyways, hello to all!
-
Hey BGC, it's been a long time for me man. Where should I make a thread (or do people even still do that here) to say hi to everyone? Gendisc? Newbies? It's good to be back though, that's for sure.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
RealFolkBlues replied to BardicKnowledge's topic in General Discussion
Hrrmmmm. That sounds kind of unlikely, but then again, the Big N's customer service is pretty spectacular. Part of why I'm such a fanboy, even now. That having been said, I loved Phantom Hourglass and am looking forward to this one.
