Hehe, I remember Dumbshit; you posted that one in the first D&B thread in UnMod. I still have it.

I had this stuff on my PC for more than a week, but I listened to it only now. And boy did I miss out on something. This has to be one of your best songs (IMO, of course). I really dig the dark style, and my subwoofer is very happy, too. The part starting at 4:08 reminds me somewhat of Squarepushers, btw. Seriously, more of this, please. Probably with a little more variation throughout the song.

I second Esaka. Been listening to that one recently (chose Esaka as practice stage in KoF XI).

Street Fighter IV - is this the year?
Martin Penwald replied to BabyfaceGlasses's topic in General Discussion
While I support any motion calling for more differences, you have to admit that there has been progress made when it comes to this. The only difference between Ken and Ryu in SF2 was one of their throws; in SF3 TS, however, they and Akuma have different Special moves (some of them), different Super Arts, and some of the standard moves also differ. Moreover, they have a different feel to them; fighting with Akuma will result in something completely different from fighting with Ken. -

SNK also made KoF XI, which is the best one since the great KoF 98 (and in my personal opinion, the best ever). So you can't really say they abandoned their fans; they just expanded their field of interest, hehe. And as far as I know, they're currently producing a new 2D KoF which will feature completely new character graphics, i.e. high-res sprites. -
The yousendit link has expired, so I don't know whether the version I have been listening to for the last few days is the most recent one, but I assume it because of the speed (sounds rather like 133 than 140). Anyway, like I said, I listened to it multiple times, because it is already very good. The intro needs some work (the rain(?) sound you use doesn't sound very good IMO), and the following part is not that interesting. However, once the song really starts at 0:58 respectively 1:12, it all falls into place and becomes awesomeness (same at 3:24). Btw, I'd like to hear the faster version, could you upload it again? Oh, and I also really dig the stuff you did for OverLooked. There can never be enough Happy Hardcore (well, there are hardly any HH remixes...).

OCR01548 - Pictionary "Person, Place or Groove?"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I really dig the beginning with its market place kind of feeling, and I'm very happy that the voices can be heard time and again throughout the song. The piano may not be live, but what you did with it is absolutely awesome. The fade out in the end is kinda lame in my opinion, probably something like the chatter in the beginning would have been better. Great song, even if it's rather on the short side. -
OCR01547 - Dr. Mario "Burning Up"

Very good, upbeat mix which has a chip-tune-ish feel to it (considering the source, this is not very surprising). Like many posters already mentioned, the synths and the organ kick large amounts of rear. My favourite parts are the ones starting at 2:18 and 3:08, where the insanity takes over with some solos. Great work. -
OCR01546 - Donkey Kong Country 2 "The Delay"

Very laid back atmosphere, I dig that. Some parts of this song seem almost like a softer version of what Enigma did. The best thing about it is the guitar coming in at 2:44; really nice. -

SvC Chaos was developed by SNK, not Capcom. -
OCR01545 - EarthBound "Home Again"

First of all, the singing was great. I've heard a lot of remixes with vocals in them, and this one has to be one of the best. Nice work, and I hope to hear more in the future. However, the song itself isn't exactly my cup of coffee. It's nice and okay in the background, but to me, it just sounds too much like a song from some 1990s Disney-movie. Which isn't exactly a bad thing when it comes to production quality... -
Super Metroid: Classical Maridia
Martin Penwald replied to ylwsub68's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Needs more arrangement, as it's basically the same theme playing throughout the whole song. Also, either include a climax of some sorts in it, or shorten the song, because right now, it's 5 minutes of slow stuff. And that's too long. Anyway, I dig Super Metriod mixes, so I hope you'll keep on working on this one. -
OCR01543 - Parasite Eve "PMS"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is a very cinematic song, I can dig that. However, no matter how much I usually like the sound of vinyl, I don't think the crackling fits in here. So yeah, good job, but flawed. Just a minor flaw, though. -
OCR01542 - Super Mario World "Koopa vs. Kefka"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I'm usually not that big on piano songs, but this one is very good. Aside from the amazing piano skills you have, it's not only the nostalgia-bonus which makes it good, but also the organ section starting at 2:00. Great energy there; this part really makes it a worthy final-boss-theme. -

OCR00301 - Q*bert (GBC) "A!Bol Hardcore"

Thanks to the amazing guitar work, this song has always been one of my favourite metal-mixes on OCR. The syths also add to a lot to the atmosphere, the intro being a wonderful example. Dunno, but this really reminds me of the old Command & Conquer games. Good work. -
Well that was an awesome song.

Pump up the drums; they could use it. Also, please do something with the bass guitar. It's just there, sounding the same all the time, and it also seems a little muddy to me. Coming in at over 5 minutes, this is a rather long remix. I think it needs more variation, like maybe a faster section (hell yeah, that would be nice, some real speed in there would be awesome, e.g. from 4:14 on) or some rad guitar or drum solo.

Metroid Prime 2 'Stir of Echoes' RESUB 11/25
Martin Penwald replied to avaris's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Ooooh, left/right panning, always a plus in my book. Maybe I am just imagining things, but didn't this song have something in the background which sounded like rain? Because that was awesome...the stuff we get here in the beginning sounds rather strange to me; I can't really say what it is supposed to be. In my opinion, the whole piano part in the beginning (up to ~1:25) seems unnecessary. Sorry to be so harsh, but it doesn't do anything for me; it only delays the start of the good stuff. The following, more mellow part needs to be extended, as it is made of win and awesome and melody which even someone who hasn't played any new Metroid since Super Metroid recognizes. The livelier part which is next just reinforces my opinion that the whole piano business in the beginning is nothing but a too long intro. Nice work on the outro, although the piano sounds a bit high. Plus, you could add some seconds where we only hear the wind. Keep working, this is some promising stuff. -
OCR01539 - New Super Mario Bros. "Mushroom Maddness"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is a great song, very enjoyable. I dig the vinyl flavour in the beginning, simply because I am a sucker for that effect. Adds a lot of atmosphere. The only thing annoying me slightly is the effect that sounds like a bunch of keys rattling, starting at 1:07 (until ~1:35). The scratching part starting at 2:42 is pure awesome, and gets even better from 2:52 on. Incredible. The raising-of-the-flag bit at the end just rounds it all up. Nice work, I hope to hear more of your work soon. -
OCR00728 - Super Mario Kart "Rainbow Rain"
Martin Penwald replied to Disco Dan's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is a quite relaxing remix. It creates a very soothing atmosphere that goes on for three and a half minutes without forcing the listener to pay too much attention to it. Nice background music, or, as some of the earlier posters mentioned, a good credit-roll track. However, the low end sounds a bit weak to me, and the ending is rather abrupt. I'd rather prefer an ending where all the instruments fade out on after the other, until only the main melody remains. -
