  1. I was thinking. Everyone I talk to always buys games once they find out if they are good or not, or they end up borrowing them to try out. But does anyone rent games anymore? I mean... I can admit to renting game accessories when I need them (Extra GH guitars, other peripherals, or old gaming systems such as a dreamcast) but I haven't rented an actual game in like... forever. Is this common?
  2. Probably ._. Oh well, I stand by my hatred for going to movies on opening nights. It's never been a good idea. I used to do it all the time and then when I stopped I started having fun at the movies again. I go for the movie, not the crowds. If people go for the crowds then cool. I just don't get it though... oh wells.
  3. As his popularity goees up, more and more people go to the site and download the flash files, making bandwidth needs go up. Bandwidth isn't exactly cheap, so The Escapist has to make ends meet by upping their advertising, even if it means advertising their own site. By advertising their own site they get more hits in other areas and can start putting more third party advertising around the site in general and make ends meet. Hopefully this situation will resolve itself. It's just too bad that most of the other features on the escapist really suck = \
  4. It's simple really: - The Gambit system takes away any fun you can really have with the game. My gameplay consisted of putting the game on, then changing from AV input to my cable to watch TV for an hour while I navigated around a map levelling up and never dying. - The game requires a huge grind. It's an RPG, why should I sit around killing wolves for an hour just so I can eke out some exp so I don't get killed by a boss fight. - The gambit system doesn't adequately prepare you for boss fights. You have to do some micro-managing for these fights, and as someone that never used the menu too often I ended up spending more time figuring it out in the earlier boss fights than I was actually fighting the boss. The experience should not be "Final Fantasy Excel Spreadsheets embedded in spreadsheets." - The main character was not compelling. At all. He was just there for the ride. And everyone hated him, even the player. - The end boss wasn't really that evil. I didn't get any sense of accomplishment for fighting or beating him. Hell, I'd have been fine with just leaving him be. I mean... what kind of a leader DOESN'T use religion to gain political power. - The game did not have a very good story. This is what final fantasy is about. Big, epic stories with well-rounded characters and enemies, events you actually care about. For what I'm talking about, play FF5 or 6 again. You care about what happens in these games. In 12, I spent most of my time going "so?" - The game doesn't really give you a sense of accomplishment very often. I mean... remember when you get the airship in previous installments and you can start running around doing cool stuff? Even when you get it in 12 it's no big deal. It is for these reasons that I believe that SE has lost their grip on the main FF franchise. I don't expect any good things out of 13. From what I've seen it's nothing but fanservice and anime in motion with numbers randomly popping up over enemies' heads. SE has lost the soul of Final Fantasy, and I don't think they'll get it back. And the whole thing they have allready announced "FF 13 vs"??? FFX-2 anyone? Lastly, you can tell that they are just milking the franchise now, rather than actually putting any effort into their games. Look at their stupid fighting game, and they even had a crappy sequel for 12. Yayy...
  5. Oh it's totally cool that the crowds get into it, that's allright I suppose. The parts I hate specifically are: - The freaking hot theatres - The crowd of people who like to laugh at every stupid joke or funny part of a movie so I miss follow-up dialogue. After watching get smart opening night... no more >.< - The crowd of people who are coughing, sniffling, sneezing, loudly slurping empty drinks filled with nothing but ice and a bit of liquid, letting their cell phones ring - Sitting next to someone who smells. And behind you, someone smells. And in front of you, someone smells. And the friend you went with? They don't smell that bad but if you lean in to them to get some not-smelly air then you are being creepy. Back on topic though, this will probably be a good movie. I think I'll wait a good bit to see it though.
  6. I don't understand why anyone will still care. I mean... FF12 was a total travesty. How can expectations be that 13 will be better?
  7. A couple of the removees are still good. Ocarina Boogie is a must-listen for anyone that visits the site.
  8. I can't understand why you would want to see anything on an opening night though. Seriously, the crowds totally suck, the place is usually cramped, and I can never focus on the movie because of all the retards in the theatre. Can anyone explain how this translates to a good experience?
  9. Is there a video where he actually says that he himself made these remixes? All I can ever see is that he says he made the video which... well it's not actually a video. I mean he isn't giving credit either, but I don't see any real "theft" here. Granted I have yet to go through all his videos...
  10. Hi there -- I just want to express my warm wishes to bLiNd for a steady recovery. I have been a huge fan of his musics for a very long time (the remixes and originals from his site) and would be quite saddened if anything bad happened. I also want to mention that if anyone does want to put something together for bLiNd that I definitely want to help in any way I can. Maybe to counter this feeling that really there's nothing that I can do to help.
  11. Moderately excited for this game. As long as it plays better than the crappy PSX port I'll be happy. Not to mention I need something to occupy my DS for a little while.
  12. I actually really like the album, it's diverse enough within the genre that I can put it on the background and not be bothered or bored, which is a great feature.
  13. Haha I got mine pretty similar. It was in a small-town's townwide garage sale, some old lady was probably cleaning up the stuff she never wanted (the bin that the games were in was right next to a box of hot wheels) so I think it was "the grandkids' toys" or something like that.
  14. I got a bundle of NES games from a garage sale for 15 bucks (Canadian, back when that wasn't worth anything). It had Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy 1, Zelda 1 & 2, Mario 3, and Faxandu. Most of them had their original boxes and manuals too!
  15. I'm pretty sure that people that just want to make money don't care about "courtesies to fellow musicians."
  16. That piano recording you put in there made this 100% better! I also like the intro a lot more, even though you only made some minor changes. I kind of miss the clock right at the end though. Personally I would like to hear it fade in at the end just to give unity to the entire piece. Other than that, I don't have any more constructive criticism. Good Luck!
  17. original: ARRANGEMENT / INTERPRETATION [X] Too conservative - sticks too close to the source [?] Too much direct sampling from original game audio PRODUCTION [X] Low-quality samples [X] Drums have no energy [X] Mixing is muddy (eg. too many sounds in the same range) STRUCTURE [X] Not enough changes in sounds (eg. static texture, not dynamic enough) [X] Pace too plodding PERSONAL COMMENTS (positive feedback, specifics on checklist criticisms, any other thoughts) Wow! Any mix that incorporates a clock is so full of win! Seriously... Hmmm quick breakdown here... :00 to :50 is just the original with the sampled clock and some additional instrumentation. Nice use of the "stairs falling" sound at :48. I like the soundfield you created from 1:01 to about 1:35. It seems a bit empty right now but that might just be the crappy headphones I am using. 1:35 to 1:47... I like that you brought in the source tune again. Still don't like how it sounds directly sampled though. Things get really muddy from about 1:50 on. The decision to use the samples and your piano is a pretty cool one admittadly, the issue is that they are both covering the same frequency range, and are mixed so that I can sometimes not tell when one stops for whatever reason. Everything is sitting way down, and it's hard to distinguish certain sounds. This is compounded by that clock sample, which was great earlier, but is now getting totally lost in the fray. You might want to try replacing that sample of the giants' song with a different instrument, or axing it completely to see how the sound is. Not too sure though, but something has to give there. 2:20 you start doing some interesting things with interplay between the piano and the viola. Good stuff, but I can barely hear it with those samples still clogging up the mix. Check your levels here, bring that piano up a bit and it'll help here. You might want to lower the reverb on the piano sample as well. The drums are pretty good here, the sequencing isn't terribly original but they are doing a good job of helping even out your soundfield. Piano starts doing the ocarina song at 3:09, not a bad idea. It's a nice little garnish on this mix, too much reverb though. There were a couple notes there that hurt. After that, things start to seperate and we get a pretty good sound happening, with the clock stopping at 3:29. I felt kind of ripped off by the ending, you finally had some good stuff happening but you ended it! Closing thoughts: The intro needs a lot of work. The ingame sample of the clock and the giants' song makes this sound pretty harsh and low-quality.
  18. I think I'm the only one out of my whole friend group that mains the "goofy" characters... Kirby, Yoshi, and Little Link. Of course it seems to work out great because nobody expects any of those guys to actually be effective so I get the glee of the surprise kills.
  19. I picked this avatar a long time ago when I signed up because it was the only good Yoshi one at the time. I figured I would stick with it because... yeah.
  20. I would recommend the following 2 myself: Afro Samurai Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (I know there is a second season coming out but even if you only watch a couple episodes it's awesome.)
  21. Bought a Hoodie, will donate 20 bucks via paypal as soon as I remember my password >.<
  22. Long time lurker and fanboy of your music. Totally a fan of both on the site
  23. Easily one of the best tracks on the album. I'd say it was the best but there are so many good songs on the project that it's impossible to single out just any one.
  24. Danny B is one of my favourite remixers, and after his awesomeness in the S3K project, I had high hopes for this. And somehow he managed to exceed those hopes in every way. This is easily my favourite Danny B song (even passing Invertebrate Retreat) and one of my all-time favourite remixes.
