For all we know, he's not in Brawl either
-
I think the problem here is that Nintendo is cramming a lot of stuff into Brawl, but its not terribly good or better than previous attempts. I think the general stand for everyone (at least here) is: "Don't do something unless you're going to do it right". Nintendo sucks at online, but they wanted to give Brawl online play. So they half-assed it and did a mediocre job at online play. It disappointing when a company who clearly recognizes the popularity and high respect a game like SSB has, but neglects to put their best foot forward in all aspects of the game. Another reason I think people are pointing out Halo 3, is that Bungie and Nintendo both have almost no experience with making replays, but the difference is that Bungie put in the time and effort to learn how to make an excellent replay viewer, while Nintendo stuck with an old, outdated "Only 3 Minutes" scheme. Compare Halo 2 to Halo 3. Then compare Melee to Brawl. The amount of innovation that went into Halo 3 versus Brawl is (as far as we know at this point) is much more. Halo 3 -completely new play mechanic (forge) -deeper game customization -full-fledged replay viewer with screen capture built-in -new control scheme -deeper appearance customization- -more weapons and vehicles -better graphics and sound Brawl -slightly tweaked play mechanics -new single-player mode -deeper game customization -simple 3 minute replay viewer -3 new control schemes -new items and characters -slightly higher graphics -limited online play

Cerrax replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
Done. Kinda strange that I've never thought about my habits as a gamer until I took this survey. Interesting.... -

He still runs slow as hell. He couldn't catch Sonic at all. He probably looks faster than he really is. I thought the same thing when Melee came out. But it just turns out EVERYBODY was faster, so Link still turned out to be slow. Even so, he'll still be my first pick The slow-mo when the match ends is awesome. Very Soul Calibur-ish. Overall look is polished and nice. It actually seems a bit slower than Melee (at least Samus felt that way. Maybe they made her slower so that Zero SuitSamus can be faster). Stages are meh. I'm hoping the stages become more interactive/destructable like Pit's stage and Shadow Moses. Yoshi's and Fox's seem pretty lame since all they do is have moving backgrounds. Whoopty doo. So did Brinstar Depths in Melee. New stage concepts plz.

I got my baby back. Now if only I wasn't working so much... :/ Anyway, I'll tweak my song and send it soon.
-
Hey guys, got some bad news. My computer has died, so the little tweaks you wanted for the song aren't going to happen for a long while. I have to wait for them to get a new logic board and install it. I'm using a computer at my mom's house right now, so I won't be able to check the forums or respond to announcements and such very quickly. Oh and definitely don't email me, because I can only reach my mail from my computer (which is currently dead).

Star Fox 'We Are Starfox' (Corneria rock w/ lyrics)
Cerrax replied to Cerrax's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Hey guys, I know I haven't gotten in here recently to comment on what's been done so far. Got some bad news. My computers has died, so until I get a logic board, I won't be able to frequent here as much as I'd like to. I'm using a computer at my mnom's house right now, so I will not be available very much and I won't be able to send you any pieces of the song (like WAV. files and such. But when I get the comjputer back, everything should be back in full swing. Thanks for all the hard work you've put in so far. I'll try to listen to the new version sometime soon. -
I put my resub into the final critiques. Enjoy.

Corneria Spaceport (Hypothetical Starfox cutscene)
Cerrax replied to Nutritious's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Where'd you get the SNES Starfox sounds from? I would love to use them in the Starfox mix I'm working on. -
Star Fox 'We Are Starfox' (Corneria rock w/ lyrics)
Cerrax replied to Cerrax's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Wow, I didn't know anybody knew about Corporate Avenger! I love their stuff! SnappleMan: Considering the song is made up of guitar and a few synths, yes it IS all fake. But I am sending a file to some inetrested fellows so that real guitars can be placed into the mix. Believe me when I say I spent many hours trying to incorporate the whole song, but I left out those parts because they just didn't fit in at all with the song. If you notice Wingless' "Godspeed" mix, he doesn't use those parts either, because they just don't work well outside of their original context. As for the vocals, I have said it before in this thread. It is merely opinion whether the lyrics are good or not. Also, I didn't fix the timing on the current version, so it sin't really matched up to the music yet. -

A Audio program that supports "Music Writing"

Its true that Logic does notation, but its so counter-intuative that its really not worth it. Maybe I've just been using piano roll too long... -
Star Fox 'We Are Starfox' (Corneria rock w/ lyrics)
Cerrax replied to Cerrax's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Sounds like we have a collab! OA, I would like very much to have you play the guitar for this song. Especially since we have already been discussing working together outside of VG remixes. I will send you a PM with some files and what not. In the mean time, I will practice and re-record the lyrics. -
Star Fox 'We Are Starfox' (Corneria rock w/ lyrics)
Cerrax replied to Cerrax's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Hey man if you can't come right out and say "Yes this is a song about a video game", then maybe I'm on the wrong website. I thought this was a VG music site Cheesey-ness aside, I tried really hard to get the vocals to sound good. The only problem is I haven't fixed the timing yet. That's probably what makes thevocals sound "off" a bit, and it's easy enough to fix. I also wanted to get some of the sound effects from the game, but I have no way of doing it. It would be cool to have real guitars in this song, but I really like the synthy sound of the guitars I have. Other than the obvious fake guitars and cheesey lyrics, anything else that I shoudl really be looking for that's wrong? -
Star Fox 'We Are Starfox' (Corneria rock w/ lyrics)
Cerrax posted a topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
So I've always had an idea that Corneria's theme should be a lot harder and rock-esque than it is in the game. So I took a shot at it. http://www.cerrax.com/Starfox%20We%20Are%20Starfox%20OC%20ReMix.mp3 I'm no singer, so the vocals are pretty bad, but I wanted to see if I could pull it off. LYRICS: The sun to my back As thetowers burn before me Hands reaching out Shake me to pieces again Light I've woken from this dream A sound Red alert calling my name Chorus All those years without a father Builds a temple for my fire They have come to take our land But they will find they've crossed the wrong man Go now, Starfox Team Racing through the heavens at the speed of light Go now, Starfox Team If we can end this war, let's do it tonight /Chorus The horizon glows with defeated foes We're going down the hard path Liberation flies upon our side Never shall we let them down The Wolves are feeding, let's make them full Make them pay for sure Target lock, the ticking clock My soul has just come a flame -
The biggest problem is that video game music is (usually) not written for piano, so even if you combine all the tracks in the midi together, you probably wouldn't be able to play it. If you have experience with any sort of midi sequencer, try to arrange the tracks into a more playable fashion. There are plenty of free midi sequencers out there that allow you to combine tracks and edit the notes. If you notice The Video Game Pianst's songs sound a lot like the original, but he has removed certain harmony parts and even changed some into chords so that he can actually play the song. Second, learning how to read sheet music is something that any performing musician needs to know how to do. So if you want to play piano, you should learn how to read sheet music. Third, practice like crazy if you want them to sound good. This seems obvious, but you can't stress enough that performing any piece of music is not easy.

Awesome. I was not aware there was ROM tools for Mac. Its strange I didn't see this before, since Zophar's is one of the first places I checked. I already have the ROM cuz my computer leads a second life as an SNES Thanks djp! EDIT: The ROM tools don't seem to be working. Please remember I'm on a Mac and I'm having trouble finding any ROM Tools for OS X. Is there anyone who could rip these sound effects for me?
-
Anybody know where I can find some good rips of sound effects from SNES Starfox? I'm especially interested in the garbled nonsense that is passed for talking Also some spaceship sounds and explosions. I'd like them to be authentic Starfox sounds.

So I guess you could say I kind of want to form a band. I'm not sure how to put this so here goes. I'm looking to work with one or more remixer(s) and form an electronic music group. This is not to work on VG remixes. This is for creating completely original songs as a group. Preferred Genres Epic Trance Industrial Darkwave Futurepop Chiptune Contemporary Orchestral (like VG/Movie soundtrack type stuff) My Influences Rob Dougan Lasgo VNV Nation The Cruxshadows Zeromancer Harry Gregson-Williams Assemblage 23 Trevor Rabin Countless video game OSTs Preferred Equipment Macintosh computer Logic or GarageBand When I say "Preferred" I mean that it is not completely necessary, but it makes working together a lot easier. If you read these lists and like what you see, then we should work together and make some awesome music.

Also, Samus will take a certain poses before she wall jumps. Remember how she looks when she is clinging to a wall with the grapple beam? She will change to that frame when a wall jump is possible. She is technically clinging to the wall and ready to spring off of it. If you can catch it, that is the prime time to push the other direction on the d-pad and jump.

Hmmm, that could mean wavedashing is gone, since I don't recall the Havok engine having problems with frictionless surfaces. EDIT: Maybe not. It may just use Havok FX or Havok Animation and not the actual physics engine. The list on that website says that the titles use some of the Havok products, not all of them.

QF fucking T Also, Zero's theme from the Mega Man X series. I mean they even use it as the title song in X5. Whenever I hear those first notes, I know what it is. I was going to say Mute City from the F-Zero series, but actually I believe Big Blue is more iconic, seeing as how there are many more versions of Big Blue in the games than Mute City.

Just played the demo. SICK. When I actually have money, this will be in my possession. There's too many good games coming out this year. I wont have enough to get all of them

For clarification, since some people are confused about subcon/subspace:
