  1. Nah, the original is used more than half the time: melody, countermelody and bassline. :39-1:13 - bassline 1:14.5-1:32 - melody, bassline 1:32-1:49 - melody, bassline, countermelody 1:49-1:57 - bassline 2:34-2:51 - bassline, countermelody 2:51-3:08 - melody, bassline 3:09-3:26 - countermelody 3:26-3:36 - liberal melody 3:40-3:46 - liberal melody There was also the very light sustained string in the background, starting at 1:14, mimicking the sustained string in the original. The irony of Mustin getting this criticism after he's done it to other tracks here isn't lost on me.
  2. http://vgmdb.net/artist/1035 - Buy all the ones in blue listed there, and that takes care of zircon and pixietricks's albums. Can't think of many other original albums from OCR artists offhand. Anthony Lofton also has his original album "Sensational".
  3. Hahaha, that would have been my job, and no one would have voted until I did it. The tone of the bowed strings lacked realism, and the treble was particularly piercing. Could that be pulled back a bit? Same realism issues with the brass. I agreed with AnSo that the soundscape was a little cramped, which I felt pulled this down a bit, since it made the overall arrangement seem meandering at times. However, the overall execution was strong enough. Just throwing out a bonus YES, and of course, welcome aboard, Jay!
  4. Even The Final Summoning came up for Lockdown 1250, and was a direct post, so that's not really cut and dry. Not sure it would have made it through the panel back in '03, and while I voted to keep it for Lockdown, I wouldn't approve it as a submission on the panel, because the direct sampling was too integral to connecting the mix to the original. That being said, haven't heard anything in the mix that shakes me off of a NO. The lead being that identical to the source and the overall instrumentation having such similarities wasn't offset by the new material. That's not to say I didn't think this was a great track. NO
  5. Likely another case here: http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/991379
  6. Haha, it's not ANY holiday album. I'd be skeptical too, but the previews sold me. Moneys transferred.
  7. Because the selection process is not open, candidates who feel they may be qualified to become a judge are discouraged from lobbying judges to obtain a position on the panel. She won, eh? NoppZ gave her the edge.
  8. It's not competing against their CD. That CD went out of print in 1992 (print runs customarily last 2 years). I'm not saying that makes it OK, but there's no direct competition in the first-hand market.
  9. Still an excellent arrangement. I still hear the flaws, but it holds up very well. Really creative, interpretive stuff!
  10. Holy crap, guys. C'mon, turn on those sarcasm detectors. Shall we try for 3 though? Skryp's comments seem to have the staying power.
  11. What's he saying is that you missed Skrypnyk's sarcasm. You did. As far as the original post, TheHands is correct that laziness/apathy is one reason we don't get more negative reviews. Most people need a strong reaction to comment one way or the other. The being said, there are still plenty of negative reviews as well as positive reviews that feature criticisms. I know because I read them all as they come in. Most are from consistent reviewers, but keep an eye on OA and DragonAvenger. Other than that, our music is A+.
  12. http://vgmdb.net/album/10897 If you grab it and you reery rikey, add it to your collection. All you foos out there, sign up!
  13. I don't play RPGs at all , but my guess would be C.
  14. I thought they were mixed in too loudly, and there's definitely the cheese factor, but a dealbreaker? 19 seconds? Couldn't go that far, and I've had my share of dealbreakers. But yeah, just chiming in to say I re-listened, and didn't hear anything that dipped it into NO territory for me.
  15. That was the SuperTux mirror and those links aren't listed any longer, so that's not (and never was) the problem. Are you sure there's a problem with anything at all? Everything works fine on those mixes here. You click the download tab and 3 options are there (Aplus, Dreamhost, ocrmirror.org) to download each mix. Nothing's out of the ordinary from what I'm seeing.
  16. http://www.zophar.net/download_file/12172 - 47b "Mad Monster Mansion (Normal)" I would have preferred richer-sounding strings, and the lead synth at :25 handling the source tune melody was blandly produced. Honestly, the arrangement is good, but the overall energy level and depth of the sounds came off as missing something up until at least 2:24. There's a final level of polish missing to the whole thing that makes the track sound empty despite all of the stuff going on. Maybe the other Js who produce beefy tracks can follow-up on that. I also thought some of the treble was a little grating and that the soundscape got a bit cluttered once Justin's guitar work kicked in. I mean, I hate to sound blasé on this, but I'd rather this got touched up before it was posted, because it sounds like a great late-stage WIP, but a WIP nonetheless. Regardless, I'm not merely passing it because of the time issue (that doesn't matter to me), but because the track's still strong, and the production was still capable despite the gripes. The arrangement more than carries it, and I liked the creativity of the interpretation a lot. YES
  17. ROFL. Yeah, you just completely forgot the point of patents and the protection of intellectual property. You're internet logic-ing wrong.
  18. http://vgmdb.net/album/10633 http://vgmdb.net/album/1824 That info can get you looking in the right direction for the album. There's no PSF2 set of the soundtrack yet.
  19. Yeah, just make one thread. If you want to learn more about the actual album the soundtrack's on: http://vgmdb.net/album/256
  20. Not finalized yet, but we're workin' on it. BTW José & Shael, did you see if the OCR logo was in the startup screens?
  21. Well, if you wanna purchase it online, http://astore.amazon.com/overclocked02-20/detail/B000VO8O6W, we receive 6% to pay for bandwidth, and it doesn't cost you anything extra.
  22. Dave Wise and Richards Jacques were there? Bah. Too many "wow, that's cool shit" events to be jealous of lately. djp worked out the specifics and will correct me if I'm wrong, but IIRC, that was all Tommy's idea, and he generously provided the costs of making all of the CDs and going above and beyond the call of duty to promote the site during the concerts as well. And yeah, that's because Tommy's as big on proving the staying power of VGM as many of us. djp provided the design for the disc labels. The creation of the VGL/OCR promo CDs is one of the reasons we were asking people to get the hell on board with the Content Policy, because for physical (non-profit, of course) distribution, we really wanted everyone to be on board and have the chance to have their music heard. Yeah, we actually have a really solid UK presence, so some people MAY have attended, but I have no idea. 2 judges, Malcos and Fishy, are British, then there's several other ReMixers like Binster, A Scholar & A Physician, RichBRF, DistantJ, Rexy, BenCousins, Chris Abbott, Ellywu2, Liquid Neon, and Nick Singer. Dunno, but someone in that group could have attended. Too bad I never saw anyone do a meetup thread. Yeah, I'm sure it's done fairly decently; the release on the EMI Classics label potentially helped. After the massive starts and stops it had, I'm glad it actually did well. Anything that enhances the acceptance of VGM as viable art is good!
