  1. Conditions have somewhat interrupted my flow. Mainly, I've had to move from my one dorm to another one over the past two days. It's not like I haven't done anything though. The heavy lifting should count for something. But I didn't do anything that really isolated any one muscle group. On Friday, I tried to do a handstand and I failed. I should have figured that someone who couldn't bench to much couldn't do a handstand... and well... there you have it. Today, I found out the gym closes at 7 PM during summer hours. I got there at 7:30 PM. Anyway, I guess that serves me right for going into New York City and getting a haircut. (But I needed one as I'm going to a rather formal event next weekend...) I am adjusting my schedule for the summer and definitely will be going tomorrow. Also, I'd like to bring up an issue. This just might be exhaustion. But I went running for two days in a row last week. On the third day, I was very winded after running only one mile. Does this happen to you guys too? I stretched and everything and I felt all right. It just felt like I hit a wall very hard... a lot harder than usual.
  2. Keep taking pictures! No matter what camera you have, as long as it's halfway decent, you'll get a good photo as long as you capture the moment correctly. But I find that with professional gear, it's much more versatile so you can adjust for the what you need at a given time. Even if you don't take artsy type photographs, it's always nice to have some sort of souvenir from a vacation or something that has a lot of sentimental value. I feel guilty sometimes when taking those types of pictures with my camera. But I have to realize that it still is a good picture even if I can't directly see its worth at the time. If you check closely, some of my photos aren't even taken with my SLR but with digital point and shoot cameras. Yeah, I think there's a lot more money to be spent... But if I spent close to 5000 I think that maybe I would be done with buying lenses and stuff. Still, they could also break and you'd have to re-buy a 1000 dollar lens or something. They're just ridiculous if you ask me. Anyway, the two images you mentioned are my top viewed ones. The exhibit picture was surprisingly more popular than I had initially thought. People in general seem to dig panoramas. They often get a good number of views, but I have a problem of taking panoramas with anything actually interesting in them. I would like to be able to take pictures of people or even street photography. I've asked a lot of people already, many have said no. Maybe it's my social skills or something, but it's just hard to find someone willing. I did have a friend "model" for me, but we were just mainly hanging out and I was attempting to catch candids. But I often failed. My last resort is to use craigslist to search for models who will trade their time for pictures. I know more of you people are out there. *cough* McVaffe. Don't be shy!
  3. Hey. I was just wondering if anyone on the forum pursued photography as an interest too. I think that G-T and a couple of others do. But it's been a while since we've had a thread about this. Anyone who wants to get into photography is welcome to post as well! There are some fundamentals that I can explain, but not so much specifics on gear. There's just a lot of gear out there. Currently, I'm using a Canon Rebel T2 (300x). It's a film camera, despite digital gaining loads of popularity. Though film seems to be a bit outdated, there are a good number of advantages of using film over digital. But in the end, it doesn't particularly matter which format you use. The lens I have to use right now are EF 28 f/2.8, EF 50 f/1.8 and EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5. My favorite films to use as of right now would have to be Kodak Tri-X for black & white and Fujifilm Superia 400 for casual color shots. This weekend, I'll be attempting to shoot with some Kodak Portra 400 NC. Imma going to my cousin's wedding. Anyway, photography is a great hobby that makes you go out and do stuff like travel or explore. But it is arguably one of the more expensive hobbies. I've already spent around about 500 dollars on everything so far and I'm just beginning too. If anyone wants to check out my stuff, I made a flickr account just about a month ago. http://www.flickr.com/photos/26002162@N04/
  4. beatdrip (actually that sounds kind of disgusting...) HAPPY HANGOVER!
  5. I would check your browser's download options to find where it saves them. Otherwise, check temporary internet files or even the TEMP folder for files that look like familiar downloads. The TEMP folder can actually have useful files in there sometimes. Try not to mess around with it much. Still, having something saved on your computer will not decrease the amount of memory you have, only hard drive space. If memory is a problem, then you should be able to dump anything left in it by restarting the computer. If Firefox tries to restart the previous download through the DTA, then I would remove DTA completely, and restart the computer. It could be that DTA triggers a memory leak in FF with large files, but I'm not too familiar with the add-on. If that fixes the problem, then you can reinstall DTA, but try not to download big files any more.
  6. No matter how good you are at rings, I doubt any of you will be as good as this guy. Also, best dismount ever. EVER... and I mean it.
  7. Without the bar. I have to use this machine for benches that doesn't have you push an extra weight. I don't like it compared to the traditional bench press. I don't exactly know what I don't like about it yet. There is one on another floor of the basement, but I need someone to spot me and there's hardly anyone at the gym in general when I go... lose/lose situation. haha, taucer joined the girls. jk. jk. They would kick my ass in flexibility work. I'm like an old rubber band with the crusty stuff when you stretch it out.
  8. Hey guys, I guess I should probably make it "official" that I want to get in better shape by sharing it with you all. I am 5'9" and approximately 135 lbs(?) I haven't checked my weight in a while, but that's a rough estimate which should be correct. My problem is that I'm skinny and I've just lost of a lot of muscle mass over the years. I think that my diet is fine how it is. Of course it can be better, but overall, I'm not eating anything that will put me harms way. With the summer coming up and me being stuck at school at the same time, I figure that the gym is way accessible and I should take advantage of that. GOAL: bench 90 lbs reps run 5 miles in an hour (both to be completed by the end of the summer) PLAN: Bench, inclined bench and run just about every other day. Work on other muscle groups, (abs, back, biceps) in regiment Currently, I am benching about 55 lbs, 4x12, for both normal and inclined. As for running, I am consistently running 2 miles in about 15 minutes, if not a minute or two longer. Usually, I find that I am too conservative with my weight lifting and don't increase it when I should. It takes a long while for me to feel "comfortable" with a weight. It's not that I can't push more, I'm just afraid of hurting myself.
  9. I am not too sure how resource heavy FL Studio and other audio or mixing software are. zircon's upgrade (which was a while ago) seems to leave me with the impression that mixing, at least a decently high level of mixing, will require some good hardware. Lots of RAM (good speed too) and a fast processor are necessary, and by extension probably a hard drive that can keep up as well. I think that I overheard someone in the OCR irc chat mention having to wait days for something to render on an old desktop. Of course that was months, possibly years ago, but that doesn't sound too great. For anything resource intensive, I would stick to the desktop. Laptops are meant to be used casually, which will then extend their lifetime too. Generally, laptops are more expensive than desktops and you might as well squeeze as much as you can out of your money.
  10. pixietricks uses huggle attack. It's super effective! Chilling at Peabody Conservatory: A spiral staircase, revisited:
  11. part 2: Everyone, jump! Everyone sitting next to each other, except for zircon who is sitting next to poo. DrumUltimA not playing drums: pixietricks attacking zircon and succeeding:
  12. The update: Learning about music and having fun! DrumUltimA in deep thought at Gigi's: OCRemix post-invastion of sandwhich shop: pixietricks using her feminine wiles to sell her CDs:
  13. Ah, yes. It goes 90 dollars used. If it were only 50-70 dollars, then I probably would already have one by now. Don't bank on me whatsoever. I'm going to see if I can make this a homebrew project for myself. I'm going to look into the feasibility of the whole picture... Huh, this will take some more thought then...
  14. Hmmm.. not too sure if I want that PS2 or not. The slim ones can be bought for around 90 dollars new if I remember right. We're probably talking the old fat version though, at least that's what I'm assuming... what would something like this go for? 50-70 dollars?
  15. I still have 12 shots left. I will try to use them as quickly as possible and get it developed. I will bump the thread once I have them available. I guess I don't have to worry too much about the thread dying since Taucer's gymnastics thread is a year old and still going strong! You'll get them eventually... Edit: I hope none of you have very high hopes of that one jumping/shoryuken picture. I have a very bad premonition that it didn't come out well.
  16. You can still join us at the Balitmore meet up via photoshop!
  17. Would I be able to do all forms of the hadouken? I'd like some variety between the blue, fire and the ever useful denjin hadouken.
  18. Does this mean you need the music still? You never specified which year.
  19. Don't forget some sexy stretches. You know people will be looking for those too.
  20. For these group things, I think that the Wii would probably be better. Of course it all depends on what games you have for it. But other people can bring different games too. I think it's safe to say that there will be some Brawl action going on. As for my situation, I think I'm going down to the D.C. area the night before. That way I can get a good night's sleep and then meet up with you guys the next day. My friend is coming along as well and we'll be driving up. Technically, we'll have two spaces in there. Not too sure if he's going to mind too much, but he's fairly chill overall. At the worst, he'll have to move junk from the backseat into the trunk. Also, for anyone driving, I believe that there's a pretty sweet deal for parking near the Flowermart. It's apparently all day parking for only 2 dollars. Check the site and use Google Maps to verify how far it is from the meeting spot, but it doesn't sound too far at all to me. http://www.flowermart.org http://maps.google.com
  21. It's coming up soon. So let's talk about what we can do. It's going to be around lunch when everyone meets up. Lunch! I would like to suggest a fine establishment located in the Inner Harbor known as Hooters. (Just kidding. Don't hurt me, pixie!) After lunch, we could head over to the Flowermart. It apparently has a bunch of musical/dancing performances and flowers (though it doesn't say specifically on the site, I'm sure it's more or less assumed). There is a Flowermart Superstar competition too. If you register for it early enough and there's an available spot, I'm sure you could participate. But the only catch is that you have to register by noon and perform at 1 PM (ends at 2 PM). They also offer a tour of the Garrett-Jacobs Mansion in Mt. Vernon Park, though I have no idea where that is. It looks to be a very fanciful looking piece of architecture inside and out. Outside of the Flowermart, is there anything anyone else wants to do? Don't be afraid if others might not want to do it. The more suggestions the better. Is there any way we can walk around Peabody Conservatory? Some schools are more strict with their security than others. I would like to do this, since I haven't been there before, but I know that returning members might not want to. If anyone wants to toss a frisbee around, I'll make sure to bring one with me just as long as we don't lose it in the Harbor. :0 I suppose we spend the afternoon together then eat dinner. Is anything planned after that?
  22. It's basically a guitar/banjo. So you're looking to have a good build quality, body and strings. Other than that, nothing much. All I know is that there is a very small difference between an authentic Japanese shamisen and its Chinese relative. I believe it's a difference in materials though. Modern shamisens probably do not use skins of animals like the old school ones used to. I wouldn't know what they would use. You probably want one where you can tune it with fair ease as well as being able to maintain pitch. For violas or violins, they use rosin powder to adjust the pegs to their liking. As for the pick you use, just get something functional. No reason to ball out for some made from super high tech stuff or expensive ivory (yes, they exist). If you're just starting to learn to play one, you might as well start with a cheap one and then later upgrade to a high quality one. I think the bigger question is finding a reliable dealer.
  23. While your father is right to a certain degree, I highly doubt that a gang will hang around the theater of a Broadway musical. Also, is Avenue Q still playing? It's not going to be playing forever. Sometimes they go on tours.
