OCR01571 - Donkey Kong Country 2 "Tricky Swamp Style"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I dig the style of this mix; the bass kicking in at 0:18 really does a lot for me. The voice-samples used from 1:47 and 2:23 on don't fit in at all, though; I find them to be rather annoying. Furthermore, the latter half of the song could have used a bit more variation. Good song, but it could have been better. -
Somehow, this one is, at least for me, easier to listen to than ziwtra's release from a few months ago, A dream is not a mission. The chill-out atmosphere is here throughout the whole song, and even the subway noises don't disturb it. Everything just works together very smoothly, and that's what makes a good song. Nice work.

OCR01570 - Shadowgate "Crypt Rock"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Nice, fast song with some very interesting guitar work starting at 2:26. The breakdown from 1:35 on should've been more different from the rest of the song, though; as it is, it just does not stand out as much as it should/could. -
Heh, during my time abroad, I order a shitload of buttons, a couple of sticks and some other stuff from Sanwa for a friend of mine. He now uses the parts in his arcade cab, the Saturn Stick etc.

A white chick playing Chun-Li? Now that's just plain wrong. -
Heh, I actually remember the sig you had for that alt account.

Clint Eastwood. 'nuff said.

Slightly off topic, but I've found sticks to be way better suited for 3D fighting games. There're simply a lot of moves that require you to press two buttons with only a very short delay. And if those two buttons happen to be square and circle or triangle and X, you're pretty much fucked. Actually, now that I think about it, Yun and Dudley have some combos that you can pull off with a stick much easier than with a pad.

Don't get me wrong, I went to arcades (as I wrote in the post above, I watched some matches), but I never spent any money on 2D fighters, simply because I knew I would get my ass handed to me (although, this one time at the Taito Arcade in Shinjuku, the guy didn't seem that ultra-uber-good). I usually went for DDR/Taiko no tatsujin, Initial D, House of the Dead 4 and stuff like that. Also, 2D shmups. Btw, Evilhead, I wonder how heavy your stick is. I have the Real Arcade Pro, and compared to, say, the NeoGeo stick, it's rather heavy.
-
Seeing as how there're no arcades where I live, I have no experience with that (watched some matches in Japan, though). I usually play these games with a friend of mine; we're pretty much on the same level, so it's heaps of fun whenever we go for it.

Heh, Fatal Fury Battle Archives 2 has been lying around my place for 2 weeks now, but I haven't played it even once yet. Capcom's latest fighter is keeping me surprisingly busy. Furthermore, we played some FFRB on my friend's arcade machine recently anyway. One thing I'd like to ask you, Evilhead: earlier in this thread, you mentioned that 98 is the best KoF game. Have you played XI, and what are your thoughts on it? In my opinion, it has replaced 1998 at the top of the KoF series.

A new radio show with Larry? I'm delighted.
-
Now available on PS2 as well; Fatal Fury Battle Archives 2. No. Just...no. Talking about Dudley: I love to pull off his d+HK into hcf+MK. Helluva damage. Soul Calibur: I need to get part 3, so I can form my own opinion on it. SC1 was great, SC2 a major letdown.

His "Space man far away from home" album was really good.

While it is true that this one is rather short, I think that it's actually okay that way. The violin skills displayed here are awesome; however, since the songs consists only of strings, making it longer would probably take away some of the magic, or, to put it bland, make it boring. Anyway, I would really love to hear more violin-goodness from Justus in some collabs; then preferably for 4+ minutes plus a solo. Also, cheezy 80-ish dance music? Bring it on.

OCR01568 - Earthworm Jim "Acrophobia"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
As quite a few folks before me stated, this is rather reminiscent of Silent Hill; definitely not something I would expect to hear in a Earthworm Jim remix. Nevertheless, this is a good one. The chopped guitar adds a lot to the atmosphere. Not a song I fell in love with instantly, but after a few listens, it really grew on me. -
True. But why is it in a list of 2D fighters?
-
Well, once you'll add Dreamcast, you can forget about making a list divided by platforms, seeing as how a lot of the games you mentioned will suddenly turn multiplatform (Garou, CvS, KoF series etc). Just do an alphabetical list and add all available systems in brackets. Also, lol, wtf, DoA in a 2D list.
-
For fucks sake, put SFIII 3rd Strike on that list NOW. Also, KoF XI. Import it, bitches, it's the best one ever. Btw, my Fatal Fury Collection Vol.2 arrived yesterday. Yay.

This is pretty sweet. Nice aggressive energy, perfect for blowing up things. Kinda hard to believe that this is your first attempt at DnB. -
"Sensation" - new compotune for relaxation

It was about time you posted something new. This song should be longer. -
I support this request.
