  1. This is just a guess out of the blue, but did you update Java? It's probably not the browser itself, but something else. Java is the only thing that comes to mind if it's not javascript.
  2. What version of Firefox is installed? I hope not beta 3. Try installing NoScript and not allowing google-analytics. But first check out other browsers if they have a similar problem as well. NoScript is a pain if you're always going to new sites and having to allow every single site that's linked to a site because of the nature of the extension.
  3. Use Tag&Rename. It's wonderful at batch tagging.
  4. One can only wonder what would happen if I entered. In my mind, I would win it all, the CD, meeting Nobou (whom I'd affectionately call Noob) and getting pixietricks as my lover.
  5. I agree. There are a lot of games out there and typically, every new generation of consoles has a shorter and shorter lifetime now. But even with these realizations, I still feel old when I talk about some games, especially younger people. My most recent experience was when I was talking about the Tony Hawk series versus Skate with the younger brother of my friend. We both agreed that the series has gone downhill, but he was talking from a perspective of Underground and on while I was coming from THPS2. Just don't really tell me the year things came out and I'll be okay. It's said when I find anniversaries for items. Last year was the 20th anniversary for Final Fantasy. I bought a FF OST from CDjapan with a discount and got a bonus item. I can't believe it's been 20 years. This kind of brings to mind what I might do when the 20th anniversary of Chrono Trigger rolls around. I just really don't know. I better be able to get some awesome merchandise on that day. Other than that, I just might sit around and do nothing for a good 30 minutes pondering my existence. Then, New Game+. I've always been a gamer and I think I will continue to be. Personally, I think that the age of some games turns people off. Children in this generation are missing out on a lot of good titles. Some parallels can be made. I can see how Halo is this generation's Doom. But there are titles who deserve honorable mentions since they cannot be emulated in any way. Few are the constant fixtures in the game world like Tetris. Some games I love to death: Super Mario Bros. 3 Ninja Gaiden Sam'n'Max: Hit the Road Monkey Island series Chrono Trigger Final Fantasy 6 Suikoden 2 Warcraft 2 Starcraft Duke Nukem 3D Max Payne Descent (including Freespace) Zelda: Link to the Past It's good to know that some games are made very well like Psychonauts, Beyond Good and Evil, and Eternal Darkness. But it's rather a tragedy that despite being an engaging gaming experience and quite polished, they don't do fantastic. If you haven't played Psychonauts for PC, I suggest you do so. I'm very happy that VC exists to work around the hardware unavailability. But in a more perfect world, every single game ever made would be on VC. (Goldeneye 64, anyone?) ;_;
  6. Alpha 3 is a good game. The Max version has puts the game into widescreen and adds a couple of characters, right? I can't really directly relate anything, but I have played a lot of Alpha 3 before. Sometimes Capcom adjusts some things from version to version which make some significant difference even if it's technically the same game by name (i.e. Alpha 2 vs. Alpha 2 Gold). But with any Street Fighter game, you have to really get used to the animations of each move and the hit boxes. Familiarize yourself with how far and how fast each move takes to execute. In general, faster moves are safer as other people cannot poke back when you're retracting your punch or kick into your normal stance. However, they're usually very short in range and don't do too much damage. Stronger moves are slower, do more damage and also tend to knock down your opponent. I think a very good example of animations and hit boxes would be overheads. Typically, they're attacks that target high, rather than low. Blocking low all the time is probably a good advice most of the time as it protects you from mid and low attacks. If someone uses an overhead while you are blocking low, you're going to take damage. Recognizing an overhead would allow you to move from a low block to a normal blocking stance and not take damage. It's mainly reflex though when you're on the receiving end. But you can use it on people who block a lot to keep them on their toes. When I think of an overhead, it would be Ken's, f. MK. After doing that, you can move onto priorities of one move versus another or as the Pretzel said before, superiority. I find that the shoto's (Ryu/Ken/Akuma) j. FP has a fair priority over other moves and even some anti-airs. The range isn't too good compared to the j. RH, but it's more reliable. Priority doesn't just extend to regular moves, but also special moves and super moves as well. Traditionally, the dragon punch has the highest priority so you can't really touch anyone during the upswing of the dragon punch. Some adjustments have been made to it so it isn't as dominating as before, but it's still a very effective move. Take note of this while playing as or playing against a character that has one. Alpha 3 in general is slower than your typical Street Fighter game. Characters kind of float in the air a bit longer than they should and are still vulnerable to be hit again. The game just lends itself to air juggling. If you're good at knowing where your hit boxes are, you should be able to do this with ease, if only 2 or 3 hits. Alpha counters, air recoveries, command throws, etc. Those are all in the mechanics of the game. Air recoveries are somewhat useful at times, but don't get into the habit of using them all the time. Falling on the ground is perfectly fine at times since your opponent can potentially hit you again after you recover. I typically use throws to crack the shell of any turtle or to just mix things up. If someone is in the corner and blocking, you can technically walk up to them and throw them. Of course this happens more in human players than computers, but it's definitely a situation that pops up. Another reason to introduce throws is to get around alpha counters. Some characters are more jumpy than others (Chun Li, Bison, Vega) or players might simply use jump in attacks a lot. To stop them, you can typically alpha counter. But check the flip side of this situation, if you were the one jumping in, and they were the one countering, you would be the one getting punished. To get around the counter, I would suggest to mix in an empty jump into them and then throw. They would be expecting an attack and attempting to counter, but there's nothing to counter if they don't go into their block animation.
  7. Programming for the future severely reduces the amount of present sales you're going to get. But I guess they already knew that to begin with. That's they're problem, not everyone can be like Blizzard. (Starcraft on 16 mb video cards! ) If you're really looking to play future games, 2 gigs is definitely recommended. I have 1 gig, but I only play older games like HL2 and older. Everything for me runs smoothly and without a hitch. It's all good. But I'd shudder at the thought of running other games on my system.
  8. Agreed. Windows Movie Maker is probably you best bet for availability too. Personal issues I have with it is that audio isn't always synced with video when importing from an outside source like a miniDV. Since it's only for a commercial and not some dialogue heavy material, you should be okay.
  9. Yeah, with Tetris, you can almost use any sort of music because it's just really blocks. Otherwise, I would have suggested going for a electronic remix of classical pieces. You could use some classical pieces, but not electronic. I just thought of this but something from Balloon Fight would be cool. Just throwing it out there.
  10. Games are still fun. But I rarely have time for them. My roommate picked up Guitar Hero 3 for Wii just in the past couple of days and I'm going to see if I can just rush through the songs while he's away. It's really the only way I can get any sort of gaming in now. At first I could play RPGs and other somewhat lengthy games, but now I just can't seem to do it with my schedule. By the time the day is over, I make dinner, chill out and then it's already time to go to sleep. Gaming is interactive and sometimes too involved when I just want to space out. I did beat Zelda: Link to the Past the other week but that's just a game I know in and out. Running through it doesn't take too much thought. I still play Street Fighter and other games like that, but as long as it doesn't take too much time. I'm down for it. I also still play a little F-Zero every once in a while.
  11. I too will blame the video card. If your monitor is dead, it will not display anything at all. If you can see the splash screen, then surely it does work. However, if it's not showing anything at all, then it's most likely not receiving any signals. Personally, I don't think that this should happen at all. Being a laptop, they should almost expect you to hook up to another monitor for potential presentations. My laptop works perfectly well with others, but I think even my laptop monitor is installed as a plug'n'play one rather than any specific one.
  12. You got an extra stage. There's only one choice; play it again!
  13. Personally, I thought that this thread would be more geared about what stuff they unveiled at MacWorld '08. Nevertheless, I was actually looking into the Macbook Air before they actually released some details about it. I'm seriously underwhelmed by it. For a ultra-thin and light notebook, it is quite impressive. However, in achieving this, I think that they surrendered a lot of features that would be simply practical. I think that opting not to have the optical drive is fine. USB has become a lot more universal, but it should have more than only one USB connection. If I were using any computer I probably would like to use a mouse instead of a trackpad and it would occupy my only USB port. What if I had to save something to a flash drive at the same time? There are a lot of what if's. But I think they could have all been avoided if they just made 2 USB ports available at the minimum. My second objection is the lack of an ethernet jack. This decision is classically Apple. If you have a product named the Macbook Air, you probably don't want it to be tied down to anything. Still, you could argue that you don't necessarily need to call it the Macbook Air in the first place. Since Apple caters to those who do usually have a little extra in their bank account, making the assumption that wireless is good enough fits their reputation. They don't appeal to the most common denominator and find some pride in their niche community. I guess I just have to look for another thin, light laptop.
  14. with a hammer! But seriously, it's the same with any other business. The people you know, what skills you have available and seizing opportunities when they arise. Of course it's always much easier said than done. I prefer my way better. Hammers are fairly cheap and also effective.
  15. ATI and AMD are together now, more or less. It shouldn't be that difficult to find a pairing between them. With my latest build, I went with Intel and was pretty locked into buying Nvidia just because I really couldn't find a better value ATI card. I would probably go with Intel C2D (or even Quad if you can afford it) for any build nowadays and probably grab a Nvidia 8800GT. As for RAM, pick up Corsair or OCZ. The cost between them might make your choice for you. Also know that there is Corsair Valuselect(?) RAM which is good quality but with slightly different timing than their non-Valuselect RAM. It's very well priced. Mobo-wise, Gigabyte and ASUS are pretty solid. MSI usually has a bunch of features on their mobos, but from model to model, they're not too consistent. But I think they're getting better. Usually after you settle on a processor and a graphics card, a lot of the other components more or less fall into place. There's not much else to do except for personal research on products, consumer reviews and guru reviews. If you want my advice, then you could always post back in here and inquire about certain brands and models. I can't guarantee you anything though, I'm a noob.
  16. I don't exactly know why you're looking at that particular model. There are more direct car adapters for the ipod. I would look into something like this. My sister has something like this that plugs directly into the cigarette lighter and the iPod itself. A lot less bulky, just a wire and two connections, compared to the one you posted. It is slightly more expensive but worth it. http://www.specialoccasionsdirect.com/product_info.php?products_id=17932514 (I don't really suggest this site to buy from. I'm just giving it as a reference.) I don't have too much experience with in-ear phones; I'm personally against ear canals. Though, I do own some Sony earphones (came with an old CD player) that I use occasionally and they are fine. If you go to any electronics store and find out their return policy, then maybe you could just test some out essentially for free. If you're really set on finding earphones, then I wish you luck. If you're willing to settle for headphones, the Senn PX-100 are great in quality and foldable for portability.
  17. I don't know if I can make it. Yesterday, I caught something like the cold but I thought I would be over it by today. Unfortunately, it has only gotten worse.
  18. It might be a little late for that already. Still, many of the employees there don't really know me too well. Only my cousins do, though they should be there over the holidays, they're not necessarily at the front desk. Go check out the OCRemix Facebook group. I'm the creator. (Also, since you haven't said anything refuting my claim, it must be correct!!)
  19. Rum cake is terrible. It is not moist or delicious.
  20. You are looking under processes and not applications, right? If you can't find it, then I would suggest that you restart Windows in safe mode and then run Symantec. Once it finds it there, then it should be able to remove it (if the reason before was because it was labeled as some process it couldn't kill). Hopefully, that'll do the trick. Google search around to find any variants of the trojan and I think you should be okay. Other freeware/shareware applications could be available to you as well. I know that Symantec does make some apps that are specialized in removing a particular virus if it's malicious enough.
  21. We can perform the ReCapitated project in acapella and maybe scrounge enough for subway fare.
