  1. Random Question: Can you waveshine with Fox? I've recently been trying it out and...well I suck at it. It's just something I'm doing to keep me busy because there's no one to play around me. But anyway, if anyone has any pointers feel free to educate this newblet.
  2. <3 that video. "Supa wavedash; that's mindgames right there son!" "Les' goooooo!!!" Oh, and I borrowed smash again from another friend (because I'm to cheap to fork over $20 for my own copy. Darn you gamestop...), so I should be getting back into smashing soon.
  3. Man, I really wish I could make it this year. I mean, I don't even live that far away! Unfortunately I have exams the Monday after the thing ends, so I need to stay here. Tell Brendan I said hi.... and that Linux is for NEWBS!
  4. Haha, yeah Melee does ruin controllers. I used to make fun of my friend years ago b/c all of his controllers were messed up, but of course when I borrowed his Melee disc and started playing often, My controllers started messing up too. On a less humorus note, my friend finally laid down the law and made me give him back his copy of SSBM. Had he taken it back when I offered it to him and was about to buy my own copy, things would have been fine, but he didn't and I don't have the time nor money to go buy Melee right now, so that'll have to wait.
  5. So, just a general question, but does anyone know the different effects of a light (large) shield as opposed to the darker, more dense (small) one? If that was unclear I'll try to explain it better. Basically, is there any benifit for lightly depressing the L/R button or using z-sheild as opposed to jamming the L/R button?
  6. Maybe you have to play for 200 hours as well? I just unlocked the random stage select edit option a few weeks ago myself, and I think I had just been playing multiplayer for a really long time.
  7. I know what you mean man, one of the first things I DL on Virtual Console is SSB64. So I'm not alone! I love the 64 verson. Always have preferred it over Melee(my friends think I'm crazy). Attacks in SSB seemed to do more damage and hace farther knockback than in Melee. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing, it's just something I've noticed.
  8. Wow, you use Audacity, too? How do you keep the audio quality so crisp on your recordings? Mine always sound crappy.
  9. The main use I saw for dash dancing would be to use it and pivot into an instant smash attack. I imagine, once someone gets that down solidly, they could dash dance like the freaking tazmanian devil, but be instantly able to launch a smash, foward tilt, or aerial right from it. That would allow you to pressure people like no tomorrow. But then again, I also imagine a Marth who perfectly shffls across Final Destination would be like a whirldwind of destruction, knocking you off the stage without any hope of retaliation.
  10. So, wavedashing is all fun and good (no, seriously, it is), but what do you guys who use advanced techniques in your playstyle think about dash-dancing? I first was exposed to it when I found out about wavedashing and everything else. That is, at my first gaming convention/ tournament. I was of course beaten soundly in some friendlies by the tournament players because they knew something I didn't. I've heard that dd-ing can be even more versatile than wavedashing, and I believe it, but it's extremely difficult to use as I play. And it's not just the dd-ing that's difficult, but springning an attack from it. I try to be unpredictable by crouch cancelling my dash and using pivoting, but I can't do it quickly/efficiently enough to incorporate it into my play. Anyone else have trouble with it or effectively play without it?
  11. I'm quite familiar with the source material here, seeing as ToP is one of my favorite games for any system. That makes this mix pretty important to me. Love the percusion work here. It really adds to the ethnic vibe I get from this piece. I can still feel the meloncholoy melody of the original through the strong, pulsating rhythm. The overall production is solid. I can't find anything to complain about instrumentation wise. I originally thought everything was a little too loud, but then I realized I had my headphones on...... I'm glad I got to hear this sneak preview of the upcoming project. This allays any fear or doubt I had about this thing getting completed.
  12. Only got a chance to look at your 1st and last vids. First of all, excellent quality on the visuals. I don't know what kind of camera/ video encoder you have, but it looks nice! It was interesting watching your play style. Not as frantic as a lot of Falco's, but you seem to have most of the technical quirks down pat. I always love to see the down spike- reflector action going on. I do that a lot myself when I'm falco.
  13. My main character is Marth, (who I no longer feel bad about using b/c he's no longer top teir! Yeah disjointed hitboxes!) but I also am competent with Fox/Falco. I love to play casually with Samus, Luigi, Peach, C.F, and Mewtwo. I'm interested in trying out that Ness glitch you mentioned, TheCatPhysician. Sounds like fun. Anyone any good at Samus' super wavedash? I've only accomplished it twice (not that I try it that often)
  14. This is quite a bit funnier if you know who is being impersonated.
  15. Oh crap, GZC, why are we playing this game? We aren't having fun! But seriously, you play casually, we play competitively. We both have fun. Get over it. Wavedashing with Luigi FTW! Seriously, do it to your friend who's "too cool for advanced techniques"/ doesn't know wavedashing exists". Funny stuff. I'll admit, I haven't played Melee in a while now, but I remember when I started trying to learn advanced techniques with characters it really opened up a whole new depth to the game. Sure just playing the game normally is good and fun, but so is being able to do things that at first seemed impossible. Oh, and the Ice Climbers are badasses. Especially in a competent human's hands
  16. Had to give Melee some love in this thread. P.S. This game ruins controllers. Hopefully Brawl won't require so much.....smashing.
  17. Really enjoy this track. Actually, it's my favorite out of the entire project. Just goes to show you what great stuff the combined efforts of two great remixers can accomplish. Look foward more stuff from you two. Edit: I have to say, some of the titles on the songs from this project made me lol. Who came up with that stuff? Tokyo Slapdown!!!
  18. QFE Leif has that pimped out Lord suit, too.
  19. Welcome to OCR! I hope you enjoy your time here and maybe learn something new about the remixing community! Oh, and be careful what you click in Unmod. Just a warning.
  20. I FINALLY had a chance to sit down and listen to the new show in its entirety, and it's just as awesome as I imagined it would be. All the interviews were really informative! I was really suprised what some of those people had to say about videogame music. Personally, the highlight for me was when the composers more or less all said "OMG VG remixes are awesome/inspirational!" as opposed to "Stop putting drum loops over my songs you #$%$!"
  21. Was it a MAME style arcade machine? I think I've seen something like that available online. That would be very appropriate considering emulation is a big part of what this whole site is about.
  22. Sounds like tommorow's show is going to be one to remember. I can't wait!
  23. This the shit. Plain and simple. You all did an excellent job re-interpreting the songs. I like the gritty street feel in "Rock the Asphalt" and such. I can only hope you'll make a Sonic colab next.
  24. VGDJ: Kills Emo Podcasts Dead. Darn straight! + Cyan_ide sounds like he's in the middle of a thunderstorm
  25. I was tottaly about to vote for you in the remix compo.... I just, well I didn't. Well, anyway this song is still great. I love the intro into :39 because it's so mysterious. You just can't tell where it's taking you until you're there, I suppose. The main theme or motif that starts around :42 is interesting too, and I guess you just changed keys at 01:10 and kept the rhythm about the same. I liked that as well. I didn't like all the distortion you put on things about 3/4's through the piece though. It seemed like a little too much, but that's about my only gripe. I mean, the fact that you made something this awesome on fruity loops is reason alone to by happy.
