  1. Really? ..... Really? You weren't expecting the title theme? It's probably the best track (closely followed by Phendrana drifts) that is original to the game. Yup, this is good. Granted, I have listened to the metroid metal remixes and countless youtube covers, but this is fantastic if for nothing else than having that awesome intro. Yup, nothing else constructive to say other than some fanboyism.
  2. Cheesy intro, I can see how that would turn people off; you put out the weakest part of the mix (the synths) all pink and naked right off the bat, and people can't help but notice them throughout. Definitely a shot in the groin with a football. Still, I liked it. It did feel a bit samey in places but that's the genre, arrangement wise no complaints. Good enough to groove to, play zelda 3 to, drive recklessly to, or get into a brawl with several town guards to.
  3. The Mass Effect Soundtrack never really did have any standout tracks, from either game. Both were just "solidly good," which is the way most modern music (with some notable exceptions such as JRPG fare or Shadow of the Colossus.) Well, either that or it is "Solidly Meh." Big Ol' block of meh. Sure, you can always tell the difference in ambience from zone to zone, and events are usually punctuated, but you don't really get the same feel of disjointed musical tracks that you do from older games. That said, you've done a nice job of segregating the more awesome highlights of an already great score, retooling them and then packaging this all very nicely. Also, your sample use has really gotten a lot better, the production in your last few musical outings has really gone up a notch, just shoring up the gap between your prouduction and stellar arrangement.
  4. I was never into cowboys so I didn't play this growing up, so I have no idea what the source tune sounds like: I'm just going to tackle the remix as its own standalone music. Uhhhhh.... yeah. I've got nothing bad to say True to form for the musical genre, the little vocal samples you put in are fun without being gimmicky. The Hat Dance portion made me lol. Yup, that's about it. Good stuffs all around. I'd say it was a bit repeditive, but you are covering a NES soundtrack, in which tracks were notoriously short, and you kept it interesting throughout. And again.. Hat Dance love. Okay, one minor criticism. I wish on your last hit at the very end that you had mixed in that morricone-esque twangy guitar a bit louder. Yup, that's it.
  5. This track overstays its welcome like a couple other on the project. And even a good chunk of remixes posted to the site in general. The last minute and a half could be excised from the track and nobody would be any bit the wiser. "OH BUT ITS MY FAVOURITE THEME GUSH GUSH GUSH." Okay, fine. But there is an issue with how you have constructed the track. You have two climaxes in it, one at 1:45 and the other somewhere at 4 minutes. After four minutes you haven't done anything new or interesting. 4:50 and you have a good place to end the track, even though it has drug on a bit more. What is going on for the last minute and 10? Just... more referencing? I made criticism to zircon's electrodispenser and bLiNd's Jade Catacombs (both tracks that I love and tend to put on repeat for a good half hour each - Jade Catacombs sometimes a bit more) but at least the disjointed ending portions are INTERESTING enough to warrant it, even if it breaks up track cohesion. In this track, unless I am listening for the individual sources and not treating the track as a singular musical work, it sounds like you didn't know how to end things and decided to just keep going... and going..... and going...... I honestly wonder how many people whose comments of "Epic" apply only to the first 3 or so minutes, which are balls tighteningly MELT-YOUR-FACE-OFF-LIKE-IN-RAIDERS-OF-THE-LOST-ARK epic, and then seem to gloss over the last portion. Oh, and yes. I meant what I just typed out - the first few minutes are that good. I was introducing a friend to the project and used the first bit of this remix to convince them how awesome the project could be.
  6. My sentiments too. Awesome mix, well worth way more attention than it is getting!
  7. It's too short! Although that's praise - I really wanted to hear more. Daaamn man! I never heard of this guy, and this is crazy good! Keep it up dude!
  8. COTMM's Chrono Trigger Ruined World track is really awesome to play. It's surprisingly fast and full of interesting hazards and cool colour combinations.
  9. NEED A DISPENSER HERE! NEED A DISPENSER HERE! NEED A DISPENSER HERE! *clunk* Dispenser, Comin' right up! Ahhh... Bloody Brilliant. I will now voice my thoughts which sort of mirror other peoples'. The intro/opening section was absolutely amazing, right from the get go I was loving the groove you had set up. Sort of reminds me of Beatdrop, nice to see you are extending yourself to embrace the raw power of noise. At a minute and a half or so in you change things up and it feels a lot more reminiscent of your earlier work, but I was digging it pretty hard. I could almost grab and fondle the flow basket. 2:22 on seems kind of... tacked on? It's such a disparate jump from what you had going on the rest of the mix, I mean I can see how you build up again to something groovy and raw and toss in some amazing percussion, but did you really have to drop it and then build back up to that? The issue I have is that you spend so much time rebuilding yourself that by the time it is all clicking and popping in place it already ends. And I am left feeling as unfulfilled as Bruce Willis being cast into the part of a middle-aged dad in some teen romance flick. Without shooting anything.
  10. This is by far the best thing to come out of the remixing community since the sliced bread pudding cup. That's right! It beats out the awesomeness of not having to own a knife with the awesomeness of having your tastiness whenever you want.
  11. Hmmm.... Who is hating? I actually liked the track, the production doesn't actually bother me that much. Sadly though, the track comes directly after "Backwards Room" on the album which kind of makes it seem that much more unrefined. Still, this got posted, with good reason. There really isn't anything else like this on the site, and I do want to hear more here with some better production and vocals AT LEAST as tight as these. Well, these are a high standard, but that's what setting the bar is about, right? Anyways, don't beat yourselves up over the production that much. It's not so bad that it detracts from everything else going on here.
  12. .... You had me at the intro. Best DJP ever! Well... after the Sveldt, of course.
  13. Woot! Wet Blanket! Should I be less serious? Kinda. OCR needs all the positive attention they can get, but when one of the most discussed and widely praised songs on the site's frontpage is this piece of crap... well.... Fine! Be that way! I still get to be an opinion. As long as my blanket isn't infused with smallpox I'll be okay with being the lone voice of dissent. No, FF tracks don't have to be serious all the time. Tracks don't have to be serious all the time if they are good. I said, Team Gato was fantastic and I loved the hell out of a bunch of the other "Joke" tracks. ROBOVoice was another great one. Oh and I forgot about the Black Market. In order to get praise you should either be GOOD -or- SERIOUS (and good enough for the minimum submission standards.) This is neither. It's trying to be both campy and Indi. Sorry, but OCR doesn't really seem like the place to be both poorly constructed and not taking anything serious. Honestly though, why does anyone care about some guy with a low post count who doesn't seem plugged into the community. Continue to fap eachother off and have a laugh, and I'll take my wet blanket and give an objective opinion about the track. Objective meaning "Not involved with it other than as that of the listener." Oh and RE: OLR. Driivin in a Tooyyoooooota. I love that stuff, but... not here. /me ducks and goes back to hiding, using his wet blanket to give a +1 deflection bonus against flame attacks.
  14. This is awful. Seriously. It was a joke track on the otherwise awesome FF4 project, and I can't believe it was even taken seriously. I mean... honestly. Even as an OCR, how can anyone take this as anything serious? Team Gato has the same problem, but at least Team Gato has good music underlying the silliness. Everything about this is bad. The rapping is loose, and lacks intelligence. The music underneath is repetitive and boring. Just... No. Maybe this would make sense as an April Fool's day flood, but yeesh. Alright, let me qualify this a bit. I love team Gato, but because it has actual game lyrics, and great underlying music. As far as Rap goes, I think you can't get any more controversial or awesome than Niggaz For Life, which was amazing. So the rap thing can be done and done well. As other mixes have proved (Including one very recently posted.) So it's not the style or the decision to have some fun that's the problem here. The fact that it is an obvious joke, like Music of My Groin (which is only "awesome" because it's so retarded) is what kills it.
  15. It sounded a bit too sparse for my tastes. I know it's supposed to be acoustic and unplugged, but maybe bringing the guitar a bit more to the front would have assauged that minor complaint. As far as the vocals go - wow! Fully agree with djp - this song is damn hard. You did brilliantly!
  16. So nice! Had a nice warm smile on my face listening to this. Good take on it. Really, I love what you do with sound in this. Whereas a lot of people would try to dress it up and make it more complex, you bring it down to that lovely melody and show us just how awesome it is. No complaints here, keep 'em coming!
  17. This is beautiful. I almost cried. And not a single, manly tear, I am talking open weeping over something so beautiful. Thank you so much.
  18. This is seriously the "Kefka" remix I've been waiting all my life on OCR to hear. Expansive, true to the source, creepy in that "Kefka" kind of way, and just well done.
  19. .... Amazing. You took the song and blew it out of the water! This is just fantastic, required listening. Serious bravo. You have quite the talent.
  20. Actually it was Both. Unless there was sarcasm in there.
  21. I liked the characterization in the movie a bit more, since in the book Silk Spectre II was a bit flat. Overall much better. I have figured out what I dislike about the ending though. It's not just a fanboy outrage, but more of a thematic one. In the book with a neutral third party (seemingly) ending the fighting, all the characters made decisions based on what they felt was right. There was that excellent scene at the end of the book where Dr. Manhattan walks around with a smile over everyone, then outside and deals with Rorschach. Overall, the characters made their choices whether things were right, and the audience decided whether they felt the choices were ok. In the movie though, Dr. Manhattan himself is pulled into the resolution, and rather than peacefully leaving for his own reasons he is basically forced into exile to maintain the peace. After that, the characters only have the choice of whether to reveal that Manhattan is innocent against his own wishes. It then falls on the audience to make a judgement call on whether they thought what the characters thought was right. Rorschach's book was probably a bit more powerful in the movie though, since I always thought that in the book it was kind of Hokey that there would only be one alien attack but then nothing else and people would be peaceful anyways. At least with a tangible "god" figure you can expect that peoples' fear would help them figure out what is really important.
  22. I love this! Such good stuff, I have literally nothing to say against it.
  23. Wow... This song is so awesome, it evokes such a sad and lonely feeling, and for something this rich sounding that is amazing unto itself. And I love how you bring it back up, the amount of turnaround in this is great. I'm at a loss over how awesome it is. You have captured the emotive qualities, ability to just close your eyes and trance out, and plain awesomeness that makes remixing so great. Bravo!
  24. I can't believe I haven't posted to this mix yet. Les sigh... This mix is very near and dear to me, but for more than just its quality. See when it got posted I was sent on a business trip (alone) to an obscenely hot tropical country, and being from Northern Canada I had no idea how to handle it. It ended up I got really sick and wanted to go home because I was convinced I would die (dehydration + tropical environs + no hospital or view of civilization for a long ways + being a wuss), and ended up spending a lot of time in bed listening to my ipod. This mix came on and I just put it on repeat and rocked out, and having that little piece of familiar (ok just posted but it was still english) awesomeness really helped me out. I think it was just that calming soundfield and hopeful overtone that really clicked, and to this day every time I hear this song come up I just pause and remember. Ok that was sappy, but true. Just thought I would share.
  25. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis are writing for it, so I doubt it will be terrible. It also has a lot of the original talent from the movie, and it seems like they are focusing on what made Ghostbusters good and not just trying to make a crappy game to make a few bucks. I dunno, my expectations remain moderately high for this one.
