Okay so tickets are on sale now and I'm betting they'll go pretty fast. I'm wondering if maybe we could arrange who is coming so we could get seats all in the same section and maybe a group discount. I know if I count my sister and a few friends who are interested, I already have like 5 or 6 people who would come. I suggest Saturday the 11th like Stevo said since that means traveling back will not be as stressful. Hanging out/meeting at either qpa's and/or my place is a good idea. And we could get food either at Eat n Park or Primanti's ( I suggest Primanti's since its a truly Pittsburgh exclusive dinner. Eat n Park is just like every other restaurant chain) Possibly more fun at qpa's/my place after the show. Like I said, I can sustain some people at my place so driving back on Sunday is an option for some. qpa has also expressed the possibility of housing a few people. So for planning sake, who is definite and who is maybe? I'll be updating the first post to help everyone keep track of what's up.

Done. Interesting survey. I am excited to know the results.

Virtual reality helmets only provide visual stimuli, which screens already provide. The only difference is that there are no borders to the "screen" on a VR helmet. It also looks goofy as hell. I have used the Powerglove (and all kinds of devices meant for input/output on body parts) and unless there's some huge breakthrough with technology, these are not going to be anything exciting. These also suffer from the "goofy as hell" syndrome (see VR helmets) I have tried games that use a camera and/or sensors to utilize full body motion and individual limb movement. They are far too inaccurate and annoying. Which one would I like to see? A combination of all three. VR helmets provide excellent immersion. The ability to physically turn your head and see what is beside you is amazing and really draws you into the action. Force feedback and motion sensors provide a level of finesse that cannot be harnessed through analog stick or buttons. And full body motion would obviously complete process. How do we do this with current technology? make a helmet that holds the WII REMOTE ON YOUR HEAD. There are already screen available to attach to cap visors and such to provide a truly "boundless" visual. The wii remote's axis can be mapped to normal analog stick control. Even crouching since the wii remote reads lift as well as pitch and yaw. The wii remote's speaker can be routed into speakers in the helmet The nunchuck controller can be held in the player's hand to used for controls. There's already accelerometers, two buttons and an analog stick on the nunchuk, which should be enough controls with all the looking controls mapped to the wii remote. An added bonus would be using the infared sensor to track your head's movement. BTW if there's anyone with some programming skill who wants to discuss and work on this we should totally do it. I've been thinking about this idea for a while.

So I've been playing through Chrono Trigger...
Cerrax replied to 1337 1's topic in General Discussion
I never even touched Chrono Trigger until about a year and a half ago and I loved it. The story is really what kept me playing. The gameplay is not my favorite and the graphics (while amazing for 16-bit console) aren't anything earth-shattering. The music is pretty sweet too. But really the story is what kept me playing through it. Its one of the few games that if it was done properly would be an excellent movie. -
Shmups have always had bullet time. It's called frame rate drop Its saved my ass more than a few times.

I'm with you Proph. I loved Mirror's Edge and I expect nothing less from every free running game that comes after it. I was referring to actual movements not the gameplay. Mirror's Edge was too simple in that aspect (get from point A to point . But in PoP and AC I can't even choose which beam I want to jump to or which edge to grab. The game just assumes everything for me and that really gets on my nerves. Even moving people out of the way "JUST HOLD B" I was expecting a more exciting experience where you had to time the button presses just right to push people out of the way. Just holding the button is too passive. In the end it's really just which type of game your prefer. I don't mind if a game is somewhat frustrating because it requires a little more precision or few more button combos to work. I like Ninja Gaiden more than PoP even though they do the same moves because I feel like I have more control over those moves in Ninja Gaiden than I do in Prince of Persia. Same thing with Mirror's Edge and Assassin's Creed. There are just too many things that I want to be able to do on my own that the game won't let me, it really kills the experience for me. EXAMPLE: Obstacle- A very high wall with beams sticking out of it to climb on. in Assassin's Creed- Press A to jump to the first beam. Then hold A and push forward to continue up the wall. If you look left or right during this process, you will jump off the wall and die. in Mirror's Edge- Press R Bumper to jump to the first beam. Turn to look at the next beam, then press R Bumper again to jump. Turn and look to the next beam...etc It seems like AC is just removing the more annoying/remedial parts of the game, but it kills the immersion and reduces the skill needed to accomplish the task. I personally think it cheapens the gameplay.

I've always felt Mirror's Edge is the pinnacle of free running. Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed are too simplistic in their approach. I want more choices than just "HIT A TO CLIMB" Throwing dead guards off of rooftops just to see people's reaction was fun and fighting was pretty cool, but seeing as how the free running was a major part of the gameplay and I hated it, that really killed most of the experience for me. Plus I don't like stealth games where stealth is your only option. I know its called ASSASSIN'S Creed, but I'd still like to be able to choose my method for killing. Not everyone is a shadow monkey.

I'd have to say the story of SotC really didn't impact me as much as playing the game. I loved the story, but what really affected me was things like the sheer terror I felt upon finding the first colossus, and the thrill of riding along side the one flying serpent and jumping from Agro onto it's "wings". Those are moments I know a movie will never recreate for me.

Guess the stolen video game sound effect!!

Emergency! Emergency! Prepare for launch! -
Agreed. "Tu Credi (the complete opera)" is favorite of mine Haven't looked into Bloom 06. I just vaguely remember hearing about that whole schtick. I'll have to look into it. And Mary Mary (Stigmatic Mix) is freaking awesome. The only Chumbawamba song I have.

Forgive me Father Baer, for I have sinned.... I. Thou shalt not cheat. Heh, too many to count. II. Thou shalt not use player's guides or walkthroughs except as a last resort. Bought Chaos Legion and the strategy guide (honestly because I wanted the poster inside) but temptation got the best of me and I ended up pretty much studying the damn thing by level 4. III. Thou shalt not disrespect the system of another while secretly desiring it. Actually I don't think I've ever done this. I don't get too fanboy-ish really. IV. Thou shalt not play for someone who is taking a bathroom break. Not so much play as kill them off.... Halo 3 is my main offense of this V. Thou shalt not steal lives or items in a two-player game. I honestly try not to but instinct just tells me to grab it before its too late. Especially on levels where you can't control the scrolling. VI. Thou shalt finish each game that thee starteth. Oh man, just take a look at my Backloggery. Top Gun, Oblivion, Ace Combat, Half-Life 2..... VII. Thou shalt not fling thy controller across the room, no matter how frustratingly difficult thy game might be. Ninja Gaiden on XBox was the only game that I really got frustrated enough with to even contemplate this. But every time I'd wind up and prepare to launch the controller into the TV, I'd remember the $35 floating away and the $200 TV in a dumpster. That image was usually enough to stop me. VIII. Thou shalt watch quietly as others attempt the most simple and mundane levels, battles, or puzzles and not shout out the obvious method of completing them. I have to bite my tongue. HARD.

Haven't seen anyone else posting about this on here. Really well done and just the right amount of cheese. I love it. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/there-will-be-brawl/496-Episode-One Currently they're on Episode Three and I can't wait for the next one! Has anyone else seen this? (I'm pretty sure since it's on The Escapist)

How long has it taken you to musically get where you are today?
Cerrax replied to Gario's topic in General Discussion
1999-First real DAW experience 2005-Joined OCR 2008-First (and so far only) remix accepted So i guess if you count the years messing with digital audio before OCR, it's 10 years. BUT, I do have to say being a part of OCR has greatly accelerated my knowledge of DAW and music in general. -
I love coming up with ideas for games but I'm not too specific on details like the art style, the music, etc. I especially like to focus on gameplay, because I think everything else falls into play once you have solid gameplay to base it off of. I And I feel that I've got pretty good communication and leadership skills to be able to lead an entire game team. I'd have to say definitely designer but I wouldn't mind taking on some of the responsibilities of the producer. I think marketing is one of the biggest points game publishers miss big on.

Hahaha. Sorry dude I've truly been kind of busy. But I'll try and get the part to you very soon! *AHEM* Thanks guys for all the birthday wishes!

Well I can sustain a few people at my house. I live just outside the Liberty Tunnels. I have ample parking and I'm right next to the trolley so getting into town is amazingly easy. Also IHOP/Eat n Park FTW.

Wow. These are all freaking great. I love this thread. Also: Ys FTW

Wow. That Silver Surfer song was bad-ass! U.N. Squadron does not get enough love here. The songs weren't terribly long or complex, but damn are they catchy! And they really set the mood of a Top Gun type game. I was so excited when the Smash Brothers played "Enemy Airforce" from U.N. Squadron at MAGFest http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtJlan6Z3i4

Probably A just because I can emulate everything except current generation consoles on my PC. All my favorite current gen titles are on PC anyways. Plus some extra RAM and a bigger HD couldn't hurt

I make wallpapers like this all the time. I love them. I made the whole Level 1 map from ZAMN and the full Super Metroid map as wallpapers. D: Went to pick up that CT zeal wallpaper and bandwidth has been exceeded on the site. >.<

Tensei-San wins the thread. Srsly.

What old game would you most like to see revived?
Cerrax replied to Soul Splint's topic in General Discussion
OMG you are my favorite. UN Squadron FTW Actually I don't think UN Squadron would be fit for a remake. Its just a simple shmup. Still I have much love for old Squadski. Personally, I'd like to see Surround (also known as Tron Light Cycles) to be redone with the option to play in classic top-down mode or in the cockpit. and Driver (the original one on PS1). It was so simple and so good. The sequels all suck (ESPECIALLY Parallel Lines and Driver '76 because they removed the Film Editor, my favorite feature) The option to get out of the car just kills the whole game. And the tweaks to the phyiscs just make the game annoying. Give me a new Driver with the same physics and some sick graphics. -
So far the only games I'm looking forward to in 2009 are Ghostbusters and the Pittsburgh expansion of Fallout 3. 2008 and 2007 were both so damn good, it'll be hard for 2009 to top them.

I usually make my own via Photoshop/Kinkos.
