OCR01661 - Metroid Prime 3 "Yellow Valkyrie"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Wonderful arrangement. Although there's a great deal of things happening at the same time, the mix never seems to be overloaded with ideas. It just all blends together very well. Good stuff. -
OCR01659 - Marathon "The Forerunner Mix (Alpha)"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
For me, this does work as a stand-alone piece, especially part one, which manages to set up a wonderful atmosphere. As AS said, coupling the synths with strings was a very good idea. However, I don't really understand why Alpha and Beta weren't incorporated into one song. It seems to me that it would've been possible to link the two together with only little effort. Granted, there would have been quite the stylistic change in the middle of the mix, but it's not as if that hasn't been done, and done well, before. -

Translator wanted for Japanese OCR-related article
Martin Penwald replied to lazygecko's topic in General Discussion
Yep, he's talking about the sountrack of NiGHTS. While you got that right, the video game nerd in me wants to punish you for Granted, the first one is a little hard, but you could've gotten the second one. -
TRANSLATION REVIEW NEEDED: Japanese, Spanish, French
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
I just skimmed the first part of the Japanese version of the Content policy. First of all, instead of seisaku, I'd go with hôshin, since seisaku is pretty much exclusive to politics. 永久 is a rather poetic term; pertaining to law, 恒久 is usually used. This is missing "owner" or something; it says "you're the copyright". I'd suggest to either use 著作権所有者 or change it to ...著作権を持っているのはあなたです。 I guess the gap is there on purpose? This is missing something, too. I'd change it to ...ある広告から得た収益は必ずサイトの経営的経費と... I also changed 歳入, which usually means "annual income", to 収益、which is "revenue" in general. Furthermore, I changed 操作 to 経営的経費, since that's the technical term for "running/operating expenses". 常に、OCRはそのようなリクェストに応じません。 -

OCR01653 - Mario Kart DS "Charade"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Totally unexpected. While the music doesn't really evoke any Mario Kart feeling, the lyrics fit PERFECTLY. I find myself singing them to myself quite frequently. Great work on that. Furthermore, your voice is amazing. Keep up the good work, and I hope to hear many more innovative remixes from you. -
Very nice reinterpretation of the castle tune. Manages to capture the spirit of the original tune while making it into something new and better. Nice. However, there is one thing I have a problem with, and that is the last, the breakbeat part. While it is easily the best part of the song (I can't help but tap my feet to it), it still doesn't really gel well with the rest. Seems like an afterthought to me, tacked onto the end just to be there. As Harmony said, the whole remix would have worked without it, too. Just make your next remix similar to what you showed us here in the last ~30 seconds, and I'll be a very happy man.

OCR01651 - EarthBound "Zombie Lounge"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Mazedude at his best, once again. Not as spaced out as some of his other mixes, but still true to his unique style. As usual, he manages to create a very eerie atmosphere. The only complaint I have is the lenght. Could really have used about 30 or so more seconds. Good stuff. -
If they bring her back, they should get rid of her school-girl costume and give her some completely unexpected clothes. Like a business suit or something. Also, bring back Juni and Juli, goddamnit.

TopGear Track01: Super Eurobeat Version!
Martin Penwald replied to Genesismaster's topic in ReMix Requests
Heh, a Eurobeat-style remix on OCR. That's something I'd like to see. -
OCR01646 - Doom II "No Man Is an Island"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This song sets up a very "nice" atmosphere; dark and gloomy. However, despite the guitar playing being pretty awesome, I wish there was less guitar in this one. Especially the soloing in the end rubbed me the wrong way; maybe because the guitar there sounds kinda thin compared to the rest of the soundscape. -
Maybe the choir doesn't sound 100% realistic, but I personally don't mind at all. What is here was done using the samples in the best way possible, and it shows. I rather enjoy the wall-of-sound style, so I'm really fine with it. Furthermore, the organ solo was pretty rad. Waitin' for the next part, guys.

This is the way I like my remixes; it's not a mere rearrangement, it's a rearrangement which could be used in the same game and would still fit. The only thing that threw me off here are the transitions. The first one at 0:46 is rather weak; the second one is hilarious because of the voice sample, but still sounds a little off. I hope you finish this one.

OCR01643 - Seiken Densetsu 3 "Obsessión Nocturnal"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Diggin' the intro (and the outro); the flute adds a certain arabic element to the mix. The guitar work is, as is to be expected from Sixto, absolutely fantastic, and sounds very clear. Nice work; this is the best guitar-shredding mix on OCR in months. -
OCR01642 - Super Mario RPG "Leafcutter"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Starts off with some very intriguing drumwork. At 1:14 it becomes truly amazing, reminding me a lot of Wingless' Aphrodite Oceanus. I love this part (and the end, where it is used once more). Interesting change of pace following, taking the remix into a whole new direction. Way more aggressive than you would expect after the mellow beginning. Dunno about the electric guitar, though; it's a little over the top IMO. All in all, this is a very nice remix. Good job. -
OCR01641 - Chrono Chross "Who Stole My Stars"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I'm one of the people who actually enjoy the voice sample; it gives this remix the certain something to make it memorable. Reminds me of 90s synth-music. Other than the interesting drums, the thing that I like most about this remix is the very end. I wish the last ~20 seconds would last 3 minutes. Very nicely done. -

I understand getting rid of sigs and other fancy, basically unnecessary stuff in the review and judge decision forums, but cutting down on the navigation by axing the "User CP etc"-bar makes no sense to me, as all it does is make navigation inconvenient. -
OCR01638 - Psychonauts "Psychotic Censors"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is classic Mazedude from the very beginning. Powerful, twisted, sick, wonderful. All at once. Also, the Peter Gunn theme in there is hilarious. Keep up the good work, and hopefully we're going to hear more from you soon. -
OCR01637 - Flashback "Memory Leak Suite"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Many, many wonderful ideas in this one; the section from 2:34 on is my favourite one. However, I, too, must say that the lack of transitions is somewhat bothersome. It's still better to have zero-form transitions that bad ones, though. Also, the soundtrack/Hans Zimmer vibe is definitely there, and I can dig that. Good work, and I hope to hear more from you, probably with transitions next time -
OCR01635 - Chrono Trigger "Gale of Ages"
Martin Penwald replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I can understand that the judges were worried about the level of arrangement up until 1:23; it's pretty much simply a piano version of the song, albeit a very good one. But once you introduce your own ideas, it all falls into place and becomes an interesting remix. So yeah, nice one, but next time please more personalization, and make it longer. -

OCR01633 - Top Gear 2 "Rolling Start"

Funnily enough, Track1 immediately came to my mind when I listened to the remix at hand for the first time. Once again, awesome work by Rayza, bringing back oldschool OCR. Here's to hope that he'll continue down that road and bring us more wonderful remixes.
